Straight chick who's already said she was propositioned in the same way that Lara joined the business, but if you got "John" from any of my posts then I'm not going to disabuse you of that notion.

Do your clients usually take the cash out of their wallet or do they ever give you an envelope?

  • Registered Users Posts: 282 ✭✭LaraLushhhhh

I can give you some points

    1. How are you dressed when entering the hotel and does it match your story if you are asked in polite conversation.

    2. How are your clients dressed when when entering the hotel.

    3. The hotels you use. Do they generally have male or females on reception.

    4. Are you booking under your own name or are you a "PA " booking on behalf of your boss.

When working in hotels, you tend to profile the people walking on the door at a glance

    I dress smart casual
I don't get clients who wear track suits !!!
Also I must add I only ever use hotels where the lifts are away from the reception area or underground
    Mainly female receptionists
I book under my own name

I check in around 1, I pay as I check in so if I do leave early it's not noticed

When you're putting on a condom, do you grab the tip and roll it down or do you do it the way most other escorts do it, just grab the base of the condom and stretch it out?

    4. Are you booking under your own name or are you a "PA " booking on behalf of your boss.

I'm a PA and often book for my boss. Am I doing something wrong?

As an aside, great AMA, you have great patience, Lara, some of the questions are ridiculous.
The age one is an example.

What part of "she's not answering that question do you not understand"?

As an independent woman, even the questions are annoying me, never mind having to entertain people who clearly are not the sharpest tools
    (Pardon the pun)

How do you keep yourself mentally challenged when you are working?

    No just dinner

How does that go? You did say earlier that sex is always involved, and I'm assuming that you're on the clock from the moment they arrive. So, they meet you in the restaurant, pay you for your time, pay for the meal, up to the room, shower, sex, leave? I must be missing something, why bother with the meal? Loneliness?

You've mentioned that you don't intend on interacting much with other escorts to keep up your sense of privacy. I recall reading on some forums previously of sex workers or people intent on being sex workers reaching out to others for advice and such. Have you ever had to deal with another escort approaching you regarding these kind of subjects seeking to discuss with you as a peer?

You seem to emphasize a need to identify yourself as independent (I'm aware of the distinction), but even as an independent escort, do you consider others in that line of work peers, or just someone who does the same job? (Not as a judgment on them, Ive read your replies earlier about curiosity of the potential for others to be escorts and that's pretty much it)

There tends to be a lot of perception focused towards sex workers as victims. I appreciate your commentary here is an effort to normalize our view of the people involved and i recognise it'll be a difficult one to put across. It appears to have been well received here. Best of luck with it.

I tend to keep myself to myself but yes I've reached out to other Irish girls on occasions for advise about one thing or another. They've all been lovely might I add but I don't want to get too friendly with them. It's just my preference. Girls have contacted me before too just for a chat. I've no problem with it

Hi Lara, I've previously worked in your line of business too and I agree with pretty much all of what you say. For my part, I have a family so it was slightly different style of USP /business offering. And therefore, I am in a position to answer the "what would you do if you had family " question, and fwiw, it's broadly similar to your own current answer :-)
In respect to pimped or forced prostitution, I agree with you, there is no comparison or if it neccessitous by virtue of extreme poverty or addiction, and people should not disabuse themselves of the notion that all Irish women are in the fortunate (?) position you're in. Nor is it all "happy hookers " either!
Given that I've mentioned above in respect of working while attached; do you think it would be difficult for you to reach a juncture where you are satisfied that you've made your money and can draw a line under it? Also, do you feel that whilst working in this area, are you less open to the prospect of meeting a partner?
    Great AMA btw.

I don't judge you at all for the record in case its coming across that I am negative about the industry itself, I think prostitution should be legalised for what its worth and the women involved given greater protection. What two consenting adults do is between them as long as there is no harm being done.

Prostitution is not illegal in Ireland.

    What Lara does is legal.

"Exchanging money for sexual services is not illegal in Ireland however, soliciting, living off the earnings of prostitution and organising prostitution are illegal as set out in the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences) Act, 1993"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,162 ✭✭✭Mister Vain

Isn't there a new law being implemented in Ireland to criminalise the purchase of sex?

What's a "real escort" in your opinion ?

No sex, someone to go see a movie with or hangout with at an event. I can imagine there are 1000's of guy who would like to avail of such a service.
What football team to you support?

As I said previously I am lucky enough now to have enough regular clients so I don't need to meet strangers anymore but yes it was very scary not knowing who was coming to the door.
Where I work from thou they would be very silly to try anything nasty
I havnt been contacted by anyone I know thank god

    what does this mean?

  • Administrators, Business & Finance Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 16,936 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭Toots

Do you supply the condoms, or does the client? I'm assuming you'd supply them so you could be sure they were good quality/in date, etc? Do you have a big selection that you bring with you, or do you have a preferred type/brand that you stick to. Hope that's not too personal :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,044 ✭✭✭✭anewme

Do people take money out of their wallet?

No, they do three cartwheels around the room and it flies by magic out of their backside.

You have great patience as I've said!

I honestly do think that if i really wanted to stop then I would stop. Immediately.
I will draw a line under it but when I don't know.
I'm open to meeting someone to have a relationship with yes but at the moment I'm happy enough being single. I have dated guys too since I've started this but for one reason or another things havnt worked out.

Funnily enough, he's got a point. On the <most popular escort advert website> that is one of the suggested etiquette rules, that you place money in an envelope, rather than taking it out of your wallet like you're "at the checkout in Dunnes".

I'm guessing fellas don't, and if they did, would you trust your regulars enough not to have to count in?

    Hi Laura,

What do you do with the money you make? I presume you can't lodge it into the bank for tax reasons so do you spend it all or store it somewhere?

But do you carry your money around in envelopes, in your pockets.

Actually I get the point if you gave an envelope sealed , would you count it out in front of customer.

But that could be applied to any trade, e.g. Gas man coming to fix boiler, I leave money in an envelope.

What I like about AMA is the chance to ask people questions that do not appply to every walk of life.

I see the average "john" dressed like a"John" walking in and going to the lifts.

How does a "John" dress? Sunglasses in winter and a newspaper in front of them to cover their face? As Lara has already said her clients are of widely varying ages, I would presume they wear a variety of clothing styles as well.

    Hi Lara, loving the AMA

What would be your least favourite aspect of the lifestyle/job?
Aside from the money whats your favourite aspect of the lifestyle/job?
When you were first stating out you said it was nerve wrecking not knowing who was coming in the door, did you have any sort of security put into place during that time incase someone or something got out of hand?
What would you advise yourself three years ago about getting into the busines that you didnt know then that you wish you did?
You say you make all your clients think they are your favourite, but do you actually have a favourite?
You said one friend knows about your escort work-why/when did you decide to tell them, was is straight away or was it after some time in the business?

Apologies if any of these have been answered before, and thanks again for doing this! :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,044 ✭✭✭✭anewme

Maybe too personal question. Like yourself, money is a motivator of mine.

How will you know when you need to give up as opposed to keeping going because of the money, i.e. work life balance.

While people have said you won't be getting rich, taking home between 4-5k per month net would be the equivalent of what, 90-100k per year?

That's decent money and not always replicated in a day job.

I'm likening it to the career of a footballer, great earnings, but short career span.

Will it be hard to give up?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,705 ✭✭✭✭Tigger

there are a lot of assumptions here about savings and rationalaty of selling ones self

i personally feel that its a "nice" lifestyle choice for her now but that she wont be retiring off it or making a career progression off it

you only live once as the young folks say

is this what you think op or do you have a plan?

My least favourite aspect is the travelling. It gets pretty tiring
My favourite part is the money, simple as
No I didn't have security when I started
Yes I have a few favourites ! I love to see them coming !! No pun intended
My friend knew from the very start and even travelled with me which was security in itself for me

Ever met anyone famous on the job?

Do you work xmas and other holidays or take it easy?

When you travel, do you try follow the money, as in go to an event that will attract rich folk, race meetings etc?

Do you use other hotel facilities bar/restaurant/ leisure center/ have a game of tennis. I suspect it's all room service.

Wow Lara... what an interesting read, and so honest! I actually only finished watching 'The client list', a load of rubbish but kinda car crash tv!

You say that if you ever had a daughter that you wouldn't like her to get into this kind of business (totally understandable, we've all done things we wouldn't like our children to do), I think I possibly know the answer to this, but here goes; how would you feel if you had a son and he visited an escort?

I watched the client list too! It's rubbish acting isn't it ?! I'd have done beetter myself.
That is such an interesting question. I'll probably get bombarded with negativity for this but no I don't think it would bother me if I had a son who visited escorts
    Hi there.
Have you read Paying for It? I really enjoyed that book.
Also I'm wondering if you're aiming at a more high end clientele, which I assume you are given the term escort over prostitute (don't mean that to sound sarcastic) were you ever worried that you may be booked by someone with a lot of disposable income? Ie-someone with money from crime proceeds. Maybe that's too personal to ask but after reading that book that thought occurred to me.

Thanks for this AMA Op. My question is; what was your perception of prostitution/ escorting before you started working in the industry, and how does it compare with your current view of the work, knowing what you know now?

What's the need for the negativity? I didn't have the time, so pardon me if asking a few questions is a bad thing. Some people.

In this thread, the ama's time is valuable, yours isn't; and you were wasting it by asking them to repeat themselves, when your questions were answered fairly early on, and you could have just used the search function. So yes, "some people".
