He's really done a great job up and down the Chiefs roster from what I can see - they look pretty much solid all over with some great playmakers (and some great 'unsexy' picks - would fecking LOVE to have Poe at GB), and even at QB where he hasn't been able to find a real star player he has done excellently in securing maybe the best 'game manager' / 'wont lose you the game' type QB of the decade and building the team accordingly to his strengths. What the Chiefs have been up to for a good few years now I've personally found very impressive.

3rd in wins in the last 6 seasons behind only Brady and Rodgers is ole Smith

Goes to show the NFL is not QB+52 :p , but all the same Smith has really done a lot to prove those who had him written off (almost everyone, myself included) wrong and very importantly also understands his limitations - in QBs especially, but nearly all athletes in team sports, that is a hugely underrated attribute. His scrambling is also very underrated, similar to Rodgers - probably with a little more pace but a little less ability to escape the pocket in tricky spots.

Just reading the Bo Jackson interview about the dangers of playing football, pointing out what a violent and dangerous game it is, and that he would not have played had he known the risks.

    http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/18465325/bo-jackson-says-never-played-football-had-known-more-head-injuries

    Favourite line:

"The game has gotten so violent, so rough. We're so much more educated on this CTE stuff (chronic traumatic encephalopathy), there's no way I would ever allow my kids to play football today," Jackson said. "Even though I love the sport, I'd smack them in the mouth if they said they wanted to play football.

Ironically a smack in the mouth from Bo Jackson would probably give you a concussion.

Might be hitting Dallas in September or October
What's a game day in Jerry world like??
How much for tickets parking etc
    What's the tailgating scene like
Failing that we might go to Austin and take in a Texas longhorns game? Any experience there??

Just seeing this, I haven't been to a football game there but I was at Jerry World in April for Wrestlemania

There was a huge amount of parking but it was very expensive. We got a bus there from Dallas which might be an option. Tailgaiting was brilliant and I can only imagine it is the same set-up during football season. There's a gigantic Walmart opposite the stadium which can only exist in order to supply people going to the ground with crates of beer.

It's a fairly incredible ground. We had a nightmare getting in but only because we were seated on the pitch. The rest of the setup looked pretty easy. Huge amounts of concessions as you'd expect and wasn't excessively expensive.

And they are one of the franchises that wouldn't have to change logo following a move.

Some would for obvious reasons because the intitials of the city appear, the Packers, Giants, Bears, Jets, 49ers etc. And you have a good few whose name woukd make less sense if they moved...Dolphins and Buccanneers would be out of place if far from the sea, the Cowboys star would really only make sense in Texas etc. But the Chargers bolt/flash can be transported anywhere...

Steelers/Cheifs kickoff time changed due to weather. Now starts at 1.30am Irish time. No early game Sunday

The Oakland raiders are to offficialy file the relocation papers to move from Oakland to Las Vegas. No relocations in nearly 20 years and now three in less than a year.

A franchise like the Raiders in Las Vegas, what could possibly go wrong

Well the NFL have caused the raider situation. The raiders instead of the chargers could/should have been in LA but from what I've read and seen the NFL never wanted the raiders back in LA. They are trying to get the city of oakland to shell out money they don't have to build when they could help out more if they want teams to stay in their current cities.

So yeah I get what you're saying about the apparent issues around vegas, but the raiders have a city that has approved money for a stadium and have the money ready. Why wouldn't the raiders not go ?

Raiders in Vegas is a perfect fit. Can't wait to see them there.

This idea that cities should pay for teams stadiums is crazy. At the very least the city should get a share of profits until the money is paid back (with interest).

These teams are making crazy money and the cities are broke, especially in CA. Personally I think teams should have to give up their name if they move cities so if another team sets up in SD they should have rights to use the chargers name. The LA team should have to be called something different and have no right to draft picks earned by the chargers.

They should be treated as an expansion team.

I'll put my name forward for NFL commissioner.

I mean California isn't doing well financially. I mean the 49ers new stadium is the newest football stadium built by some distance. I can see where the cities in CA are coming from, I mean if it's a choice of money for a school or a football stadium it will always(and rightly so) be a school.

It shouldn't be so black and white. You need to look at the income a new stadium will generate for the state or city council.

There are 53 players + coaches + staff paying tax obviously players paying a lot. Then there's the game day tad revenue . That generates a lot of cash I'd imagine

The tax doesn't go to the city though it goes to the state. The 49ers and the city if Santa Clara are suing each other at the moment too.

Breach of contract. Something to do with non NFL events at Levi Stadium, wrestlemania, concerts, college football and the like. City council have made statements that the 49ers are not living up to their obligations. 49ers are suing the city, not looking for the court to award any money but just to say that the 49ers are not breaking their contract.

Not really following it but I think that is the jist of it.

Teams used to use the "it'll regenerate the area and result in businesses being established in the vicinity of the stadium" argument but that's been proven to be a myth in most cases.

That's a good article and it's about time states and cities started to say no to billionaires looking for handouts.

California is broke too. My sister in law's a teacher there and a few times a year they have to take what's called 'furlough days' which is when the schools close because they need to save money. So they shut the schools so don't have to pay the teachers or other staff or run the buses and they save money on electricity and heat etc. I'd imagine she's be well pissed off if billionaires got state money when her salary is less because they had to shut the school.

I mean you here it's not great but I didn't know it was that bad. And when I used the example of a school in a post earlier it was just to highlight the difference between a football stadium and a school.

It's easy to point at the billionaires and say how bad they are but this happens in business everywhere, including Ireland. From straight up grants to the low corporate tax rate the government is providing the business incentives to base in Ireland in the hopes that by having them here the benefits will outweigh the expense. The majority in Ireland see the low corporation rate as something that needs to be protected and wouldn't see it as taking money from schools (though the sentiment is slightly shifting since the Apple Tax fiasco).

Teams in US sports are a business and it's up to the city, and their tax payers when it comes to a vote, to work out the positives and negatives and see is it worth keeping their team.

But clearly in a lot of cases the benefits were being completely overemphasized by these sports teams and also sports teams play on a love for their area and fans but still are happy enough to hold these people to ransom if it suits them.

The benefits of our corporation tax rate are quite obvious and everyone is aware that these companies don't give a fiddlers about Ireland and it's purely about good business for us and nothing else.

$600m out of the $1.2b coming from public money in Atlanta but to be fair, they are getting something pretty impressive if this is anything to go by.

Atlanta residents also paying towards the Braves new baseball team too so I hope the standard of their public services is up to scratch.

Small question for you guys. When watching NFL (and although not a noob I wouldn't be too aware of tactics etc) do the commentators and pundits used have the same sort of bias than say, the ones on Sky for English football?

Its just so I would take that into account when listening to their opinions? My feeling is that team loyalty is less in the NFL than say in English football but I could simply be wrong on that.
