    Awesome, thank you!

I'm trying to phone 1800818021 to cancel the contract but when I phone it I just get a few beeps and then the call is finished. Is there another number I could ring?

It can be a bit of work trying to get through on that number because so many people are still calling from the looks of things! Some people have reported success after calling the 1913 number, but some people have just been told to call the number you mentioned instead.
    Persistence is key here :P

Have many people been offered the upgrade early option to get you to stay when ringing up to cancel? I was speaking with the fabled dedicated team last week and said I would stay if they gave me an early upgrade and was given a point blank NO.

There's quite a few older plans that are unaffected. Typically, many of those who migrated from O2, so no opt-out unfortunately.

I've 2 plans with them (me & wife). Old O2 plans called 'Open basic extra' & 'Open 1000 extra'.

From scanning through the 73 pages so far it looks like i'm outta luck and both plans are unaffected. Correct?

But if you are on legacy plans from O2 surely you are out of contract anyway?

I got through on Sunday and cancelled I'll be migrating to sim only on the tenth. I forgot to ask for the unlock code so I applied via the site, I haven't heard anything yet, it's an iPhone 6s. The site still says I'm in contact until September... I'll see what happens after the tenth.

I think you may lose the wifi hotspot thingy. Thats been removed from a lot of their plans for the last few years.

The wifi hotspot is provided by the Mobile phone manufacturer and has nothing to do with Three I assume? Why would you lose wifi hotspot moving to 30 euro sim only?

Because they've specifically banned tethering from their most recent contracts. Its not that the phone doesnt have the capability but they can charge you for data drawn down in that way under "fair usage". Its only there for people who havent changed their contracts since around 2011ìsh.

I briefly dropped to the 30day rolling a few years back (I was waiting for a specific phone to be released) and noticed it was gone from my contract when I signed up again.

So anyone on the 30 day rolling monthly plan can't use the tethering function on their phone without extra charges?

Its nothing to do with that plan specifically. They removed it as a standard from their bill pay plans about 3 years ago at least, which is when I took out my current contract. Maybe its still on their top plan (the completely unlimited one) but on mine, the €40.66 per month, it was definitely gone.

Its not something I've ever really used so I don't know anything more. Look at the details of whatever you're thinking of signing up to before changing if its important for you. Just highlighting a possible risk.

Cheers for the info...Did a little digging and it seems like its in the contract that you cant tether but they dont necessarily punish you unless the usage is crazy. I only use it from time to time.

Yeah I used it over christmas while at my parents to allow something to download to my kindle (my parents of course couldnt put their hands on the wifi password). I literally had it on for 5 minutes and I'd say used very little data, so nothing ever came up on my bill - I guess my usage wasnt enough to trigger any red flags.

However, some people seem to use it instead of wifi at home, and in those cases I'd say people could get into difficulties if they didnt realise.

I got the letter last week and thought little of it - what's an extra fiver?
I was on Classic Flex 350 so cost me 45 euro a month or so.
Then I saw this thread and put my brain in gear. I checked when I could upgrade - April 2018.

Called repeatedly and could not get through. Eventually got through and was cut off after 20 mins on hold. Rang back and was on hold 35 minutes before a very helpful chap answered. Checked my details, never tried to give me the hard sell, asked me what my preferred options were.

I said I'd like to move to the 30 day rolling contract; he put me back on hold for 5 minutes and came back to say it's all done. I'll get the usual bill at the end of this month and then I'll be on the 30 day SIM only. I don't have to do any more.

5 minutes later I check my upgrade eligibility to see it says 'Upgrade Now.'

So I'll give it a month or so to see what phones are coming out and then I'll upgrade to a shiny new phone. Matters not a damn to me as I expense my bills to my employer.
    Result!

A friend of mine just uses hotspot all the time. He has no internet at home and the hole family uses his hotspot for internet. In January he had used something like 650GB and he wasn't charged for any of it. :D

If he's been on the same contract for a few years then this is grand. Like I said, its only in recent years that they've cracked down on this.

You can upgrade your phone and still stay on the same contract by the way. Loads of people are still on old contracts despite having upgraded their phones loads of times. But going to the 30days rolling would be considered a new contract.

    Just an update for people:

Numbers can be ported out, I was told by a couple of staff they couldn't but mine ported out this morning and now my account has been cancelled, can no longer log in etc..

So for those of you porting out, it can be done now.

FUP ?I'd say over 1/2 a terrabyte could fall into this bracket. Hope he continues to enjoy it though:)

I've just literally gotten connected after trying to ring all morning. Recorded msg saying a wait time of over 10mins to speak to an agent. This better be a free call!

3 have found a new "loophole". The call costs equivalent of total remaining bills on your contract.

So if I cancel and go the 30 days I lose tethering. Will I get it back when I sign up to a new contract for a new phone. Thanks

No, once you end your contract, you won't get it back. Its not in the new contracts.

    Here's a strange one:

I cancelled (via 1913) and went down to the 30 day rolling contract no problem.
I asked for the unlock code.....no problem.

About an hour later, I get an email from Three stating that Samsung said my IMEI is already unlocked.

I bought the phone on a two year contract about 18 months ago from a Three shop. So how could it be unlocked?

Three are selling unlocked phones on contract?

I don't have another SIM hand to verify it really is unlocked though.

Sometimes phones just aren't locked! Particularly if you brought just as the model came out it seems.

You're lucky I just got an email from them saying the imei I provided doesn't match my account:mad:
