Having a discussion with a nazi implies that being one is a legitimate viewpoint to have. What would you discuss? Which race or minority needs to be exterminated next. Best thing is to remove their platform. Everything aboit it is corrosive to democracy.

    once again, define nazi.

also note the irony of taking away someones right to speak because theyre bad for democracy :D

You have to just hope some people are trolling and are not that stupid or even worse... serious.

No, antifa aren't communists, stalin wasn't a communist. Socialism is all they ask for. People just haven't done it right. Unfortunately Venuzuela is the latest to royally **** up the simple plan of making everybody equal; equally ****ed with shops with no stock and a country that's dying on its feet.

Antifa aren't communist. Some individuals might be but so are some man utd fans. Doesn't mean man utd is communist.

In some ways I can agree here. I'd never get into a discussion with a random neo-nazi because I think they are a joke, possibly even a troll, and simply not worth my time.

If it was someone I cared about like a friend or relative then for sure I would discuss it with them because I'd like them to see why it's wrong. I'd be hoping to change their viewpoint.

Should society have the right to remove their platform? Honestly, if it meant their ideology would just die off and never come back then maybe yes.

Does it not worry you that removing their platform or making up lies about them or outright assaulting them in the street may actually improve their situation in the long run?

If we are removing their platform then we are being authoritarian ourselves right? How authoritarian should we be? Do we just stop at Nazis or do we go after everyone we consider to be illegitimate or "corrosive to democracy"? Or do we allow ourselves to stop at Nazis and just find a way to label our future opponents as "Nazis" or maybe even call them "pre-Nazis"?

I certainly wouldn't trust you to make the decision on who gets a platform and who does not. Hell, I'm not sure I'd even trust myself. So maybe it's better to just let them have their say and then argue against it rationally?

I doubt your position is outlaw any belief that undermines democracy so I was just highlighting the hypocrisy of your post. And even if it was who gets to decide. If there was no concept of free speech in the West then gay people for instance wouldn't have been able to put a case for their rights. Why allow someone to advocate for something that is illegal right?

Let everyone speak, then the arguments can be demolished in the public sphere if so deserving simple as.

A belief in gender identity involves a level of faith as there is nothing tangible to prove its existence which, as something divorced from the physical body, is similar to the idea of a soul. - Colette Colfer

Why not engage and ridicule their beliefs?

One of the greatest achievements of our own country was doing this to Catholicism. We didnt 'punch catholics' and look its not 100% gone but its effectively dying. And furthermore I don't want to see catholism gone, I'm quite happy with people believing in it.

In the UK, the BBC invited Nick Griffin onto one of their current affairs programs and he was destroyed.

Justin Barrett was interviewed on numerous TV shows and caught lying and making up figures thus undermining the Nationalist Ireland party's credibility.

If you want to destroy an idea like Nazism, engage, debate and expose it to ridicule.

    The antifa way

    1. Make sure everyone agrees it's ok to attack and punch nazis
    2. Designate anyone with a different viewpoint a nazi

This exactly, as I've said before the easiest way to kill richard spencers movement is to let him speak! shutting him up with violence only strengthens them.

so you're completely obvlivious to how him getting punched strengthened his movement online? but sure hes afraid of being attacked by thugs thats definitely a win! if you think thats a good way to win an argument fair play to you, says a lot!

That retard was never anywhere near going mainstream are you serious? :D:D even if he was why are you so afraid to debate him you'd rather violence? that gives more legitimacy to his nonsense than engaging him and letting him make a show of himself! when you have to hit someone it just shows you have no argument to counter their points, and with spencer its not exactly hard!

Its not even true that he won't go out. There was a video of him outside some sort of government building in Washington with a megaphone ranting about something a couple of days ago.

They're afraid, I believe, because deep down they know how naively idealistic and profoundly illogical most liberal arguments of today are and so the only option they have is to attempt to take away the voice of those that disagree with them. When you have professors at NYU losing the plot at the mere thought of the alt-right speaking on their campus you really have to wonder what the hell is wrong with them.....

How can they not see the hypocrisy in calling themselves anti-fascists and then demanding that people be prevented from expressing their political views. It's sheer madness but then if that professor is an example of the kind of teachers who have been shaping these students's minds over the last three or four decades then it's not surprising that a good chunk of liberals today as equally as intolerant to opposing views.

Do Antifa not realise that they are pushing more & more people over to what they consider the right. People have seen them start the violence at peaceful marches & stopping speakers attending meetings. Thats why the fight back happened at Berkeley, people got tired of not being able to march without the fear of getting attacked or called a nazi

Anyone who followed gamer gate or the alt right can see misogyny is a big part of it. Just look even in this thread a females looks are part of attacking her.

Gamer gate did attract misogynists, no question, but its initial seed was an anti-feminist backlash against feminists trying to 'change' video games and video game culture. Protip: A newcomer to a group demanding that the entire group culture and behaviour changes is only ever going to piss people off.

It's a real shame that so many unimaginable assholes from the alt right piled in on Gamergate and turned it into a misogynist movement, the original message was lost - stop trying to insert cultural authoritarian propaganda into literally everything, whether its core audience actually wants it or not. It's still a message that needs to be sent, somehow, but Gamegate self-destructed its own credibility in a spectacular fashion.
