    Just an update for people:

Numbers can be ported out, I was told by a couple of staff they couldn't but mine ported out this morning and now my account has been cancelled, can no longer log in etc..

So for those of you porting out, it can be done now.

Same situation for me. Successfully ported to Vodafone on Monday. Cant get into my account online anymore.

Awaiting my final bill with interest. I have no doubt they will manage to make a bags of it.

Guys, I'm trying the 1913 number and just getting lost in a sea of menu options, none of which include talk to a real person. What did you all press to get to speak to someone?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,681 ✭✭✭Vahevala

    Here's a strange one:

I cancelled (via 1913) and went down to the 30 day rolling contract no problem.
I asked for the unlock code.....no problem.

About an hour later, I get an email from Three stating that Samsung said my IMEI is already unlocked.

I bought the phone on a two year contract about 18 months ago from a Three shop. So how could it be unlocked?

Three are selling unlocked phones on contract?

I don't have another SIM hand to verify it really is unlocked though.

I had the same message from Samsung but I didn't have the thing to open up the S6 so I can't verify it truly is unlocked.

I've been tethering like a hoor since November 2015 when I came back to Three. Never ever been an issue.

Have many people been offered the upgrade early option to get you to stay when ringing up to cancel? I was speaking with the fabled dedicated team last week and said I would stay if they gave me an early upgrade and was given a point blank NO.

Why would you want early upgrade ?
If you cancel and go onto the €30 sim only plan, you can then upgrade any time you like by going back on contract.

I was on contract, went to sim only plan, and now in My 3, i can upgrade immediately, bu going back on contract ..

    My upgrade status.

    When can I upgrade? 06/12/2016
    Upgrade now

    Ring 1913
    Select Option 1
Next, don't select any of the 1 to 4 options, wait and she will then ask you to select 1-5 options. Select Option 5.
Then she asks are you thinking of leaving Three? (select 1).
Then you should go on hold for 10-15 minutes

Thanks! I'll give it another go :)

I also tried the 1800818021 number off my landline which had none of the menu options nonsense but the sound quality was terrible, don't think I could have had a converstation even if I managed to get through!

I only bought my iPhone 7 in November so v.excited to get out of my contract :D

Took me ages, two days of calling and then I had to wait 40 minutes but they eventually picked up. They then put you on hold AGAIN halfway through the process, this time with no hold music, just light white noise - presumably to fool you into thinking that you have been cut off. Chancers.

I was thinking of porting my phone to eir as I have a landline with them. Can they port my number out or do i have t cancel with three first?
    Has anyone done this?
How do I go about it?
    TIa am totally clueless

Just called and moved to the €30 per month SIM only plan. That kicks in from 1/4/17.

Took 8 minutes on hold and 2 minutes on the phone. No sales pitch- painless

Basically exactly the same - once I said that I was willing to stay on the €30 per month contract, it was really straight forward, no further sales pitch. Was on hold for more like 25mins but sure heyho.

128gb iPhone7 is now all mine! If the next iteration looks amazing I can just sell what I have and take out a new contract then :)

Thanks again to the person who figured out the second secret menu on 1913, legend!

I presume canceling the contract has no impact on your credit rating? As it's the carrier breaking the terms of the original agreement?

Got my letter about the price increase in the post today....a week after I cancelled.

3 have found a new "loophole". The call costs equivalent of total remaining bills on your contract.
I don't understand this. What does it mean?

    Joke.

Whats the difference from changing to 30 euro contract sim only and the 25 euro prepay? I kind of want to get this done and out of the way.

No it will not. They broke the contract, not you. Will have no effect on your credit rating (unless you don't pay the final bill).

I rang them up and gave the cancellation notice then ported yesterday. So long as you confirm the cancellation first then you can port.

Just be careful, if you don't do anything by 1st of April after cancelling, your number will be gone, so either go to sim only, payg or port off the network.

Yep and the first bill I see regarding tethering will have me out the door. (already on SIM only plan years now)

Has anyone got a prepay phone unlocked due to the changes?
I got a contract iPhone 7 unlocked after cancelling, but I have a prepay 5S purchased a few months ago which got a text saying I can cancel the 'contract' without penalty?

Do you mean if you haven't moved to your new plan (whatever that may be) by April 1st you lose your number?

Because I asked something similar to this on the three forum here earlier, because I'll be out of the country when my contact ends (the 2nd) and won't be activating my new prepay sim until a few days later. They said it wouldn't be a problem, just call them when I'm back and ready.

I was warned by two agents when cancelling that because I wasn't going sim only that if I don't get a new PAYG sim and move my number to that (sim swap) or port off, then I'd loose my number. Again, their words not mine.

Just saw the reply on the TTF, Strange indeed, then again I worked in a call center for a UK mobile operator, and on numerous occasions I was able to get the number of a closed account moved to prepay.

I've asked Julie for clarification on your thread in the TTF.

For some reason I have an idea that you have 10 working days to move your number over to your new account?

The agent on the phone also told me that on a prepay sim, the 20 euro credit you buy with a new one online is activated from the moment you purchase it, so you're already at a loss for the days it takes to be delivered or any days thereafter that you don't use the sim.

An agent on chat later confirmed to me this wasn't true, the credit is only active from when you put the sim in the phone.

I'm not saying they're lying, but maybe the volume of calls has them flustered?
