Just off the web chat, see the attached, waiting to get through to the 1800 number now.

Fair dues to whoever flagged this up!

Have two teens on Three because of their 'all you can eat data allowance with NO fair usage policy'. They pay €25.41 a month each - now it is proposed by THREE that this will increase to 29e a month.

Think THREE are being very clever here.

My teens never use the phone to ring they whatsapp snapchat facebook Skype people.

I have shopped around and there is no other provider in the irish market that have a prepaid All you can eat data with NO fair usage policy. Three must know this but the data usage is obviously very high from a number of their young customers with no real income stream from phone calls.

So if you are a person that uses huge amount of data but you don't use your phone much for calls or texts you should at least consider going on the higher THREE tariff. A Fair usage policy means if you exceed the threshold they will charge a very high rate for data. Parents beware!!

If It seems too good to be true it usually is!!!!

Cancelled yesterday thanks a million OP.
Moved to prepay and got my unlock code. Will I need to cancel my dd through my bank after the next bill or will it be gone automatically?
    Thanks.

Just called. About 15 mins on hold.
    Only signed up last October.

They offered me discounts on my current plan, saying I'd be paying no more than 40 for the remainder of my contract. I declined and went with the billpay SIM only plan for 30 euro per month.
Unlimited data in Ireland, unlimited calls and texts and 2gb data when roaming.

Other half is also with three on the same plan so he'll be changing later too.
Better plan* for less money. Don't mind if I do!

(*Flex max plan had 3gb data for roaming but I'm not paying an extra 10-15 per month for 1gb roaming data)

Not getting through to the 1800 number! I'd say they are inundated with calls

If you cancel your contract and your phone is insured does the insurance get cancelled also?

Can't wait to cancel, I bitterly regretted it when I went to bill pay.

I have been trying to get through to that number since yesterday evening. Spent 15 mins on hold before I was cut off, and now the number is not even ringing. Is it possible to cancel through the 3 stores, or is it through this number only?

What happens when you call? I got that noise that indicates it's not actually a phone number?

I rang yesterday after work. Was on hold for about 5 mins. Guy on phone was sound when I got through. Had 3 phones on contract and within a couple of mins had them all changed to rolling Sim only deal. Very painless. My3 still shows as being on original plan, but presume that will change shortly

Any word on if the O2 customers prices are going to go up so they can cancel also? Anything in the pipeline?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,586 ✭✭✭redman

That was very painful disconnecting, 1800 818 021 wouldnt work formal, thankfully Limerick billing eventually agreed to do it for me.

Have move to Virgin (as current customer) they have €15 and €25 sim only plans that may suit some for their kids

Say I cancel now and move to rolling contract sim only and a year or 2 down the line I decide to get a new phone on bill pay again do you think I'd have any issues signing back up to bill pay?

I had the same, dialled number about 5 times over 2 minutes and got through. On hold for 10 or so minutes and very helpful girl sorted it all out for me. From 55 Euro per month to 30. My contract wasn't up for renewal untill November 2018. That's approx 500 Euro saved. Assuming some new shiny phone doesn't come along and turn my head. Happy days.
It pays to lurk on boards.ie now literally as well as figuratively.
PS girl in call centre said that cancellation only available until 31st March. Get calling........

Wouldn't think so. I'm sure they'd be happy to lock you back in to a new contract! What's to say you can't do it in a couple if months if you wanted to. Shop around after you move to sim only, it's what I plan to do after moving to sim only yesterday.

Hi all! I Was always on Classic 350 paying 40.66 a month. Upgraded mid February. Rang just there and cancelled contract as I can't justify paying an extra €60 a year when I am not usually out of the country more than 2/3 times a year and I usually make do with hotel/restaurant wifi to check in on my apps. Perhaps if I took regular weekend trips to the continent it might be worth it! Guy on the phone was very helpful. I am changing to Sim Only 30euro a month (with option to cancel at any time with 30 days notice). I think he said there was 2GB included for roaming? With my phone insurance on top of it I will only be saving 10euro a month but 10euro is 10euro which can go towards other inevitable hiking monthly bills (i.e car insurance)

To be fair I am happy with the Three coverage in my area and it compares much better than Vodafone so I will stick with the company for a while anyways. I will hopefully be a student again in September so having one less looming contract over my head and the option to opt back to PAYG with 30 days notice if needs be suits me great!

Thanks for the informative info on the thread! Without it I probably would just have stayed put ☺

Thanks very much OP. Great spot. Going to ring and cancel later when things die down.

Just a quick query, I notice most people here are dropping back to the €30 sim only rolling plan and not the €20 payg monthly plan.

Can I ask what's the major difference between the two plans?

Talking out your backside, literally nothing in this post is true.

Fair usage means if you go over a certain amount, they may reduce your speed if it affects other customers. I've been on three for 4 years and never had my speed reduced, this included months where I was using over 120gbs of data when tethering with my laptop. There's nothing whatsoever about charging once you go over fair usage

No difference really, they charge extra for monthly plan because they need to recoup the initial cost of the handset you got when you signed up.

If you took say an S7, buying one of them SIM free would prob cost 7/800 up front so they claw back the price of this via the monthly tariff.

Got an unlock text from 3.I have to connect my iphone to Itunes with a sim not previously used in the phone to complete the process! I thought it would be some sort of code that I type in!

Always the same process with iphones.

It's a SIM ONLY contract though...no handset involved.

That's exactly what I thought so that's why I'm wondering why people are choosing to pay €30 a month as opposed to €20 every 28 days?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73 ✭✭Shinbin223

It took almost 22 minutes for me to get sorted, 15 of which were on hold. When I tried that number first I got the tone that's telling you its an invalid number but keep trying as you eventually get through.
Went from the €40.66 contract to the 30 day sim only plan with 11 months left on my contract so am delighted.

I wonder is it that if you go for the rolling contract, you don't have to change sim, and they just keep taking direct debit. I suppose is the most hassle free way to go
