There's no one playing football at this time of year, don't be crazy!

Would love some more specials preferably not GAA/Rugby related. Do a series of interviews with Jerry Izenberg or something - I could listen to him all day. I haven't listened to the Richie Sadlier pod with Damien Duff today but I'd prefer that to endless Lions wittering.

They should at least get some coverage in on the Irish teams in Europe. Just get Richie on to chat about it. There is so much interesting stuff happening in the LOI, it is a shame that they show no interest in it.

I know the rest of them take the piss out of McDevitt when he talks about it, but it'd be great if they did something about mass paticipation runs. Something about the Dublin marathon covering history & maybe training would be brilliant.

A lot of training plans are starting now-ish, it'd be great if one or more of them did it and gave a tiny weekly update.

I'd say McClean cancelled when the ban stuff came up. The Irishman abroad stuff is usually done weeks earlier

Is it just me or is the GAA talk getting as bad as the rugby for just talking about "passion" & "emotion" without talking a whole lot more? Maybe it is just because there is too much of it and I am being cynical.

dunno bout anyone else but I can't stand to listen to Oisin McConville.

I really like McConville; I used to have zero interest in GAA but he's made it very interesting for me. I can understand that people might find his voice difficult but I like his analysis.

Yeah I actually find his analysis is good. In that he gives actual tactical analysis.

Anyone else find the chat with Duff sort of off-putting? What does it say about somebody that he has reached nearly 40, has no idea what he wants to do with his life beyond playing a sport he knew he wouldn't be playing after 40 and his mother minds his money.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,024 ✭✭✭✭Baggly

Look beyond his shy/humble demeanor though.

He has property investments and 'other investments' and if someone you trust would look after those for you and give you the proceeds, would you not let them?

Id rather be swanning about or considering a masters than trying to collect rent or chase invoices myself.

Would put me off a career as a professional footballer if I 'could turn back time', had the talent etc.? No...

I have no issue with rugby coverage. It's usually one of my favourite slots. I just can't stand the Lions tossology.

I'd put him firmly in the "go out there and give it 110% camp"

Haven't heard how the Laois hurdlers got on, or was it even Laois, pretty irrelevant in any event

I've just about come to accept there will be rugby on the pod even if I'm not too happy about it, but this Lions bolx is taking it to another level. Might have to cancel my subscription as a form of dirty protest (I won't as I couldn't be arsed and the football will be back in 6 weeks)

It really is quite funny how they point blank refuse to cover League of Ireland, even a token mention to tick the box. Don't care either way but at this stage it'd be a welcome break from reporting on a marketing trip.

Same here. I'm interested in rugby, but find it hard to give a shít about the lions.

Really enjoyed the football show today. The Russian doping especially.

Deese Russian lads are dzopes, as Black Puddin' O'Toole would probably have it.

As if 20 min of talk within the last 6 months warrants a celebration or something? Ken has had 50 rants about mourinho that have each lasted longer than that.

    :D:D:D

The LOI chat was enjoyable though even if it was all about Cork's rise and Dundalk's demise.

Cork City are 19 games into a season where they've won 18 and drawn 1, and this was the first time they've mentioned them...?

For someone who had such a short career, Richie's time as a professional footballer wasn't boring anyway.

One year since that brilliant pod of them taking the piss out of England, this thread has grown 143 pages since they made it

Would be great if a few more professionals would be as open as Richie about life as a professional footballer.

Good interview with Michael Calvin on today's pod about his new book No Hunger In Paradise. Enjoyed his last one Living On The Volcano, the new one sounds pretty bleak though. It's about youth football, kids being signed and sent for trials in the UK at 3 years old! Madness!

In the I/v with Shane Horgan on the pod today the irony seemed to be lost on the SC boys that if they had just got Roy Keane on to do a 2 minute preview of the lions tour in NZ it would have saved a lot of time and wasted shows.

Christ that was one tedious interview. "I sat down with him and let him have it for 40 mins"

    Sure you did mate.

I feel eoin is a bit too eager to agree with everything some guests say, I just wish he would hold them to account like he does Ken.

Same with the guy earlier with his stat about those players who make it to the PL conveniently forgetting all the English players in the Championship, league 1 and even 2 who I would say are still quite happy with their life choices.

He mentioned a statistic about 10 seconds later on the probability of players ending up as professional footballers of any sort.
