Yes, he said it at the sod-turning of the New Ross bypass.

But in May last year, TII denied there were any plans for that. Ie: it was all electioneering:

That tonnage is about 4% of the national total. Combined total of Bantry and Drogheda - not what'd come to mind as major - is higher! Dublin, Shannon/Foynes and Cork are the dominant freight ports.

Hence why Dublin, Shannon/Foynes and Cork are regarded as TEN-T Core maritime ports by the EU and require motorway/high class road access, and the Limerick-Foynes and M28 schemes are being advanced. There are no plans for motorway access to Rosslare port as part of the TEN-T Core network.

He can agree what he likes with TII but when he's in opposition he can't allocate any cash for his projects.

In my mind, the motorway should be extended to at least as far as the Wexford Ring Road - Rosslare however wouldn't justify anything more than Type 2 Dual.

They're forever on about expansion plans for Rosslare, nothing ever happens though. The latest plan seems to be cruise liners.God knows why they'd stop there, certainly won't be using the N11 anyway. https://www.google.ie/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=9&ved=0ahUKEwja--uCg7jRAhXkBcAKHblYBZUQFggyMAg&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.wexfordecho.ie%2F2016%2F12%2F07%2Frosslare-to-welcome-ships-for-free%2F&usg=AFQjCNFdLAkDgYylFE72ovcqpAk8c66LQA

why would Cruise Liners dock in Rosslare? Wexford Town is pleasant enough, could medium size liners dock at the quay there?

    It's a shallow harbour.

    Cruise Liners.
Every declining port's last straw that they grasp.
    Dun Laoghaire's at it too.
Staffords will be suggesting it next.

MOD: I know I took this slightly OT but Wexford/Rosslare ports and what they can handle are definately OT for a discussion on the M11 Gorey/Enniscorthy thread.

Can we get back to topic please, if a discussion on the viability of Rosslare port is needed can we take it to the appropriate forum

It takes very little to cause a tailback in Oylegate. Anyone stopping in Camolin has plenty of places to pull in. In Oylegate there's 2. I think we are missing the point of a major infrastructure project terminating just short of a village when at the other side if it there's a nice wide road. Our most high profile TD down here promised that wouldn't happen before he got elected and not a peep out of him since.

I've been commuting from Enniscorthy to Wexford and back twice daily for over twenty years and have very rarely seen any tailback in Oylegate. Apart from the drop in speed limit to 50kph for the approx kilometre of traffic calming there is no significant or even minor disruption in Oylegate during morning & evening commute times. Even on summer Saturdays with the arrival of both Uk and French ferries offloading loads of tourist traffic the traffic flow is maintained in Oylegate before coming to a complete stop in Enniscorthy.

I think there is an good argument that the route could have been future proofed and, long term, the added upfront costs of extending the M11 project a further 5kms south now would be less than an addition to it in 15 or 20 years. However that ship has sailed and construction work is already advanced past the point where an Oylegate extension could begin without writing off significant planning and preliminary earthwork costs.

I think rather than Oylegate the future issue in the short term after the M11 Enniscorthy bypass is completed will be further south at Ferrycarrig Hill/bridge and at the N11/N25 roundabout which experiences significant tailbacks at peak times at present. That area has numerous junctions exiting on to the N11 and some badly designed climbing and mainline lanes merging at junctions.

That section of road near Wexford is a nightmare at peak times and you are right about the climbing lanes, the one Northbound from Ferrycarrig will someday see a pileup.Only by sheer luck at times crashes have been avoided.

Back on topic, the proposed road closure on the Marshalstown road hasn't happened yet. There isn't even a sign of a man in a visi vest let alone a digger there since before Christmas.

Yes, the New Ross Road Roundabout can be quite busy. It would only take a relatively small increase in traffic at peak times for tailbacks at the junction to become quite common. I wonder how much it would cost to do Oylegate-N25 junction, it would involve a new bridge and a GSJ at that roundabout .

There's a row of those big orange/red excavators still parked up at Scarwalsh.
They were working lower down though yesterday.

Work is back on between the Ballyorril Rd. and the Marshalstown Rd. Saw machinery working there earlier.

It's a pity they keep using the same pictures in the newsletter, the picture of the N30 section would be completely different now as it's about 15 feet higher than when the original picture was taken.

Drone footage up on the enniscorthy bypass facebook page.

Work on part of the N30 stretch is halted due to protests by locals over new boundaries and lack of plans for a wall or type of fence at one property on that part of the bypass. It's on the front page of the Enniscorthy Echo.

There are other threads to talk about other projects, and other funding.
