You probably didnt know that one of the fellas on in the morning has a child with the woman he used to do the show with and that they are married because he never mentions it.

She moved back to evenings so she could spend more time with her. Conor Irwin is looking after her slot at the moment, but I don't see him staying permanently.

Think I just heard my first Commitments song on Nova - In The Midnight Hour. Claiming (in the film) to be a "real" Dublin band I'd rather listen to them twenty times a day instead of the same from U2.

Max which do you prefer/hate more? Nova or SPIN?

Tuned into Spin yesterday....5 minutes of talking about Longitude followed by 5 minutes of ads..it was like that Miller show on nova....enough...

I'm happy for you. Now if only Nova would play some ONOFF or The Hot Sprockets... two other great Irish bands.

Except then you and the other two would be on here bitching that the Commitments isn't rock music, why are they playing soul etc.

I personally wouldn't complain if they played more soul :P Especially if they cut down the U2, Bastille, Shania Twain etc as a result.

Think it was Davin whatshisname that played it last night - he played a great selection of music. Was more like a PJ show.

Would that be Peter Devlin who's on before Alice Cooper on Saturday nights?

Nah - Davin, Deven, Daven.......something like that. He's on after Tony on Fri night. The Graveyard shift. 1AM to 6AM according to the schedule. He has a great voice for late radio - very smooth and calming until he plays something like AC/DC lol

Unless it's either Peter or Gavin Glass, I've no idea who you're talking about. According to nova.ie there is no presenter on 1-6am on Saturday mornings. Or else I can only assume that you're referring to Kevin Branigan (who presents the odd time) and getting his name wrong?

If they play more soul I'm out... The odd metal tune would be great

Even among the relatively small group of people here there is significant variation of what they want to hear.

A commercial radio station is going to have to appeal to as broad a selection of the population as possible (some might say the lowest common denominator :o ). That's unfortunate for really dedicated niche music lovers.

But, the station will first and foremost consider those that advertise (who may or may not like rock music) will they do so on this station? Music stations are very expensive to operate.

While everyone on here will have their own strategy, they most likely do not have any 'skin in the game' and think 'If Nova only played the music I like...'. However, a lot of self employed will know what it's like to run a business, and will know they'll have to make sacrifices from doing what they'd like to do.

Practically everyone in Nova and other radio stations love radio (if they've not become too jaded), but do so within a commercial world where they need to fund the radio industry AND compete with a government funded behemoth that are the RTE stations. The TV licence also funds state radio stations.

TL/DR give 'em a break

One thing which I think must be done is for the BAI to remove the news quota for all commercial stations. Let a music station be a music station if it wants to be.

I notice they're pushing this music festival in punchestown a lot and yet none of the line up appears to be nova music.

This is surely a question for the concert promoters, not Nova.

Now that you mention it Max, I think Nova should play more of Gavin Friday's music. He's like Bono but cooler.

Ha! Well there shows the power of the subconscious! I don't think I have ever seen an episode of that show, but recognising and not being able to pinpoint the music was driving me nuts!!

Perhaps the folks had it on when I was a young fella!

    Thanks!!!
