I signed up with a rep at the door and I know you can get it over the phone or on webchat - its visibilty on the website seems to come and go - presumably because they want you to opt for a higher priced package.

It's just the way they have it up on the website that makes it confusing. For example of you choose broadband only option you need to select purchase and then customise it. It will give options to change speed, add phone etc. Price changes when selection changes.

Same here Chewed. A painful process with Eir.

FTTH install (and reactivation) of phone line (eir bundle) due yesterday. Sound KN Techician reactivated phone line but said they have no order from open eir to install FTTH at my address.

So onto Eir and they say my FTTH order (part of bundle) not processed, despite promising previously it will be installed yesterday. They were talking about having to cancel FTTH part of existing order and placing new order for FTTH.

So have F2000 but no FTTH!

They are due to ring me today.

    Not holding my breath.

Sorry to hear your woes! But glad I'm not the only one. Their customer service is a complete mess and totally disconnected from each department. It's 2017 and they can't just re-update the order and proceed! Why do they need to cancel and re-register details again????

From my dealings with them for a business ADSL line (only 4 yrs ago), I was told their systems take 24 hrs to update. So they had to cancel the order, I then waited 24 hrs hoping they'd rem. to add it back in. They did but wrongly again. Wait another 24 hrs... Repeat.

    Total joke at times.

Was this on your property, or out on the road?

I'm interested in this too. My existing lines come in overhead, but a large Spruce tree has grown up and the lines are basically going through it. There doesn't seem to be any danger of the lines being snagged as such, but any new line would have to go through there as well. Will they not do the work in that situation? I've been thinking of getting rid of the tree anyway.
The trees are on the road front of my neighbours site. I'm not sure what the story is with this, as the main fibre line already goes through, as will the line to my pole. That should be their business to sort. There could also be issues from the pole to my gable, but I imagine that would be up to my neighour or myself to sort.

    Install booked for this morning.

Engineer on site for 9am. Nearest splice box was 4 poles away, and he had to ring and get a helper to deal with traffic (narrow busy road) which took about 40 minutes. Ran new cable to by gable end, I ran it across the attic and down into the top of a press in the corridor virtually slap bang in the middle of the house.

Loads of room to install a switch if needed.

Finished by 12:30 and I left to go to work.

My area is due to go live on the 29th May fibre itself is in place all around the locality. However only about 20% if that, of the splitter boxes have been installed.
I believe that a whole area does not go live on the one date, just wondering what time frame it takes for a whole area to be enabled. Thanks.

From reading this forum (and my own area) I'd say about 1/3 of an area goes live each month.

My area had a few weeks between areas going live. I've seen people say months between though too

Sorry for such a silly question but where would one buy the duct that the cable has go through? Long story short but after having a KN technician visit we decided to put the cable underground as opposed to pole to house (it's a bungalow so the wire would be hanging very low), it's no problem digging the short trench but we also have to get the duct cable (is that even the correct term?), I should of though to ask him on the day but obviously I'm a bit clueless... Thanks

As far as I know any 1" PVC piping etc should be fine, the fibre itself is tiny. When you lay it run a couple pull strings through so they can easily run the fibre at your next appointment.

No sharp turns is the main thing.

Thanks so much reply, so I should be good with any regular hardware store like Woodies etc?

Try a builders providers, probably cheaper. Something like hydrodare water pipe should be suitable.

According to this RECI document, a 37 mm thick walled polyethylene or 50mm PVC duct is recommended for the duct.

That doc is for POTs, so shouldnt be taken a gospel. You can twist a copper carrier much more than GPON glass.

So if I go into any building providers and ask for the above they will know what I'm talking about? Can you get any length you require? Thanks everyone for taking the time to reply

I have an eircom doc that recommends 37mm internal diameter underground duct to the ETU, I assume they will be pushing fibre through these eircom recommended pipes.

They should do. I'm sure you can buy it per metre. The important thing as ED E says is avoid any sharp bends or turns when burying it. Fibre does not like being bent.

ive been waiting 2 months for installation..... kn guy came out 2 months ago, looked at the underground duct we had for the copper and woudnt do the job as he couldnt get at one end of it. Told me to dig it myself (not so easy with concrete slabs over it) and hed be back. waited for him to come back so i could ask him to just do an overhead but of course never did. Theres a fair few tress between the house and the pole at the road, what are they like with trees? will they refuse to put it up?

When they are prepping an area for a fiber rollout, anyone know what the letter which are sprayed onto the poles are?
    I think I've seen a 'C' and a 'L'

Un fúcking believable! I call again today to check on my cancellation (as I was told to wait 48 hours) and am told it still hasn't gone through!! "It normally doesn't take this long" and "There's no point in talking to a supervisor as this is a system issue" are the responses I get.

Customer service person gets commission on the higher priced package I presume

    Got Connected!
OMG after 10 years of 'no faster than 3 MB' this is amazing...Fibre actually connected to the house.
KN guy was super, came in looked about made some suggestions and then got to work.
Once he was done, I had to go to work.
Just messing about now and performance is super. Home network is working perfectly - CAT5e throughout with a Gigabit switch...signed up for the 150MB package and getting 142 down and 29 up on 5GHz wifi with 6ms pings. On a wired connection, getting the same with a 5ms ping.
After all this time using bogband, this is unreal.
Weekend tomorrow, so new xBox game, watch Netflix and most importantly play iTunes.

congrats, and I don't want to rain on your parade, but I want to prepare you for potential disapointment... as I went through something similar recently...

    * It may transpire that your historical poor showing whilst playing Xbox Live is not actually related to very high ping times, but instead driven by the reality that you are in fact, realitively ****e at online gaming.....this was my unexpected experience anyway...:o

Are those wifi speeds through the Eir-supplied unit or do you have that wired to something better?

I know some people have reported problems with the Eir wifi unit, but do we know for sure that everyone has problems? Or are some getting OK performance out of it?

Our area is FTTH enabled, but our lane way has not been fibre enabled i.e. the engineers didn't run new cables to opposite our house. But they did 200 yards away.

What type of cable would Eir lay if I order a new broadband line?

    Thanks.

If you're not one of the 300,000 commercial FTTH rollout then most likely copper.

What does the NBP map indicate for your eircode - http://www.dccae.gov.ie/en-ie/communications/topics/Broadband/national-broadband-plan/high-speed-broadband-map/Pages/Interactive-Map.aspx

Mine is fine on the W10 laptop, but I've had issues on my Android phone being a bit laggy on initial connection.

Talking to someone else I know he seems to be the same

Anybody else with this issue able to confirm that it's only Android devices that have the issue?

Wifi on laptops, games consoles and sky box's is generally fine.

It's smartphones and tablets where the issue lies (all brands).
Very intermittent performance despite full signal all the time, usually up to 20 second wait before something will load then it will work for maybe a minute and stop working again, untill you kick it into action again later on.
