I have reached a new milestone in my boards.ie life. My 1000th post. Definitely not up with the level of most of you. Was trying to think back on them and I'd say 999 of them were rubbish .
Thanks for putting up with me and who knows, I might catch up on Reggie yet

    Cattle are colour blind.

    That's not entirely true.
Have you asked a cow can she see red and green?:D

I had a bull here and he knew the difference between red and white cows and black and white cows.
I didn't ask him if he could see a red cow but he would puck the red cows for sport.
    Just the red ones mind.:p

    A little bit more here.

    Quality, not quantity! :-)
    Ideally both. Keep on going!

Was the sun at their backs when you approached them?
Were you coming from the west towards them?
Because if you were it would look like stripes of light coming towards them especially with the low sun.

Just think yourself when you meet someone wearing one on the road at night and you in the car with full beams on.
That's what they could have seen.

I think one of them panicked and then set off the rest. I was kinda day dreaming I suppose as I walked up to them. Direction - from the south west, to be exact.:) Luckily they weren't at the other end of the field or they would have jumped out onto the motorway. Never seen anything like it. I was wearing the same jacket all winter in the yard where they were.

I never heard before about not driving while wearing polarised sunglasses. I have sensitive eyes (to light) and wear sunglasses most days even when working in the yard. I would get migraine headaches too if I didn't wear them. They are always either on my head or else I'm wearing them unless its pissin rain or very overcast.

I just remembered being told years ago that Cat4 glasses aren't supposed to be worn while driving but doubt it's a real issue tbh!
Filter category 4 lenses only transmit between 3% and 8% of light and are not suitable for driving at any time. Sunglasses with these lenses should, by law, be labelled 'Not suitable for driving and road use'.

Was down as far as Youghal today and into Cork city with work. Down by Mitchelstown and home through Mallow. Hard enough frost around Hospital and into Fermoy. Loads of silage cut from there down. Same on the way home. The further north i was going on way home the less fit the silage fields looked. There was a lad in a new holland near Redbarn giving silage its second wilt. Different world altogether.☺.

I walked this red clover and ryegrass today, I was surprised how good it was, still a bit thin in places.

I remember reading somewhere about the pace of spring arriving. It reckoned if you walked this island from South to North you'd keep pace with spring. I think it takes about two weeks.

Maybe one of the Kerry men here might give it a go some time :-)

Not in part of Cork with much silage cut. I read before that it was about 3 weeks Spring from south to north, but that may have been the UK. They had the number of miles but can't remember it.
Really longer day mid summer in the north than the south.

Looks well. Second cut red clover is always better than the first.

Have 4 heifers in a field away from the home place. Went to look at them this morning and threw on the fluorescent jacket as it was nippy enough. Walked up to them and they flew in all directions. One went through a barbed wire fence into a house and another out over a hedge into a field of bulls.
They are there over 2 weeks and quiet out. They dont even stand up when I go to herd them. Must have been the jacket.
Was it just the jacket you had on, Patsy?

Coz that might have done it too:D

My Mrs is the same, she had laser surgery on her eyes about 14 years ago and has been awfully sensitive to light since, even on bright cloudy days she needs them

Ganmo, its 3 weeks from Lands End to St. John O'Groats for Spring. Brain very slow.
Haywire, has definitely damaged it now, with that pic.

That's why I wear the sunglasses a lot, find the glare very awkward

Made the mistake of offering to help neighbour with herd test.

2 other lads there and the roaring and shouting and beating cattle with sticks would drive you mad.

Was loading the crush just grand but got give out to for not using the stick.

Other lad jumped in and started whacking cattle. They got loaded no faster but he felt the big man.

Not my cattle so couldn't say anything but if he did that to my stock he'd get gate

Stick at it as Reggie says. There's great satisfaction when you finally submit it!

Cat 4 are really for skiers and mountaineers etc where there is snow.
I buy Cat 3 and they have to be polarized otherwise they are useless.

I'm getting mixed up I reckon! Mine are the cat4 ones but find them much better on the water, glare is terrible otherwise. Somehow in the years since I heard it first i mixed up Cat4 & polarised :o
