Lot of dandelions here in some fields. They in nice? flower at moment. Is it to late to spray them, and if not IS MCPA the most suitable spray

I'm not sure how I feel about this, tbh.

An artificial womb has been developed that keeps premature lambs alive for weeks, another milestone on the way to provide similar for premature babies.

They say that once they go to flower you are too late. They are not the worst weed. Palatable enough to stock, and full of vitamins/minerals apparently. And wearing a non farming hat, a field in a sea of yellow looks nice.

Also a really important source of nectar for bees.

I'm on the look out for a good pair of sunglasses. I suffer from headaches and migraines so they'd be worn at least twice a week. Every day from now on. Any suggestions on a good pair but will take a bit of abuse ? If they are good I don't mind paying for them.

Gotta pair of Bloc ones here. €60 I think I paid. They double as safety glasses.

Reckon these late hard frosts will kill chances of damsens and plums, apple trees are at a vulnerable stage too.

I reckon our plum tree blossomed early enough to escape the frost. The last few years it has had poor amount of plums due to frost. A good few of the apple trees might be in bother though.

I have a pair of Oakleys that I use daily for driving I couldn't recommend them highly enough. But whatever brand you buy make sure you get polarised lenses it makes some difference.

Yeah that's the main thing. What model glasses do you have ?

I thought you weren't supposed to use the polarised glasses for driving?
I've the below set of Oakleys the last 6yrs or so and can't fault them, though I also have a pair of 'Sports' sunglasses with interchangable lenses from Lidl and use them when I'm at rougher work in case I break them.

It's always a one sided discussion on Pat Kenny, I find. I had to stop listening to Pat because I always wondered if the stories reported on were balanced or not because of the bias on Agri stories.

Have 4 heifers in a field away from the home place. Went to look at them this morning and threw on the fluorescent jacket as it was nippy enough. Walked up to them and they flew in all directions. One went through a barbed wire fence into a house and another out over a hedge into a field of bulls.
They are there over 2 weeks and quiet out. They dont even stand up when I go to herd them. Must have been the jacket.

Maybe , or would they have been spooked by anything overnight ?

They only took off when I walked up to them, but ya, maybe they were on edge from something that happened earlier.

A neighbour used to arrive every other weekend during the winter to buy a bale of straw. He always wears a high viz coat (orange florescent one) and if he went never the cattle yards there would be almighty commotion with cattle heading to the fields with their tails on their backs.

That's interesting, we have two heavy council jackets here, fluorescent yellow ones, and cows don't pass a bit of heed on them. Though they're used a good bit around them in winter.

Same here, we use them on winter and never see much reaction.

But I suppose if they never saw one and it came at them by surprise it could startle them.

I never heard before about not driving while wearing polarised sunglasses. I have sensitive eyes (to light) and wear sunglasses most days even when working in the yard. I would get migraine headaches too if I didn't wear them. They are always either on my head or else I'm wearing them unless its pissin rain or very overcast.

Was the sun at their backs when you approached them?
Were you coming from the west towards them?
Because if you were it would look like stripes of light coming towards them especially with the low sun.

Just think yourself when you meet someone wearing one on the road at night and you in the car with full beams on.
That's what they could have seen.

Wonder does the colour bother cattle at all ? The reflective strips might make sense alright

Cattle are colour blind. If there was a reaction to the jacket, it was the light off reflective strips.
