cancel the order and maybe sign up to Digiweb instead if it's proven this difficult, plus you will also end up with a far better modem with wifi that actually works.

Cheers Gonzo. I may just do this. I'll check them out. Was digiweb an option for you?

it was an option. I went with Eir as we were with them anyway for ADSL and I wanted to keep the 'free' BT Sports pack on the Sky dish. I remember before ordering reading about all sorts of problems with the F2000 but the wifi on it is even worse than I'd ever imagined. Happy enough with everything apart from the modem.

According to Digiweb, they charge €199 activation fee and the smallest contract I can choose is 18 months for a high speed FTTH contract! Though they do say they have unlimited downloads per month. I wonder do they have a FUP?

    https://www.digiweb.ie/ultrafast-ftth-broadband/

I'm not sure it's worth the extra €199 and being tied into 18 months.

I could use that €199 and just buy myself a better modem and stick it out with eir.

This is such a backwards country, I signed the contract and now I can't get fibre because there's a tree branch in the way. I'm the one who's supposed to find out who owns that single tree and get it cut.

They should check the premise before signing the contract ffs.

Well, the FTTH install was today.

Got a really sound lad from KN. Did a great job. Real tidy install terminated exactly where required beside the gigabit network switch!

Exactly how I would do it my own home (which it was).

He took the time to discuss all the cable run options.

No hassle with eir either, even came a day early. Original install was for Wednesday 10th.

    Went with the 150Mbps package.

So I'm happy, after coming from 5-10Mbps land. This particular government scheme works for me :)

What's the monthly cost & contract duration for that plan?

    150Mbps FTTH
    €55 p/m
    18 month term
    Eir sports included.

Winter 2018 seems to very common for a lot of exchanges. Does it mean January or February which would mean a downgrade for you or does it mean the other end of the year November or December?

    means November/December

January 2018 would still be marked as Winter 2017 in Eir's view.

Installation on Tuesday. Looking at it, the nearest pole is out on the road. I reckon my my house is just a bit too far to sling it directly. Also, my house is down a slope from the road making the gable too low I think.

So on Tuesday I'm expecting to be told a pole will need to be installed closer to my house.

You didn't require the extra pole then, there was no problem with the distance from the pole to the house?

Does everybody that's following this thread and have an Eir Ftth connection using an F2000 router?

A few have replaced their routers with their own, you're free to do so as long as it supports VLAN tags on the WAN, but the F2000 is the only unit Eir will supply for any non ADSL connection now.

It was 47m, 50m being the limit IIRC.

He put a small "L" shaped bracket at the top of the gable which gives it plenty of clearance. Very short distance down the eaves into the attic. Job done.

    Well pleased.

    That's what I got today.

I'm just using it as a bridge, F2000 WiFi turned off. Still using my own router and wireless AP's. Installed them maybe 8 months ago. 5GHz AC. Have 2.4GHz on it if required for older stuff.

House wired with CAT5 back to gigabit switch. So things like Sky box or smart TV have wired LAN.

Have all this in place for a day like today :)

I just noticed Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford had 40 premises able to access 1000Mb/s FTTH when the map was updated a few days ago and now it has 80

    Sounds great, good feedback.

This isn't a government scheme though.

I had the same issue a week ago, now put back to 25th May. Contractors had already cleared trees for the initial main fibre run, but didn't do it properly. Crew that did the fibre run didn't bother reporting it, just pulled fibre through the branches. The installer was on his own, with only a ladder, so couldn't install.
    Frustrating indeed!

Was this on your property, or out on the road?

I'm interested in this too. My existing lines come in overhead, but a large Spruce tree has grown up and the lines are basically going through it. There doesn't seem to be any danger of the lines being snagged as such, but any new line would have to go through there as well. Will they not do the work in that situation? I've been thinking of getting rid of the tree anyway.

The good news is that although there weren't splitter boxes yet on my N.W. road out of the area, this morning I saw the largest collection I've spotted of KN vans and personnel round the corner from my house at the end of our line, including one guy gazing up at one of the poles. So hopefully we might be getting splitters today! :)
So I stopped and had a chat with the KN lads on our road yesterday and it turned out they weren't doing splitters, just finishing the cable run to the end of the blue line half a km beyond my house.

He said that it was a different crew working behind them in most areas who were doing the splitters - he called them "Romanians"
He told me they're usually about 2 weeks behind, so hopefully we'll get splitters before the end of the month. He also clarified that there's no point in calling to sign up before the splitters are installed, but as soon as they are, keep calling and pestering and get all the neighbour to do so too, as they prioritise areas with seemingly high demand for the install work.

I'm moving to a house that is ftth enabled already(current tenants have it) but I'm on a standard fibre broadband package at the moment, €45 per month, I really don't want to switch to an eir extreme package where the cheapest option is €70 after 3mths, does anyone know if it's possible to stick with standard efibre broadband 'up to 100mb' package? I don't need 150mb + speeds, I'll be quite happy with 100mb coming from 12mb!!!
I honestly can't afford to spend another €30 a month on broadband, rent is already going up by €200!!
    Thanks

Its a separate tech completely so it'll depend on whats available. You could have a scenario where its:
    E70 for 150Mb
    or
    E45 for 7Mb

There's a broadband only package for €55 PM on an 18 month contract. Still an increase but not €30. The likelihood is you are not going to get anywhere near the 100Meg if you opt for FTTC rather than FTTH.

As FTTH is available at his new house, it is very unlikely that FTTC is available. It will either be slow ADSL or cutting edge FTTH.

Right so it would be either take the new ftth set up, or stick with whatever was available at the premises prior to that? Which could have been 'up to 100mb fibre broadband' which only got a speed of 7mb, just like we only get 12mb on efibre currently?
So the fttc connection is completely different to the ftth then?

Have you got a link to that? I can't see that package online. Only the €35 for 3 months and €70 thereafter

Regarding length of contract, I signed up to Broadband & Phone 150mb 12 Month Contract. Email has it discounted to €50.00 from €55.00 (55 on site, 57 on email) but I will wait and see.

"Here are the details of your new eir service
Bundle Name: eir Complete Broadband & Phone
    Your Bundle Includes: eir Talk
    eir Fibre Extreme 150Mb
    Contract Length: 12 Months
    Promotional Price: €50.00 per month
    Regular Price: €57.00 per month
Your Add Ons: eir Sport and BT Sports Pack €0.00 per month
Your Promotional Discounts: Promotion - 5 Euro off for 12 months €5.00 x 12 months ending May 2018"

There was a cooling off period on my application... I contacted them in talk to us. Naturally I asked them to remove the cooling off period lol.

Edit (Again): Just to add, Anna from eir in the just talk section acted very quickly to my question. My connection date is 15th May, which would have been the date my cooling off period ended.

My whole installation process and dealings with Eir have been an absolute disaster so far! Was supposed to get installed 2 weeks ago. Rang several times, left on hold for over 5 minutes on each call. Had to get hold of a supervisor. They kept telling me that I got installed, but it was just the KN guy wiring up my telephone again!

Eventually was told last Thursday they messed up my order and I have to cancel and then re-register. Called them yesterday and was told this still wasn't done. Got through to sales who promised they'd call me this morning with an update. Still no call yet! I'm having serious doubts about signing up to Eir!!!!

Same here Chewed. A painful process with Eir.

FTTH install (and reactivation) of phone line (eir bundle) due yesterday. Sound KN Techician reactivated phone line but said they have no order from open eir to install FTTH at my address.

So onto Eir and they say my FTTH order (part of bundle) not processed, despite promising previously it will be installed yesterday. They were talking about having to cancel FTTH part of existing order and placing new order for FTTH.

So have F2000 but no FTTH!

They are due to ring me today.

    Not holding my breath.
