    I really don't understand how you can't see how descriptions of suspects are useful. People have been giving out descriptions of perps since forever. Height, build and hair are useful and so is skin colour. It's really simple.

    Have you read the thread title?

    OP jumped to the assumption that because these guys are black they were non nationals. That is a racial issue. Very much so.

    I've no problem with them being described as black btw. That's a fact. I do have a problem with people assuming they weren't Irish.

    Yes, I agree.

    My point is that simply describing a bunch of scroates in a newspaper as “Black” isn’t helpful. It doesn’t exactly narrow down the suspects and just gives fuel to the racists.

    The article linked mentions that the latest culprits were black teenagers and suddenly there’s all sorts of discussions about immigration, ghettos, anti social families etc. to the bigots, this type of story is music to their ears.

    That’s why newspapers tend not to describe a gang of black lads up to no good as a group of...black lads up to no good. It doesn’t help anyone but the racists.

    What your "mate" calls them is neither here nor there. The fact is that the article makes absolutely no reference to their nationality, yet your thread title states they are "non nationals".

    There weren't too many taxi jackings recorded during the famine or 1916 either
    What has that got to do with anything?
    We don't know the nationality of the taxi drivers or the attackers

    We are looking for a bunch of teenagers. There is a bunch of Spanish exchange students over there - ehhmm no not them. How can you tell. Ehhmm it's not them.

    Just because someone with another skin colour/tone commits a crime doesn't mean it can't be used as a description in relation to that.

    The world is going to fcuk if it's now going to be un PC to describe a person by a definite characteristic.

    Black, White or Asian will be immediately obvious to all of us if we got a quick glimpse of someone but God forbid we should mention it.

    They are though. Just a superficial layer of colour over a body that works pretty much the same in every car.

    What is the problem here? Is that taxi drivers have been beaten and robbed? Or is that some teenagers that aren't white did it? Would we be even discussing it here if they were white, Irish kids?
