Neighbours are currently in a 12 mth contravt with Eir for poor ADSL broadband and TV.

What's the dilly with FTTH for them then?

Do they just get their broadband bumped up or do they have to wait till after their contract is finished to get FTTH?
Asked eir retail rep about this before and he said they would just view it as a new renewal even if you had 9 months left on the old contract; so no penalty

Thats always been the case, if you're upgrading (paying more) then the ECC never applies.

I am hoping to get ftth from Eir by mid June in my area. There is a lot of postings about Eirs F2000 router and it's unreliable wifi. I have a netgear DNDV 37000 adsl router with gigabit lan ports which I bought myself a few years ago. It is in charge of my network and it is coupled up with an Eircom D1000 modem for Eirs Adsl service. Will my netgear router connect to the fibre converter boxes. Can I avoid having to use Eir's F2000 router when I get ftth connection.

Our exchange due to go live 3 May

Got out of my VF Feb 2018 contract. BB Service now ceased.

Ordered FTTH online yesterday (contrary to sound advice on here) to avail of €100 cashback offerwhich was ending

No confirmation of FTTH order from Eir. Let's wait and see what happens

    We are currently 2mb

How did you order FTTH online, i cant it only asks me for my name and email address and says they will get back to me,,

and was the 100 cashback not for the FTTC ie upto 100mb just check it incase you ordered wrong package

If I remember I clicked into bundles then it asked for address then it offered FTTH.

There was €100 cash back on some FTTH bundles until 27th April

I took a drive around pallasgreen which is going live on 3rd may.

I don't see any work in nicker, the village itself or down the cappamore road. Checked a few eircodes and they seem to confirm that its not available in those areas. It is showing as available about 1km from nicker where the poles have those splice boxes.

No kn vans in the area so Im thinking it will be a few weeks.

In Kinvara the cabinet went live on March 22, I was able to order on March 21 and install (FttH) happened on April 25

Having run quite a few speed test during the week, data usage seem to differ greatly between mobile and desktop apps, desktop app and browser speed tests seem to be have very similar data usage however the mobile speed test apps seem to use substantially less data:

    Desktop App
    816 / 94
Data used 1450 MB down and 177 MB up

    Desktop App

Data used 587 MB down and 177 MB up

    iPhone App
    442 / 96
Data used 64 MB down and 64 MB up

    iPad App

Kind of sucky speeds on the iPad - was that just a distance thing ?

For the people with go live dates on 03/05 - has anyone had a text saying they're posting out the router ?
Just copped that if it's text -> router delivery -> install then it's pretty unlikely I'll be done next week.

The IPad probably has a crappy network card the router usually come first before the install.

It's an old iPad mini - think that's the max speed of it's wifi, all those speed test are actually over wifi.

I didn't get a text / router delivery; it was email of install date and time window and installer brought router.

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ - I'm only guessing too.
I know they are a long way off 10,000 a month at the moment.

I think they are consistent in one thing and that's vastly overestimating their ability as a company that gets things done.
Could be worse. Could still be a state company...

The highest wifi speed I've ever seen is only 106 down. His wifi speeds are much better than mine.

    order it from https://www.eir.ie/broadband/

Don't use the https://www.eir.ie/broadband/1000mb-fibre/ page as that just links to a form to contact a sales agent.

Checking for my Dads address, he's up a yellow line a KM or 2 from the nearest cabinet. The cabinet is to go live on May 3rd, I'm not sure if that automatically makes the yellow lines go live that fast or not?

When I check the second link above, https://www.eir.ie/broadband/1000mb-fibre/ : it says "Great News!
Fibre to the Home is available at ......."

but when I check the first link it still says only 512Kb is available.

I don't think any Eir reps have called around or else he missed them.

Does it sound like he will actually go live May 3rd or am I being optimistic?
Should I just fill in the contact info and let them ring me about it?

Gonzo, thanks,, i was trying your first link befoore but as i never had a phone number or phone line and it wasnt showing up my address but finally i tried a address close to me and then entered in eircode it works,,,, thanks gonzo.

The cab is irrelevant (unless its a miny exchange), the blue/yellow lines are a separate NGA product.

If the Eircode checker says FTTH is available you should be good to go, its a reasonably reliable system to mark the routes.

if your Eircode passes using that you should be good to go.

If not try the main page and enter your phone number.

I could only order using my phone number as my eircode still fails.

Gonzo, it should be noted that I'm not using the F2000 for wifi, I disabled wifi on modem and used my own (Apple Airport) and all tests are on 5Ghz band. I did do some tests on the F2000 before I disabled the wifi on it and speeds were substantially slower. Engineer told me Eir were recommending only using 2.4 band and disabling the 5 band altogether. I'm actually thinking of replacing the F2000 with something else; I haven't had good experiences with Huawei modems in the past, I went through 5 vodafone Huawei Vodafone modems over 4 years before replacing with a TP Link modem which ended up being rock solid. Anybody else considering replacing the F2000 modem?

Once an area goes live, do they usually follow along and complete the rest of the area fairly quickly ?

As far as I can see about half the area still not done and going live on 3rd may.

I'd like to continue with the F2000 for the wired mode since that gives me great pings and maximum downloads, but the Wifi is a joke, I've tried the 2.4 and 5 on my own mobile devices and friends 5g mobiles and the wifi is intermittent on every single tablet and smartphone I've tested.

If I change the 2.4 from auto to another channel, the problems persist and then the next day, the channel I selected is gone from ps4 and skybox and both had to be rebooted after I changed 2.4g back to auto. I am not gonna get onto Eir support over the modem as I know there is no solution and there is so many links containing problems with the F2000 wifi and none of them contain a solid solution to the problem.

But is there another device you recommend that I could buy just for the wifi functionality?

Apple Airports are great with easy setup but expensive - I have one Airport and one Time Capsule; the main reason I use these is we have 2 Apple laptops in the house and it does automatic backups over wifi. My brother-in-law is really into his networking and uses Ubiquiti which are not cheap, next to that he recommended Asus and TP Link in that order. I am considering buying a Ubiquiti unit as they have an outdoor unit which does 5Ghz AC

Do I need a macbook or an apple desktop computer for the Apple Airport to work in the house?

The Ubiquiti is expensive alright and not meant to be easy to set up.

Wifi will work with all devices however it seems you need a Mac or iOS device for setup and administration - sometimes Apple have that model on their store for €109 with free delivery and I've seen them do it on refurb section for €79

    from Apple WS:
    System Requirements:
    Setup and Administration
Mac with OS X Lion v10.7.5 or later and AirPort Utility 6.3
iOS device with iOS 5 or later and AirPort Utility 1.3

ahh, I only have windows and android devices in the house.

perhaps this Asus woudl work? http://www.pcworld.ie/Product/asus-dslac55u-wireless-modem-router-ac-1200-dualband/335218/402.0.9

If I buy that, I disable the wifi on the F2000, keeping the wired mode only.

Connect the Asus to the F2000 using ethernet cable and use the Asus to beam wifi around the house?
