Means not a lot. Skyrocketed on news of mobile game, then sank, then pokemon go skyrocketed the share price, then it sank again. Sad that capitalist avarice plays any part of judging prospects of a game console. Investors smeshtors :)

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

I especially agree with this. I was thinking around €300-€320 including a game.
Price is way way off for me.

Nintendo is moving away from two notable features introduced with its previous round of hardware. David Young, Nintendo of America’s assistant manager of public relations, informed GamesBeat that Switch will not include Miiverse. "I can answer that we’re not going to be using Miiverse for Nintendo Switch," he said. Young also confirmed that StreetPass isn't planned for Switch. This is partially due to the fact that the system isn't truly a portable device like 3DS.

Zelda: BOTW will need 13.4 GB of hard drive space on the switch, nearly half of the 32 GB internal memory.

I take it that's only if you download it rather than play it from cart?

Sadly, touchscreen controls only work for experiences built around them
Take a classic game, or a game built for physical controls and shoehorn touchscreen controls in the package, it's a disaster.
Yes, you can use a Bluetooth controller, but the games are still relatively lightweight.
There has been relatively few seriously amazing games on phones, nothing like the numbers of titles appearing just since the 3DS debut, and with nothing like the complexity or depth.
Neither Sony or MS have managed to make a success of the handheld space, in the same way that Nokia, Tapwave, Gizmondo and others have failed in the past.

    Whatever you say.

Watching an IGN video about it, it sounds like it's even with the cart it will need it. Could be wrong.

Doubtful, surely it's all on the cart

Are there plans for Spotify / Netflix / Skype etc. for the Switch?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,090 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Just thinking about the online. Wonder if they have the apps ready to go or will it be a case of first on iPhone then later Android. Windows devices get nothing.
And hope for their sake their discounts are decent and not like 5% off a game you can get for half price at any time from amazon.

I don't get why so many people think it is practically nailed on that the system will have a price drop before Christmas. Correct me if I'm wrong but they didn't do that for the Wii U right? And that system was practically dead on arrival.

I know they did it for the 3DS but that is only one example.

I'm quite doubtful they even have plans for more games on this thing, never mind apps.

Seems GameSeek are honouring the £198.50 pre-order offer they launched when the console was rumoured to RRP at £199.99. I'm raging I didn't go through with it, literally had it in my cart and bailed at checkout!

    Hindsight is a wonderful thing....

They haven't announced it yet. But 3DS/Wii U both had youtube and Netflix and possibly Skype, so I'd expect it.

As a PC gamer this has been pretty much my PS4 experience. Even if the Switch flops at least I know I'll get some exclusives worth playing. Still play the WiiU more than my PS4.

Really? Bad move as it was insanely popular in japan and also it's popularity at conventions really helped push the 3DS in the west.

I just bought a Wii U a few months ago so knew exactly what I was getting into, and I have to say I bloody love the thing! but nothing would surprise me about Nintendo. The truth of the matter is they don't value the consumer and are a notoriously tight company. I'm sure they'll have your "bread & butter" apps but will they still be supporting this console in a couple of years when third party support is all but abandoned? I'm sceptical.

I'd say there were 3rd parties watching this presentation and the reactions before deciding what they're going to do.

And how many of the announced games will launch on time. They've already said Mario isn't ready for the floor, so we'll see. Nintendo announcing upcomng games and staggering them so they release throughout the year doesn't work if they're all going to be delayed. Were any of the big Wii U games not delayed? This is why they need the 3rd parties. Means instead of "Mario has been delayed so I've nothing to play on my console for another couple months at least" we get "Mario has been delayed but that's okay because I'll be busy play Red Dead 2"

I would actually bet Mario will get delayed till some time in 2018 " please understand"!

I'm not a fan of the look of Mario in any kind of "real world" setting if that's what it's going to be.

For all my negativity today I've 2 preordered from Smyths. I just think its a good way to go. The system plus a second controlled will be €400 then the missus will give out cause she cant use it(her or the kids)when I bring it to work, and finally I'll have 2 docks, one in the sitting room and one in the bedroom. Its a win win in my opinion. So there you go folks order 2 switches its the smart thing to do.
Plus I've always wanted to play multiplayer splatoon with the missus and it doesn't do split screen so this is the only way.

So we should all accept that we're being fleeced for a console that includes no game in the bundle and accessories that are priced way too high?

    Nonsense.

I've an Xbox and a PS4 and I'm lucky to do so but why should I be expected to pay upwards of €400 for a console that includes no game?

With Scorpio due out later in the year, consumers are likely to take that 400 quid and save it for that instead and to be honest, I don't blame them.

I was hyped beyond belief for the Switch and it looked for all the world that Nintendo had learned from their mistakes but having seen that presentation, I can't help but feel deflated.

The price point is all wrong and turned me off instantly. Yeah, Zelda looks great and I'm looking forward to the new Mario but paying that amount of money right now makes no sense to me until they drop the price in a big way.

How much was the PS4 and Xbox on launch day and what games did they come with?

    Ps4 was €400 Xbox was €500 with connect(not optional)

The paid online multiplayer is another kick in the balls. At least on the ps4 and Xbox you get some decent games along with it, but Nintendo decided that they'll lend you a 25 year old game for a few weeks and then take it away forcing you to buy it if you want to continue playing it. Their stinginess is unreal.

I have a feeling the switch isn't going to do a whole lot better than the wii u. Fool me once...
