Little warning for anyone thinking of signing up....

I've been with them two months on the €15 p.m package. Unlimited national calls and texts + 15gb data. Last month despite my phone telling me I had a few gigs of data remaining before the I was due to pay my monthly renewal I got a message stating I had insufficient credit and was not allowed to use my remaining mobile data (exactly 5gb).

Puzzled but I topped up and everything was fine again.

Last night I got the same message (and had another 5gb remaining) so I rang them this morning.

Despite being advertised as 15gb of data (and still is as of today) you really only get 10gb.

Pretty shoddy really. Person on the phone said Lyca must have forgot to update its website! At least I'm not tied to a contract so I didn't bother having an argument, I'll just go elsewhere.

was thinking of leaving too but a bit unsure who to go to. Id are attractive because of the 4G and for the same €15 per month but I've heard mixed reports on them..

Really? Makes it all the more annoying then.

For sure. Only checked my daughters data balance the other day and it was under 4gb. Are you sure you are on the Ireland Plus bundle as just topping up with €15 gives 10GB

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38 mdol

Yep. Even got the texts and emails welcoming me to Lyca which specifically mentioned 15gb of data.

As I said though, not tied to a contract so I'll go somewhere else easy enough.

mdol, type *137# on your mobile to check that you are actually on the Ireland Plus bundle.

    I suspect that you aren't.

When you top-up by €15 you get 10GB of data, but you ARE NOT on the Ireland Plus bundle, you need to then actually buy the Ireland Plus bundle out of your €15 credit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38 mdol

Ahh, now I get it. Top up online, THEN purchase the bundle. You'd think that would be done automatically tbh. Anyway thanks a million for that, shame Lyca's own employees couldn't tell me this morning!

In the website you can also set it up to auto-buy the Ireland Plus bundle every month, saves the hassle.

    Hi All
Just wondering if there any advantages with Lyca Mobile over tesco ? Im on the 15€ Pm pay as you go from Tesco

Unlimited calls and all texts 15GB of data on Lycamobile.
    https://www.lycamobile.ie/en/bundle

10GB of data, unlimited calls and Tesco to Tesco texts.
    https://www.tescomobile.ie/prepay-plans.aspx

Also there is a way i think of topping up with Lycamobile by €15 every two months.
If you don't text, you keep your €15 credit for next month.
Whatsapp or other messenger and normal calls. Working out at €7.50 per month.

    Yep.
Lyca have various bundles that you can use your excess money on. Whereas with TM, you will be stacking up €s.
    As earlier stated, with Lyca:
    Month1 - Topup by €15, get free calls, 10gb, keep the €15
Month2 - Use the €15 to buy a bundle to get free calls, 15gb.
    Net cost is €7.50pm

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,670 ✭✭✭✭zell12

    Alternatively,
    Month1 - Topup by €20, get free calls, 15gb, keep the €20
Month2 - Use the €15 to buy bundle to get free calls, 15gb, keep €5
    Net cost is €10pm

    good to know

I'm on Ireland plus bundle but it's set to auto renew. How do I cancel the auto renew so that I can do the above?

Can't find anywhere to do it on the website. Surely I'm missing something.

    Does that mean you get (10gb + 15gb) 25gb ?

    no - just 15GB

    Then it's a bit of a waste top-up by €15 and then buying a €15 bundle

the only time you need to get the ireland plus bundle outside the system quoted in post 1426 (month 1, month 2 etc. well it's actually 30 days not a month afaik) is if you need roaming abroad. so if you going to be going on holiday in europe etc for a week for example you'd buy the ireland plus bundle even if you had time left on the service provided by the act of topping up by 15 euro to get roaming calls and data as afaik the 15 euro top up doesn't provide this.
also the 15 euro top up service (month 1) don't give you free texts so be mindful of that.

I agree, I do what you describe above. Month 1 top-up by €15, month 2 use the credit to buy Ireland Plus for the second month. Works out €7.50 per month, very nice. But not everyone has the patience to do this. You need to set up calendar reminders, etc.

    How to stop Autorenewal?

It doesn't seem to be on the website, and searching brings up the UK codes *190#

When i try that code it says 'you have not subscribed to this service' but i know autorenewal is on.

It's under your bundle details on the Account dashboard

I asked this a while back. I can't find this option to stop auto renewal either

On the account login page click "Click Here to View Bundle Details", then the green "View Details" button

Right so I cancelled the auto renew and the bundle expired at midnight

Just topped up by €15 and now have 10G Data + minutes etc

However reading the following would leave me thinking that the €15 can't be subsequently used to purchase a bundle
Customer will receive FREE National Data and FREE Unlimited National minutes in Ireland with every 15€ or more top-up. The free minutes and data are valid for 30 days from the top-up. After free minutes and data expired, you will be charged at standard rates. You must have minimum balance of 1ct to enjoy the offer. The free credit cannot be used to purchase additional Lycamobile products (i.e. bundles, roaming Services) and the credit cannot be transferred. The free credit cannot be used to call Premium Service numbers. Any call or data charges will be deducted first from the free allowances. Free Call National Minutes cannot be used to call Premium Service numbers or roaming services. To check your remaining data allowance dial: *147#. Lycamobile reserves the right to replace or amend the offer or these Terms & Conditions or to withdraw the offer at any time on reasonable notice.

    It can.
Free credit is bonus credit, not the actual money credit. Eg 15 top up you might get 1.50 bonus free credit. That's what the exclusions apply to.

ah ok - good to know. Thanks.

Presume I have to purchase that bundle within the 30 days from now or the €15 will expire right? Or is there no expiry on the credit?

SMS come out of the €15 correct?

The credit doesn't expire but the free data/calls does so any credit remaining will be used up.Just set a reminder for the day before expiration.
Yes SMS come out of your credit.

The free credit was usually 10% of what ever amount you topped up by. I notice that it isn't advertised anymore on the https://www.lycamobile.ie/en/top-up-offers
It was handy for SMS, now looks like SMS come out of our real credit

    That's a long time ago.
I don't remember getting that in 2016 for example.
    Only 'switch to Lyca' credit
