I signed up for the 30 day rolling sim only last week and now want to go with Virgin. Do i just ring three again and cancel totally?I presume i've to give 30 days notice. Then order the Sim from three and activate it in 30 days?

Live chat was closed today for some time but It's back now.

Has anybody actually received a confirmation of their contract cancellation? Looking online, my contract end date is still the original date despite cancelling a week ago. The Agent online also says the same?

right i finally got it done.

after they tried to sell me on the 2 free months and then some kind of 30 a month package.. i said no, i want to go pay as you go 20 a month.. they agreed. contract will end on April 8th, then i can sort out the switch to pay as you go SIM

I will also get an unlock code in 3 working days for the iPhone.. i think the contract was about a year into the deal anyway.. so this is nice to get out.

i saved the chat transcript as that was the only evidence i have of it !

Cancelled mine this morning. I was on hold for roughly 25 mins but once through the process took less than 5 minutes. My contract wasn't up till 20th November 2017. I've moved to the €30 sim only plan and as I have a friends/family discount, my bill will now only be €24 a month for unlimited everything...which is great. :D

Edit: The guy I was speaking with didn't try the two month free line rental offer with me,once I said I wanted to cancel and move to the €30 sim only plan, he said fine, i'll do that for you now. My new plan doesn't kick in till 1st April and he said I'd get a confirmation text at the time to let me know I've moved to the new plan.

I rang back a few days later and got him to confirm the cancellation and date.

I have a 25% discount(deal for a multinational company at the time) for years on my 40 euro a month contract..costing me 32..anyone else got this ..and will they honour this..has anyone enquired about this..I just can't get through today..ta..

I have a 20% discount which is applied to my account. I still will have it when I move to 30 day sim only plan on the 1st april. I asked three times that I definitely keep the discount and was assured that it is applied to my account and as I still have an account and am only changing plans, the discount still applies...so yes you will keep your discount, just be sure to ask them to confirm it when you ring to cancel your current contract.

Just cancelled my bill pay and downgraded to sim only, I was offered 2 months free to stay as my contract is up n Jan, the guy was very helpful and basically said they can offer you the difference of the price increase through free months, depending on how long you have left on your contract. There was no problem with the unlock code as I told him I was probably going to change to virgin, he said itd take up to 14 days and can be text or emailed to me whatever I wanted. Just watch the fine print with sim only bill pay, u need to give 30 days notice to cancel and it says that u have to give it in writing, I'm onto help on twitter at the moment clarifying this, cause nobody gives written notice anymore, but it could be a way to get an extra few weeks out if you..

It may have been answered already but there's so many posts here.

If you take the bait and go to the €30 a month plan they are offering. Does that sign you into a new 24 month contract ?

Does it harm the ability to upgrade at the date you already had ?

It's 30-day (notice) SIM-only - a rolling contract that you can cancel any time with 30 days' notice. You can upgrade immediately you are out of your old contract.

You can upgrade if the upgrade date is before the contract changes come into effect, or if instead of canceling they let you upgrade early. But once you move to the sim-only 30e contract you cannot upgrade.

Well you can....you just need to go into a new 18/24 months contract on the new terms

I got a letter similar to others that my contract is changing.

Ok today my 18 month old iPhone 6s broke beyond repair. I've 6 months left on my contract.
Can I now cancel my current contract and re-sign to a similar plan albeit €5 more expensive to avail of a new phone with a new 24 month contract.

Looking at the Samsung s7. Should I just buy one outright and go sim only rolling contract?? What's my best option?

I cancelled this morning at 10am also with 8 months remaining on my contract. I moved to 30 day rolling sim only contract. I checked my account online earlier this evening and it's been updated to show my contract expired today and it also states that I'm eligible to upgrade since 09/12/16. I'm assuming that under normal circumstances you can generally upgrade three months early and as my contract ended today the upgrade date automatically reverts back 3 months. So to answer your question, yes you can cancel completely and you are free to upgrade almost immediately.

The Samsung S8 is out next month so the S7 will possibly drop in price once it's realeasef so might be width waiting

But when you choose a phone to upgrade to it asks you to choose a price plan :)

My bill decreased & I get unlimited calls & texts which I never had before so it's a win for me. I am sim only by the way.

We are all pay as you go. so if we just stop using PAYG and go Sim Only, that would work for us as well?
I assume as we are just PAYG then we don't have to cancel anything.

Yes that's right as you'll be back under contract. No one said you wouldn't be.

And one other possible peripheral benefit from all this:

Since I am on a 'new' contract, I thought I would chance my arm and try to activate the Deezer free trial again for three months.....and it worked no problem!

I had used the 6 month free trial last summer so I thought it wouldn't be allowed. In December I got the Spotify 99c for three months but that's over now so this came at the perfect time.

Some day, I'm sure I will pay full price for a music streaming service..... but not before June 2017.

Just cancelled there, absolutely couldn't have been easier. I'm in contract until April 2018 so was great. Fella on the phone was friendly and gave the token if you wait in contract we'll give you a free month, etc but I just said I wanted the 30 day rolling contract.

If you are referring to a meeting that involves all top brass cracking open cold ones in celebration at the hundreds of thousands of customers who will just pay the fiver increase without question, then yeah, you're probably right.

Got through this morning after 33 mins on hold. No hassle otherwise. Opted for pay as you go and will be moving to Meteor Sim Only afterwards.

I did ask them if people who cancel will be black listed from bill pay in the future. He was unsure but said likely not, but not to quote him.....

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,203 ✭✭✭Parchment

Was pay as you go with 3 for years - moved to Virgin today, really helpful and nice. The unlimited deal is a good option for those moving from PAYG on 3. I have my home internet with Virgin so its 5e for 5 months for unlimited data, texts and calls. After that it goes to 25e on a rolling 30 day contract.

Edit to say my internet speed on my phone has been far faster since i moved over.

    Hi

Do you need to have a PAYG 3 Sim to move to or will they turn your current sim in to a PAYG?

As far as i know you need a new sim. When you have that they port your number over to it or something like that. They advised me to get a new sim a week before I get cut off. With 3 though when you get a new sim it cost €20 but its really €20 credit.
