I'd imagine that it's a question of health and longevity

Stats wise the older you are the more likely you are to get ill and die

As you get older the age gap may become more obvious and more of a potential problem ....

I know a man who's wife died recently, the age gap was just 3 years but he said to me that those three years became obvious as she slipped into ill health in her 70s. That's his personal opinion and it struck a chord with me. Equally he could have got ill earlier than her but the stats / paddy power would side with he higher age

    I actually hate the sea.
Can we just close the curtains and drink coffee instead?
My age limit is 31 on tinder but i make exceptional circumstances.

So... this lad got all the Likes and oodles of Love. Twas all very Liberal and all very "hey man, live and let live"....

    But this guy....

.... is getting an awful going over....

    What's that all 'bout...??
In the first example she was 23, past university, working, her own woman and all that. I doubt he's pulling in the funds of a "hedge fund manager" either, nor directing her life to fit his with the sniff of the benevolent paternal going on. Nor parading the relationship across the forums every chance he gets*. Bit of a diff on those points alone.

On a personal note and full disclosure here I've met the two folks in the first example more than once in the past and very well matched they were too. The age gap part would have been pretty much the last thing that would have occurred to mention or notice TBH.

*though as I said previously that can be an American cultural thing in certain sections of that society, particularly among the climbing middle class set. I've a couple of American rellies and they're into that whole send a bullet pointed letter/FAQ out to the family on holidays outlining how everyone was doing so well in their family. Considered a tad crass among the rest of the family, but there within lays the cultural difference. The telegraphing of the trappings of success in the American Dream is a thing, not really found in Ireland. Having the high powered job and the house in the Hamptons and the older successful man with pretty/younger girlfriend/wife would be among the "trophies" to be broadcast and with little to no self consciousness or awareness to it.

You're 42 and your partner isn't legally old enough to purchase alcohol in your hometown. That's just hit me when reading back through the thread.

Well it's pretty feasible for a 22 year old to be with someone can't get served. It's pretty odd when a 42 year old can't bring his other half to a bar for a drink because she's not old enough yet.

Do you think the drinking age should be raised? Let it go.

A few years ago i mentioned in some thread here i was breaking the "half your age +7 rule"
Still breaking it with the same one so.... it can last.

Ah it's a great excuse for a celebration when you finally tick that made up box. Especially if you are both allowed a drink.

    1. Dear Wibbs and forum family
    2. Hard to believe it's five minutes since we last posted. Summer is fully upon us now and thus we cast our gaze towards the drizzle, occasional snowdrifts and fondly recall that Tuesday in June where it hit 23 degrees.
    3. It's been a busy year for me, to say nothing of permabear and the bitters (30 year old fems) who have been flat out - especially this week.

ugh I give up. What odd carry on.

I must say, I have noticed that in America and Canada (where I've been several times - have family in NYC and Toronto), it's a lot more "usual" to see couples with what we would consider a 'sizeable' age difference. I haven't much experience of the 'wealthy classes' so much but, in my experience, among the 'great unwashed', it seems to be quite common in the US and Canada for there to be 8/10/12 years age difference among couples.

Are we talking frozen pizza (bought in a 12 pack), dutch gold and amber leaf or something classier?
