Interesting. I wondered if Spacey was one of those people who has enough credit in the bank and is well liked enough that this controversy will die down and he'll essentially be forgiven by his industry.

What he did was quite atrocious and the contrived, calculated press release doesn't help.

It really does make you wonder how deep this all runs and what Hollywood big names haven't some serious skeletons in their closet. If you told me any big star from the 80s or 90s had form for this stuff, I'd find it quite plausible at this point.

Seems we could probably get a pretty decent list by sitting through Seth McFarlane's stuff.

Which begs the question, how many people are completely aware of sexual crimes committed by their peers and don't want to be the ones that rocks the boat?

Yeah, it took Hannibal Buress to "go after" Bill Cosby for it to really start kicking off. And he's really a guy who is just famous for not caring at all about what people think so it does make sense it was him.

Hopefully now it'll be far more common.

Maybe not House of Cards. I heard it’s getting cancelled.

Rosie O'Donnell has now come out and said "we all knew about u" in a Tweet to Spacey. Huge amount of turning a blind eye happening in Hollywood to sexual abuse. People appear to just shrug their shoulders and accept that it's how things are.

If you are turning a blind eye you're an enabler.
It really does show the hypocrisy of people in Hollywood etc.

I don't disagree but, to play devil's advocate, I would imagine most of the movie industry are enablers then including the very top people (perhaps especially the top people). Seth MacFarlane made jokes about it publicly. Courtney Love referenced Weinstein on camera in interviews. Tarantino said he was heartbroken by the Weinstein situation before admitting he knew what was going on. The industry is rotten to its core.

In other news Buer: NFL fantasy... :(

Is that still happening? How did I do this week?!

Yeah, but this is really just human nature. This is exactly how it happens in many different walks of life when this sort of behaviour becomes so entrenched in the establishment. Look at the British parliament or catholic church. Or Wall Street. And its not even only old industries which are affected by it, look at Silicon Valley.

I don't think the movie industry itself is rotten, I think power corrupts and industries where people wield a lot of societal power/influence tend to engender extremely sexually aggressive atmospheres for the same reason that they also become associated with other dangerous behaviours (drug usage and money laundering also very common in those fields).

I actually think the British poet/rapper Scroobius Pip made a very very good point in his song "The Struggle" which is a song about Johnny Depp admitting to being a serial killer, but is really an attempt to explain this kind of behaviour from people in power:

You ****ers never saw it coming, who'd of thunk it or thought it,
It'd be ignored like the ramblings of a drunk if you'd report it,
My performances are greeted with plaudits and laughter,
If you caught me red handed, you'd probably think it's stigmata,
Success sucks less than standard existence,
But when you exceed the standard dreams, what becomes of our ambitions?
The average man can dream dreams of a path he's never walked,
But when that path's your day to day your dreams become warped.

People underestimate the value of dreaming,
That which you aspire to provides a roof, a ceiling,
In particular the dreams that there's no way of achieving,
Like, I wanna' be Brad Pitt or something equally fleeting,
I can't aspire to such things the deeper I must delve,
And then the the only guide I have to life becomes myself,
    This was always gonna' happen,
In fact I'll be surprised if I'm the first,
This kind of success and power is bound to bring out the worst,
With success come power and great success has been given me,
And with great power, comes great ****ability,
I'm a good husband though, I've never cheated on my wife,
Despite opportunities I live a monogamous life,
My addictions manifest, in a darker form,
If the heart is a house then I have a blood stained lawn,
My public portraits immaculate but there's blood on the easel,
My name is Johnny Depp and I kill people.

I don't think we're anywhere even close to moving past this sort of stuff though, I'd see it as far too common an occurrence to think this type of stuff isn't likely in any powerful industry.

Is there more than one incident with Spacey?

His one incident was pretty ****ing bad given the kids age, should be enough to derail him, but it probably won't end him. I mean. Roman Polanski like.

Supposedly there are many, many incidents.

The rumour has long been that he regularly uses his position to demand/request certain things of new actors. Think Team America when Gary is first approached by Spottswoode in the limo.....

    "No"

    "Then you haven't seen everything"

That did cross my mind yesterday. Polanski has outstanding charges against him for raping a minor yet Hollywood gave him the Best Director Award and that wasn't in some distant era. The Academy is made up of over 6,000 film industry professionals....they clearly weren't too bothered about his sexual past.

Kind of prophetically ironic that Spacey's most recent hit show is called 'House of Cards' and it's just come down.

I find it ironic that a country that throughout history has had a history of conquering by force and dictatorships is charging someone with sedition...from an area that they assimilated....it's going to get very interesting,

Try from an area that voted overwhelmingly in favour of the current Spanish constitution instead.
