I brought them in, they are hardy as anything but a night inside will do the ewe no harm. will put them out again before i head back to england tomorrow evening.

You did the right thing I'd say...

If anything happened you'd be very annoyed with yourself... and it won't cost to keep her in for one night...

Could be worse, son just finished degree and decides to change tack and start in college again. Another 4 years. A big draw but we'll do it.

Vet student we had here this year, brilliant worker, done that and was told to finance it herself....proper order I'd say, but she was exceptional..never had a student to work like her

Expensive going. Think it's something like 10k a year for that... still if it's 4 years for a grad entry that's 40k which would scarcely pay for a year in college in the states. It's not too bad a country in ways.

She reckons it'll cost over double that by the time she's finished, she's got a Credit Union loan,

Low interest rate loan scheme that is government backed and is paid back when student starts working. Has to come in. I'd be with rangler1. Students over 18 should be on their own steam. How many left for US on a one way ticket at 14.

Not sure how well that would work.
Australia had a system that encouraged ppl to emigrate after graduating and the us system of student loans is thought to be having a huge negative impact on their economy.

I reckon a CU loan is the best way to go

You could be right. Either which way let the student get a part tome job and pay itback!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 728 ✭✭✭MF290

Depends on the course workload too. Some of them would strongly advise against part time work.
Sister studied in England and theres a government loan which will be paid off only when she starts earning over a certain amount per year. She thought it was a good system anyway.

Whatever about over eighteen, but the ones that start again into a course without earning a bob should definitely pay for themselve...... there's no guarantee they'll be worth a damn even after the second degree, plenty aren't.

The Discipline of paying their own way has to be better for life skills than drinking touring around the world

I think deciding on your career path at the age of 17 is a very tough one. I dont know how many parents I have asked what their child wants to do after school and they say they dont know. Its very young to be making such a big choice

What's worse is if the parents know what they want the kids to do.

He is a good young fella. Earning as much as he can ATM.
I have no fear he will pay back society for his education. As parents, we will help all we can.
Young people, don't need their arse kicked, metaphorically.

Noticed the swallows have returned everywhere except those at the house.
    Anyone else missing "their" swallows?
