I see a HUGE difference between companies sending out random bits to bloggers, and bloggers repeatedly working with companies in exchange for goods/services. The first, I see as freebies/PR post and I honestly don't consider them ads, although it does seem like nothing ever gets a bad review for fear that they will stop receiving things but I also see it as a great way for smaller Irish businesses to get their names out there with no agreement that they will get coverage (at least I dont think they do)

The latter I definitely think is an ad, and it's pretty easy to tell the difference. If a blogger mentions a company or business (pharmacy, hairdressers, nail salons, personal trainers) repeatedly across various platforms and over a prolonged period of time, it's pretty obvious they have some sort of agreement with them, probably getting free sessions/hair apps etc in exchange. It may not be ASAI regulations but in my opinon, they're ads and I have zero respect for you as a blogger if you don't declare as such.

Both Pippa and The Make up Fairy have been showing off their Her Clutterbox in the last week. I know this isn't an ad, but MUF has just said on snapchat that she was sent it for free, whereas Pippa made it seem as though she ordered it herself and was going on about how she went for the large in the end as it had more room bla bla and never mentioned once that they sent it to her.
Of course she may have bought it herself, and it could just be a coincidence- or it could be just another example of bloggers taking their viewers for fools and omitting details of how they got the product.

I'm actually raging with myself. I thought fair play Pippa went out and bought it herself, it must be good so. If she did get it for free, she really did the bare minimum showing it off. Just looked at the MUF there, not a huge fan but boy did she sell it for the company. She did a good job at showing it off, she had it out of the plastic and full to the brim with products.

I'm actually embarrassed at Pippas attempt at showing off her freebie after watching MUF. For a 279 euro product like she did nothing. I know technically she doesnt have to even show it if it was a freebie, but taking us for fools by pretending she paid for it annoys me so much.

I see that MUF is running a giveaway on her Instagram for bperfect tan... she has used #sp on the post which is good but she always maintains that she doesn't use fake tan or sun beds and gets annoyed when people don't believe that. She's just back from two sun holidays so her tan is clearly not from the bperfect yet you have everyone commenting on it saying oh my god this tan looks amazing etc... totally agree with what others have said on avoiding certain products because they are being rammed down our throats by every blogger and influencer

I'd Love to know why she brought the mac eyebrow gel when she loves the bperfect eyebrow gel so much! Maybe because it's an ad!? She just 'uses' it when she has to talk about it? I've don't care about bloggers being paid to show of stuff it is there job. Just be honest and actually do it with brands you actually like and use!!

The problem is the brands they use and like don't pay lol

Grace has been pushing BPerfect for a while too now, so they're obviously doing a big push with influencers/bloggers. Funny how they all "discover" these brilliant products at the same time:P

They truly think their followers are stupid (tbh going by some of the things I saw on Twitter re lip fillers changing your natural lip forever, maybe some are stupid) and that we don't notice how all of a sudden some new holy grail product appears, that will never been seen again after a week. Do their longterm fans not see this, genuinely, do they actually not? Or do they turn a blind eye coz their faves can do no wrong in their eyes? Bperfect will be the new Flormar, never mentioned again pretty soon.

They all seem to have dropped Benefit now that Mark has gone and possibly the freebies have dried up. BPerfect have an eyebrow kit

I love Retro Flame but she put up loads of snaps yesterday and today about her outfit for the races and only #ad the snaps at the very end. Not very transparent.

Same with her sister getting the nails done - they #ad last week when getting them done but no # for the new post. Also numerous posts on instragram from all the Fox ladies tagging the designer and no #, both Retro and the sister did one # only. I would have said she was very transparent with working in the US and stricter guidelines but doesn't appear to be the case as of late.

She actually said on snap a few months ago she wish companies would stop sending her tan because she doesn't wear it her tan is natural
All of a sudden she's promoting it that just makes me think nothing she says is genuine

The fact that she was so good in the US is what annoys me because it proves to me that she knows the game and knows exactly what she's at.
Comes back here then and takes us all for morons.

Also very disappointed with Retro have always been a big fan of hers and thought she was different to most bloggers that she was more professional and more legit. Saw all the talk about the races etc the hats, the bags, the outfits and am very surprised to see it was an ad after all the non #ad posts 🙄

They get away with it though, for every post questioning them, I see about 10 supporting them and saying how amazing they are and people should stop being jealous haters and build other women up (I die a little inside when someone uses that phrase about bloggers bullsh***ing their followers)

Agreed, she only #ad for her outfit in think in one or 2 snaps/insta stories. I thought from the # that it was just the hats that were sponsored and she showed them being delivered.
But going by her sister's insta-stories, where she has in fairness to her #ad all of them, it would appear that the full outfits for the 3 of them were all #ad.

True. Bar mentioning the brow products they don't seem to mention Benefit as much anymore. Which is a bit disappointing because Benefit have released some new products these past few months. I have to say I'm not the biggest fan of Kate in Benefit, I find her faux American accent grates on me.
Mark seems to be doing well with Flormar. But what has annoyed me a little is Flormar sent out PR packages to some bloggers very recently and now they are all using the primers and talking about them. This product was launched a year or so ago, bloggers raved about it then but they didn't seem to put heir hand in their pockets to buy another one, and now cos they've been sent another free one they are raving about it again!

New thread in Blogging & Social Media re Depop and selling gifted merch. Pop on over if you care to join.... Didn't want to discuss it here as it kinda falls out of the AD chat.

Now that you can add website links on snapchat, I see bloggers using it to link through Reward Style. I haven't seen one of them declare that it's an affiliate link.
On snapchat now Rosie Connolly has a load of links to her Asos wishlist. No mention of affiliate links even though you can see it says Rstyle at the bottom where you swipe up to the link.

Yea this wish list bs. You never saw them put in that much effort in before when they weren't being rewarded for it.
Also I see another blogger has come crawling back to Snapchat now you can add affiliate links and make $$ after cursing it from a height, and writing a ragey blog post about how she was done with it for good. Gas.

Ha! That is hilarious. I deleted snap chat a few months ago and I was wondering why she had gone back to it. I was very close to messaging her to ask why as she was really on her soapbox about how much she detested it and wouldnt go back to it.
She is unreal for backpedaling on things.... snapchat, vegitarianism, ethical fashion etc.

Totally. And sure you wouldn't mind her changing her mind about things like that's life and we all do it- but she is SO aggressive about her absolute hatred for certain things (disposable clothing, unethical shoppers, farmers, meat eaters, Snapchat) but then when it suits her she backpedals and climbs right back into her hypocritical hole and acts like nothing ever happened and like she never offended people. Lol.

Went to find the blog post and her blog being redone I assume, wonder if it'll be there when it's live again, I would be interested in reading it.

Nail on the head! Most people won't begrudge someone changing their mind, but it's the sheer preachiness of it! She was a vegetarian for approximately 5 minutes and was making comments like "I can't believe I used to think eating meat was okay!" Like would ya stop. Long term vegan bloggers don't do that.

Was sent a survey from Instagram about the new 'paid collaboration' headings which will be on accounts where the person has been paid which will eliminate the need for #ad. If it's from a company's official IG they already have the headings that say sponsored.

The ads on Instagram are increasing big time and I find it somewhat ruining the experience. FB and Tumblr same thing happened, once the ads take over it's no longer user driven social media it's the same as watching telly having ads shoved down your throat.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 383 ✭✭Lindy97

I see Grace is debating whether to do a  blog or video about the whole #ad thing......her tone when discussing it seemed very...defiant I felt.
I actually hope she does and leaves comments open on it, for people to be constructive

I don't actually think she's the worst for that at all, she discloses where she needs to as far as I can see!

She has started using it more now but hardly ever used to. Probably because of all the media coverage and a lot of it centered on her, to be fair she's certainly not the only one but as one of the more "relatable" bloggers IMO it was worse that she was letting on she just wasn't being gifted/sponsored/paid etc to show a lot of the items.

I'd also bet my life her PT is FOC or discounted etc as almost every session is snapped now, can't see her doing that much coverage for nout!

Last night there was over 20 snaps in a row of all Meaghers Phc products….in fairness she had them all marked AD and i was able to tap tap all the way through. But seriously how borrrringggg!!!
