Anyone managed to swop over to sim only by calling into Three stores. I'm currently on hold with everyone else. I've tried calling the 1513 but they have changed the options and refer you to online chat.
They will tell you to contact canclations.

Just spoke to my friend who's been on the Virgin plan for 3 months. Apparently (he knows about such things being all tech-y) Virgin have the same coverage as 3. They use 3's infrastructure (and pay 3 for the pleasure) so you should have no difference in coverage between Virgin and 3. I can't speak for any other providers but that seems to be the case with Virgin. My mate has been very happy so far.

He also availed of the €5 per month for the first 5 months but you need to be an existing customer for that. i.e. have your broadband with Virgin or what have you.

Anyone else with an HTC 10 waiting for the unlock code?
Have you checked your account on their site? I cancelled Friday and the code was there on my account within a couple of hours

Where was the code on website? I was told it would come via e-mail. Was your phone an HTC 10?

Take the advice of the previous poster and call 1913 and follow his instructions. I was sorted in 20mins.

Seems like a no brainer to switch from 3 bill pay to 3 bill pay sim only or 3 sim only plan.

For anyone considering switching to another provider beware, only 3,Meteor and Vodafone will offer you the coverage you expect, they own the infrastructure, All the others Tesco,id,48months, lycamobile use the previous o2 3g infrastructure which is fine for voice but not data.

This may not matter if you live in a populated area but if your rurual beware, my wife signed up to Tesco and cannot use her data as there is ZERO coverage at our house, and we aren't exactly in the sticks.
Check this site for the nearest transmitters to where you will use the phone http://siteviewer.comreg.ie
    ID use the 4g network

Persevered with the 1513 number and followed previous poster's instructions (Thanks Amamac). Switched to 3 sim free on the 30 day rolling contract. Done and dusted within a couple of minutes.
They originally offered me a 10% discount and the option to upgrade 4 months early but I declined. Delighted with the new deal as I had a year left on my contract.

it is still three's network they use Id. Three have upgraded most of the masts but they still have a good few to upgrade.

I bought an iPhone 7plus 128gb from 3 four months ago and was on their €55 per month plan.

Was on hold for 20 minutes today but eventually got through. 3 person said it was just a small increase but I said 3 had broken the contract and I wanted out. Then he offered me the early upgrade (i have the latest iPhone and so wasn't interested) and then he offered me a small discount to €50 per month which I declined. After a minute or so of him extolling 3's virtues I said "look you've altered the contract and I want out" to which he said "I can offer you the same package you're on now for €30 per month on a monthly contract and you can leave anytime you want". So I kept my unlimited calls, texts and data and I'm paying about half what I was and the best bit, the iPhone 7plus that I considered buying outright (for €1,100 but I couldn't afford it) as I hate long term contracts is now mine, all mine with no contract to 3 (well a monthly one at most).

Good outcome for me but I wonder how much 3 has lost on this when you consider the number of customers they've lost to other networks and the revenue they've lost by allowing people like me to get out of long term contracts and into price plans that are half what I was paying them?

20 minutes waiting to get through this evening and 8 mins talking to 3 rep, knocked 18 months off a 2 yr contract. Switched to 30 day sim only plan. Having the freedom again is fan(bloody)tastic :D

Someone on the 3 payroll is for the chop, they must be losing a fortune because of this. Heads will roll............or have 3 got an ulterior motive ?

I would argue that their stupidity is in continuing to think that their customers are thick.

I cancelled mine yesterday afternoon and still no change in My3,even though I checked using the Chat option this morning and they confirmed a cancellation request had indeed been received.

My friend rang today to cancel her contract and was told My3 would get updated within 48 hours. I think they stopped putting the stuff through the system and are now just taking everything down on a spreadsheet and somebody is then sitting doing overtime trying to process it all on the system.

I would say that significant numbers are simply switching to sim only or prepay and at some point will go back on contract to get a new phone. As others have said, some people might just accept the first price rise in years as reasonable and don't change anyway as they're the same people who don't change their electricity supplier (which just reminds me!), bank etc.

I'd also say that the cost of continuing to allow all you can eat data for someone roaming on holidays would be so exorbitant that it's been very worthwhile for them to change the T&C's.

Last year on holidays in Spain we had to buy three 25 euro prepay sims in a spanish vodafone shop for the youngling because of going through 4GB of youtube every two days. That was also on top of the 100 euro I added to my raoming bill tethering before I figured out it was cheaper to buy the prepay sims locally.

When 3 acquired O2 exactly 2yrs ago, it took their total customer base to over 2,000,000. you seriously don't think that this was just some tool that made the decision? This is a huge organisation, with another 8,000,000 customers across the UK. They don't do anything without thorough analysis. The fiver a week increase for those who remain will more than cover the cost of the few that have benefited.

Going by this thread (and people I know), the majority of people seem to staying with Three and just making a (most welcome :pac:) short-term saving in terms of contract remainder and current phone by going to SIM only. I'd say many will just end up signing up for shiny new phones in the next year or two (and at the new contract prices).

Plus I'd say the majority of Three customers are probably still unaware of this or not bothered.

A company that big would have thought all this through and taken a calculated risk.

Check back through the thread. Depends on the date you cancelled and whether or not you're still in a billing month for the old contract.

Hey guys, sorry if this has already been asked but there is 90 pages on here.

I'm on a 24 month contract and pay 60 something per month. If I cancel my contract, I don't have to pay 60 a month anymore? So if I buy a new sim and get the same deals I currently have (all you can eat data and three like home) I'll only have to pay 30ish a month and not the 60 something a month anymore? Sorry if this doesn't make much sense and is a stupid question but I'm a little confused.

If you are on a flex plan or plan that is being increased you can cancel and go on 30euro sim only plan unlimited text.phone.data

So I won't be paying the 60 a month anymore? What about my current bill that's due out in a few days, will they still take that out?

    Nope you'll be contract free.

Yes you'll still have to pay that because you'll have to wait 30 days for the contract to be done.

    Awesome, thank you!

I'm trying to phone 1800818021 to cancel the contract but when I phone it I just get a few beeps and then the call is finished. Is there another number I could ring?

You also need to ask for a network unlock code for your phone, they won't just give the code unless you ask. It might take a day or two to get the code from the manufacturer.

Yes my phone is the HTC 10. Log into your Three account and you should see a 4x2 grid of options. One is "Mobile and Plan" in that box there is "My PUK code".
