I'm not sure hiking boots are so great in this weather. Their profile is more suitable to walking on the rocks in dry or wet conditions so they are rather hard. You need sturdy but softer rubber soles for snow. I have snow boots myself and they are different from hiking boots and much safer to walk on the snow.

Went for a walk around the Old Bawn area in Tallaght, roads and footpaths are very icy. Not much fresh snow in the last 3 or 4 hours.
