It's RTE, nothing outside Dublin exists to them. If this only hit Cork this morning, you'd be lucky to get a 2 minute piece on RTE about it!

I reckon the snow melt that is happening in places despite the sub zero temperatures is the strong solar effect as we are only hours away from March. If this was a few weeks ago there probably would be no thaw anywhere.

There will be more snow later today and overnight but it's unlikely to be as intense as last night.

Thaw here on some surfaces. Shaded areas will be fine but we'll lose the snow from main roads and their pavements before nightfall. At which point everything will freeze and the roads will become lethal.

The sun this time of year is a pain for this. Even such low temperature air mass can't prevent it.

Looking at some serious nimbostratus clouds coming straight towards us now from the Atlantic. We might be adding a few inches to this snow fall.

So are they wrapping in with the easterly wind, if they're coming westwards they have the offshore wind's to deal with.

Hardly a hint of sunshine here yet still a bit of melt going on, seems to be from underneath rather than on the surface so ground temps probably to blame

Wicklow Town and Arklow have missed out badly. Possibly Gorey too. Blue skies now and no sign of any cloud. We had almost nothing, green grass & black roads & what was there has disappeared. Living 200m from the Irish Sea you'd expect to get some streamer action. I don't get it? Is it some kind of shadow from Wales or Snowdonia or something?

Surely if the temp is below 0 the snow can't actually melt though? If melting is taking place then that means the temp is above 0, no?

Woke up to a nice covering but it's melting rapidly, even though it's only -2. A few attempts at a fresh snow fall but very light and not lasting long. Tipp/kilkenny border.

Rapid thaw in bray. Anywhere in sunshine is nearly gone. Hopefully we get more tonight and over the next few days

Thought some were underestimating the strenghth of the sun, snow cover will be significantly reduced later today I think, outside of shaded areas. If only this had happened a month earlier.
