I also get TA-ed at attempts to call me "brother" or variations such as "bro", "bruh", "brah", etc. You wouldn't want me as your brother, "pal".

    What's TA-ed?

    See here.

Indeed, a lot of my.....mates......would call each other Pal or Kid.

Yeah same. I call all my friends, pal.

    You're welcome. Good lad.

Lad & Man works fine in this neck of the woods. Even Boy works when you're on a bit of a session. And it's spelt Boiiiiiii apparently.

Anyone else have an issue with this?

Have to say whenever I hear people use the terms "Bud" and "Pal" it's in a passive aggressive manner and does my head in. But then that type of behaviour in general drives me mad.

I've lately seen it sneaking into Boards as well and I simply ignore any post that has either of those words in. It's generally someone who's very bitter or angry.

I see you liked this post of mine:

    :D

Yeah, someone uses 'pal', I stop interacting with them immediately.

Me too, no matter whether the argument is a good one or not, just don't want to bother with someone that uses these terms when they run out of arguments.

    Good man.

Said with the right tone and context, basically a way of saying I'm senior to you.

Ugh try being called "good girl" by older men who do the exact same job as you.

Passive aggressive smilies are just as bad.
"Maybe you should go back and reread before replying. :) "

Even if the person posting it is right it's still annoying. Sham.

I remember about ten years ago being the second car at a set of lights and when the light went green the car in front stayed out. It was night time and I didn't want to leave the driver stranded so pulled in and went to see if I could help.

There was a young girl driving and seemed perturbed by my offer of assistance but rolled down the window. She cranked the engine and said 'dunno like - I just filled it up and now it won't start duuude' in a really patronising way.

I said 'This is a diesel, right? Did you fill it with petrol?'.

She double face-palmed and cried "I FILLED IT WITH PETROL. IT'S NOT MY CAR. I'M A COMPLETE MORON"!!

Yeah I suppose they can be used in a passive aggressive way as well when I think about it.

To me though pal and bud are never used affectionately. Mate can be.

I don't know about pal but bud can definitely be used affectionately. A lot of fathers Ive seen call their little sons bud or pal, in a nice way obviously

Anyway this is a silly argument because words mean absolutely nothing on their own its entirely about tone! You could call somebody a ****ing **** if they do something cheeky and they'll be grinning

Why did she say dude in a patronising way to a stranger helping her?

Just another thought, women don't have an equivalent. I'm a woman by the way.

Adding a string of xxxxx's or a 'hun' and a smiley face after a thinly veiled snide comment on Facebook?
