Really? Then why do rally cars powerslide so much? For fun is it?

Must be, because they don't on tarmac, if they are then they're loosing speed and that's not the optimum.

I would rate people who like to use racing moves on public roads as more blameworthy than a drunk driver. At least the drunk driver has the excuse of being drunk, a sober minded idiot has no excuses.

Didn't ya? Perhaps not but surely could be understood that way, and for the record, being drunk is never an excuse for drink driving

    .

Of course it is. It just depends what Motorsport you're referring to. On a tarmac circuit it's a waste of time and rubber. But if you're racing on a lower grip surface like gravel, snow, ice or off road then sideways is the quickest way around a bend. Look at rallying or rallycross!!!!!!!

We're talking about road work here, if they were talking about off road there wouldn't be a problem.

I've tried rally rallycross and would recommend it thoroughly to anyone who wants to slide.

    A donut isn't a racing move.

Does snow not fall on public roads?

Not enough for a powerslide to ever be a racing move in Ireland, we get muck on them too but as before, not enough....

Just like a well executed powerslide :) Best to do them while drunk though, at least it will be excusable then

A doughnut is a 360 powerslide, I know of no other way of performing one.

You said racing, not road works. It is a racing move!! Even though technique is probably a better word for it.

Then your doing it completely wrong, and your misconception about what a donut is might have some bearing on your overall opinion on the dangers or lack thereof in doing them.

You begin a donut from a standstill unlike a power slide/ drift.

Drive the two back wheels of a front wheel drive car onto two steel plates. Pull up the handbrake. Turn the steering wheel all the way to the left or right and drive. This is not a power slide as it's not the power of the car causing the slide! But its still a donut!!

This only works on flat tarmac.

I haven't done one in a very long time but you can start from an standstill or move into one, a doughnut is the resulting black circle on the tarmac both are perfectly acceptable. There's little danger in performing a doughnut if you're careful about where you choose to do so, as said previously.

This thread has really really grown legs. Somebody actually had a pretty decent summary of it a while back.

I hope the mods don't see this as backseat modding or anything but Marcus001 you really need to take a look at yourself, you've twice commented about hopeing someone crashes into a wall/ dies in there car on this thread simply because you disagree with them. That is absolutely vile no matter what way you look at things. You've also added pretty much zero to the actual debate other than arguing semantics about who said what and chiming in with excitable rhetoric here and there, you have repeated a baseless opinion on a topic you clearly know very little about and when challenged by someone knowledgable on the subject you told him you hope he crashed into a wall!!

You're either a troll or a particularly unpleasant person.

That's a new one on me but isn't having to use foreign objects like steel plates a complete cheat? Off topic soz.

Agreed, but that's a different thing to a powerslide, even when your starting from a roll you'll load up the clutch to kick the back of the car out, again totally different from a powerslide, I think it's very important to differentiate between lads doing rings as in the OP and lads out drifting on the roads.

Context, if you're into racing or trying to race then powersliding on tarmac is counter-productive.

Doing donuts is worse than drink driving :pac: Welcome to the thread, Mr Healy Rae

It's a well known fact that you fall asleep after a big feed of donuts, selling bags of 6 for €3 should be illegal , bring in minimum pricing for them

What are you going to do when all you have is a 1.2 Corsa and you want to go sideways???? 😀

There is a technique of driving rear wheel drive rally cars know as the "Scandi flick", where power sliding is used to set a car up on approach to a bend or junction, google it for an explanation.

You can probably just about do reverse donuts on grass with a 1.2 corsa :D

Outside of rallying yes I agree completely with you.

Many have missed one important thing. As stupid as doing donuts on a public road is,the crashes that kill or injure lads who like a bit of fun on the roads tend to happen before or after they've burnt a bit of rubber. If they overestimate their skill as a driver cos they can do a bit of diffing then they see every bend as a challenge to see how fast they can take it and every straight as a drag strip. Too many young lads killed or injured on the roads especially late at night "when it's safer and not as busy".

I said I hope he hits a wall before hitting someone else. I never said I wanted him to die, in fact I said I didn't want him to get hurt. I think I'm a far more pleasant person that the person who endangers other road users. As for playing semantics? The same fella just kept trying to catch me out with the "so you actually meant this???" bull**** you usually get on boards. I see other people playing semantics above, I don't see you calling them out.

Very true, might be a better idea for them to find/be given somewhere to go and enjoy themselves without bothering/threatening anyone else.

It's not a save, I used the correct words when I said it. If I had meant to include donuts I'd have said something else.

But you need to understand the buzz that jung laads get from using the "full a the rack" . They don't care about keeping the race in its place.

I do, there'll always be an idiot but that's what the law or law of Darwin is for, if there's a safe spot where they'll not get hassled the majority will use it.

Sorry, for thinking you would be talking about donuts, you know - in a thread about donuts.
