That's the same one they sell here, the name is changed for obvious reasons... Its decent for the money, its about €15 here.

Would have it in preference to Gordons or any of the crap (Cork etc) any day.

Its just the label that's changed. Bottle is a knock off of the old export Gordons one I think? Like Lidl's is based on the old 'domestic' Gordons bottle.

Haven't seen the Old Hopkins in the green bottle for quite a while. Aldi seems to have replaced it with Corley's Gin. The bottle is quite similar to Cork Dry Gin. It's drinkable, but the other stuff was better.

I'm enjoying a glass of Blackwater No.5 with Fevertree light tonic and lemon peel. Very nice it is too.

What make of gin should I buy.

It will be for gin & tonic.

There is a lot of talk about Hendricks, there seems to a certain cache about it,that could be publicity. Some people have bought into it.

Also is there a better class of tonic thzn another?
Have to say I've been drinking a lot of gin this year and hendricks is hard to top

Anyone ever tried Greenalls Wild Berry Gin?

I wouldn't be a gin drinker, any idea what to have it with? Was thinking raspberries and mint. Saw that somewhere, can't remember where now though.

Would love & appreciate some suggestions :)

Was jsut trying ungava and thought it was really good.

Dislike hendricks personally. Might be the cucumber that was in it though, only had it once or twice.

There's a gin making course in drogheda which looks like fun. Obviously it's not a degree in chemistry but it looks a fun day out!

What justifies the expense of Gin? Like most bottles that aren't pure dirt seem to be retailing from 40eur upwards. I really don't get why its so expensive because its quite easy and quick to make. On the other hand Whisk(e)y requires years of maturing which obviously has a land/property cost to it as well as the cost of the casks not to mention what is lost as part of the angels share.

How does a bottle of gin cost the same as a 12yr old bottle of scotch?

More to do with the target market than costs of manufacture

Hype, what you can get away with, how much people will pay. Products price often have no correlation to with how much productions cost. it's essentially flavoured vodka right? Much better game to be in than whiskey for the reasons you said.

Since it is much lower barrier to entry I can see there being more competition soon.

The gin school at Listoke is really good. Just make sure you get the train and a short taxi from the station.

Abbot's Ale House, Devonshire street or Bradley's, North Main street have it now. Should be generally available any day now.

Who in west Cork is making the wild burrow gin for Lidl ? And is it any good ?

I bought Needle, the new Aldi gin, last week. I didn’t like it at all. I tried it with plain tonic and lemon and for the first time ever I didn’t finish my drink. It tasted almost medicinal or something, I’m not sure 🤔. I’ll try it with cranberry to see if it’s any better but I’ve a feeling I’ll be giving it away. My daughter bought the Barry’s Tea gin so I’m looking forward to trying that at the weekend.

Didn't like it with lemon, much better with lime!

Exactly, I really like Monkey 47 and thought it would be similar but it’s not. I hadn’t thought about what to put with the Barry’s. Maybe the beer revoluncould advise us as it’s one of his gins 😁

We recommend lemon as a garnish with the Barry's Tea gin.

I like the Needle gin. I've only tasted it straight, though.

West Cork distillery make the wild burrow gin.

I might try it neat but that’s not how I usually drink gin.
