I work with a good many Indians (the sub-continental variety, not the American native ), and it's only when you mentioned it, I realised how many of them will call me friend. They're genuinely a friendly sort anyway... now it occurs to me, lads from the Middle East, Mauritius - "Hello friend..."

I remember Dave Allen discussing exactly this.

Heard an off-duty Garda I know give this reply when someone addressed him as 'Horse' -

I also get TA-ed at attempts to call me "brother" or variations such as "bro", "bruh", "brah", etc. You wouldn't want me as your brother, "pal". :mad:
