So he was there 22 years but everybody hated him and couldn't wait for him to go and wanted to see the back of him? Even though there's never been a reported case of him having a bust up with a fellow player or an ex-player attacking him in the press. A bit of a reach.

Anyway I'd prefer to keep on topic to the basic point that Ken wasn't making sense as Terry isn't retiring.

You think he wouldn't have stuck around at Chelsea for a meaningful non-playing role if one was on offer, rather than farting about for a season at some other, lesser club for the sake of a few more bob?

    Don't know really.

Ken being a bit weird about Chelsea "not finding a non-playing role" for JT, implying they don't want him around. Well he might not want one if he isn't retiring so don't think it's fair comment.

Ken was saying the it was obvious by Terry's demeanor and what he saying to the media after the match that he wanted to stay involved with the club but hadn't been offered a role. Whats weird about that?

Haven't seen any comments or seen any other journo reach Ken's conclusion. Not sure if Ken is right on this one.

There was a strange story about him having to remortgage his house 2 or 3 times so money problems could be an issue but no hard evidence

Could it be something to do with this movie investment tax avoidance thing, that seems to have caught out a lot of footballers, including Rooney?

Could be something to do with paying people off not to sell their stories as well, like the 750k he was alledged to have given Bridge's ex.

I think that movie investment scheme story came long after the remortgaging story TBH.

Just to update, went through my usual Friday rake of backlogged pods and it does seem the ads were on football weekly rather than SC.

Anyone listen to Kens politics one from Friday? I thought it was fairly boring, nothing new or interesting.

Yeah I found it boring. I wouldn't really blame Ken and his guest. The Trump era is a depressing unfunny joke. I think every journalist is struggling to cover it in an interesting way but it's still getting wall to wall coverage because Trump generates so much news.

Found it pretty dull also. Was expecting more considering some of the pure gold Trump delivered on his trip

What are they going to do now that the football is essentially over? They're going to struggle to whip up content for 5 shows a week now surely

Still have the Lions, GAA, Wimbledon (other grand slams?), and presumably lots of other sport.

Football is pretty much the only thing going away for the Summer and even then there's the confederations cup.

And of course, there'll be plenty of transfer bollocks/news to wade through if they so desire.

There'd be room for non-news related stuff. Looking at clubs in a more longterm perspective, like how Huddersfield got to the PL, safe standing, quality of reffing this season and technology, the endless string of corruption stories and the greater impact they have on football.

There'll always be something to talk about.

I thought they might do something music-related when this whole World Service gig started. Like the politics one.

    Only music, not politics.

Didn't Ken write for Hot Press or something for a while?

Ah they'll probably still focus on Jose the whole time regardless :pac:

Just listened to the GAA/drugs conversation. The guy saying that (essentially) GAA players should be cut some slack because they're (a) amateur and (b) don't have the education was infuriating. Interesting twitter thread popped up around this today actually: https://twitter.com/Scienceofsport/status/869453310234955776

This is one of those years where there is a hole in the football landscape for a couple of months.

They might give some more coverage to the league.

Send Ken Early on a whistle stop tour of the LOI.

Instead of LOI discussion's on the show being part of a "barstoolers" angle or some other negative slant, how about going to a few games and discussing it like they would other leagues.

Or send him over to the States to cover MLS and we get to listen to that new 'Ken on the road' music.

The "GAA have a problem with performance enhancing drugs" brigade on an account of one failed test due to a contimated product are equally infuriating. Its a nice story for a few days that will be forgotten within a week.

That Totti item was a bit mad wasn't it: journalists in floods of tears? And a 40-year-old footballer who thinks he should get a chance to play on.

Yeah. Pretty poor alright. No real insight or entertainment. The little snippet intro where the donald says 'i'm gonna bomb the **** out of them' was the funniest bit of the podcast.

Yeah maybe, but 2 of their 5 podcasts a week are usually football, they'll definitely struggle to fill content for two extra podcasts a week of sports they don't currently cover imo. Could imagine lots of people unsubscribing for the summer, but I doubt that will come as a huge shock to the lads anyway, they'll have anticipated this.

I think they should have given people a heads up as to what their plans are for the time that football is over. I suppose they still could. We have 3 Ireland games and the CL final to keep us going until next week. Then the barren run hits.
