Ps4 was €400 Xbox was €500 with connect(not optional) and game way the ps4 kinda came with resogun and something else as a plus game and I'm not sure about the Xbox one I only got one this year(one s) and regret it as it doesn't come close to the ps4 really, but that's another conversation

I was thinking of picking up a ps4 in April, I have a ps3 and 360 but never made the jump to the current offerings. I would agree with you that the ps4 would be the better option of the two. I'm sitting on the fence on the Switch myself, I only watched the launch a couple of hours ago. There are a few game I'd be looking forward to, Zelda in particular, Mario Odyssey and Xenoblade. The thing that concerned me was the range of games for 2017, It was fairly dissapointing but I'm hoping there will be more on offer in 2018. I'll probably pick one up at launch for Zelda alone, it looks amazing. The price of the Switch with Zelda will still be less than 400 euro, this makes it no more expensive than the PS4 of Xbox was at launch.

How much was the PS4 and Xbox on launch day and what games did they come with?

I paid about 440 for a PS4 with killzone in a bundle day one. I think it was that and Knack you had your choice of, 440.

    Wii U I paid 420 with ZombiU

Switch I'll pay €400 with Zelda... I'm happy with that personally as both zombiU and Killzone were a bit toss

And while some people feel the need to moan about Nintendo pricing controllers too high, PS3 controllers still cost 50+ euro brand new.

I think it's priced fairly reasonably. Seems people want their cake and to eat it too.

Good God if that's true. So much for getting slightly inferior PS4/XB1 ports.

I'm reading horrible stuff around the net and Reggie is spilling the usual manure out of his mouth.

Do you have a Wii U though? Do you think it's worth it for Zelda (releasing same day on Wii U) and a Mario Kart port a month later?

If you don't have a Wii U I say go for it but I don't think it's worth the upgrade if you have one.

That's where I'm coming from. If I don't have a Wii U I definitely buy at launch but don't think it's worth it cause I have a Wii U with Mario 3D world, Mario Kart 8, Splatoon and the Zelda game on march 3rd.

That's absolutely desperate if true, but it wouldn't be a complete surprise to me.

Is the switch actually any more powerful than the wii u? Playing mario kart 8 on the wiiu drops down to 30fps when playing multiplayer with three or four people. I read earlier that mario kart 8 deluxe or whatever its called on the switch does the exact same thing, surely if the switch was more powerful than the wii u it could manage higher frame rates for the same three year old game?

No I sold my Wii u because it's a ****box.

But regardless I'd buy the switch. Maybe it's because I'm just that person who buys everything but anyway.

I'm not sure where to start.

I know I have left myself open with that but this was at a time when both companies were launching their console side by side.

Ok, it was pricey at the time BUT they both received a healthy price reduction and some good value bundles. I didn't pick my PS4 up until the following year and got it for €329.99 with a couple of games.

Nintendo have had ample time to price their product accordingly to that of their rivals and they have failed miserably in my opinion.

I get that I'll be able to play experiences unlike those on PS4/Xbox One but the cost is far too high to justify a purchase right away.

Staggering details was just confusing and needless. They had the platform. They had my interest and the floor to themselves. A 90 minute presentation would have been the better idea so they can get into the nitty gritty of specs. Then show me the games.

It was a missed opportunity when it could have been absolutely knocked out of the park.

Finishing on Zelda was a good call obviously but my initial excitement faded when they didn't really reveal anything about specs considering the high price tag.

Maybe the Asian market isn't bothered about specs? I dunno.

Wanted to be an early adapter but I think I'll be coming to this late sadly.

It is? It's comparable in power to an Xbox 360 and has a library of games I can fit on a single shelf. Sorry, but I bought mine day one and it was years before it had a handful of games I was interested in. Yes I do buy all new consoles at launch because I am not pessimistic I was hopeful Nintendo could pull through but it was very clear when I spent little time on the Wii u it was not getting supported properly.

For the poster above you, no I don't think the Switch is dandy, I don't think anything right now bar I'm buying one and then I'll form my opinion. It has a steady lineup of games in the first year and assuming they don't all get delayed or cancelled that's 24 games in the first 9 months, I can deal with that. The Wii u had very little to interest me, splatoon I couldn't be arsed with and aside from the usual Mario games there wasn't enough to support the console. Don't bloody go off on one on me because I don't like Wii U  13 million worldwide sales, I was one of those sales and it was a huge disappointment.

The problem the switch has in comparison is that when the PS4 launched I didn't see a far more powerful console with a 3/4 year old library of games on the shelf next to it for a better price plus I don't need to buy memory either. For as much guff as it's getting here I am looking forward South Park, Spiderman, Horizon, Last of Us 2, Persona 5, Red Dead 2 & Mass Effect Andromeda which I'm entitled to be.
To me I'm looking at Zelda & Mario that will imo undoubtedly, definitely deliver but everything else shown is up for debate. Rayman, Skyrim, FIFA show me that this machine won't be running anything too taxing. It's disappointing even having never owned the system that they are leaning on WiiU games at all as Mario Kart should be special as it's one iteration a system & they should have said wait lets make Mario Kart Maker as to me it was a no brainer on a console with a touchscreen. They are trying to pull off a wii follow up hoping we forgot the WiiU, if any company can pull of a console by themselves it's Nintendo but I see warning signs of its recent past they could repeat.

Some of this Japanese live stream on now has been great. MK8 Deluxe Battle Mode looks like a tonne of fun. Still, there's an awful lot of talking in all segments, too much. Super Mario Odyssey is on at the minute. Or should I say more talking? Hopefully they show new footage.

I'm trying not to watch too much Zelda gameplay but it really does look amazing. Is there any word yet on backwards compatibility for Wii U digital games?

    It's not happening.

On the Switch Facebook page, Fast RMX is down for release in March. Whether that's accurate or not I've no idea. If it's anywhere near as good as Fast Racing Neo I'd be delighted, that game is amazing.

Have to say I'm really not feeling this, the whole conference felt very similar to the Wii U all over again for me.

It really seems like the Switch shouldn't be releasing yet, but Zelda is forcing their hand a bit. Wii U owners have been waiting for this Zelda for so long now, and of course Nintendo want to launch the Switch with BotW, but it feels like they're rushing the console out in order to release it with BotW because they can't withhold it from the Wii U any longer.

They've announced a load of third party partnerships but I get the impression not too many devs are all that confident in the Switch, they had almost nothing to announce at the conference, events likes of Square were fairly quiet.

The price is about what I'd expect, but until they announce a bundle it looks like you'll be paying about 420 quid for the system with one game and a pro controller(which I am shocked they haven't included with the system).

I'll probably see what the state of this is at Christmas, it's not an attractive prospect for me right now at all. Zelda looks fantastic but it's not enough to keep me going until Odyssey, which also looks great bar the weird Sonic 06 city level.

Yes. The Wii U has a different type of CPU and GPU then the Switch, games will have to be ported to the Switch to work.

So how realistic is it to expect to be able to buy wii u titles from some sort of digital store for the switch?

Not very likely. Considering they're porting Mario kart and some other later in the year (supposedly)

Is not remarkable the amount of non-forum regulars who seem to be posting with the only message that this isn't the console for them?

As for games making the journey from WiiU to Switch, I don't see why not, many of those titles were also on PC and other formats, so porting shouldn't be a problem really, especially if they are written to middleware, like Unity or Unreal.
We've seen discounts available to owners of games on one Nintendo format when it's released for another, no reason to think this won't persist.

Frankly, I can't wait to play Mario Kart 8 from scratch.

This yoke is gonna be amazing.

    Need a project plan.

Step 1: Book March 3rd off work.

March 3rd my birthday family members, friends and love ones have been informed and will be reminded regularly that game stop vouchers are most welcomed and should be delivered by Thursday 2nd.

Its the first time since the Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles NES package in 1990 to be out on March 3rd. Which was my first Nintendo.

I've never been a spec guided person to me its the games that matter and launch isn't that exciting but Zelda will keep me going till Mario Kart then Splatoon 2 then Super Mario Odyssey and what ever else may arise If I can get at least 6 killer games in the first year I'll be happy.

    Bugger
Seems confirmed that the WiiU pro controller won't work with the Switch
    https://mic.com/articles/165115/nintendo-switch-controller-options-compatibility-what-controllers-support-the-switch#.KMjY23GMd
I was hoping to save some money, being able to use my current controller with the new machine, especially with two player titles, dammit!

What more specs do we want? Screen size and resolution is out there, we have the computational power, it can be used to guess we'll have 30fps and we know the battery life.

Literally only the battery life was released yesterday, all the rest has been available for months, would have been wasted delving into specs yesterday. Anyone caring about anything more than battery life probably wouldn't have bought it regardless of what Ninty did.
