The coaching seminary , why the Christ have the last two being situated in Ballygunner? Would it not be easier to have it in the middle of the county?

Senior Hurling Championship Semi finals take place 2morrow In Walsh Park

    Passage vs Dungarvan- 1.30
    Ballygunner vs Mount Sion- 3.15

final will be on Sunday 23rd Oct and the winners will then play the tipp champions in the Munster QF in Thurles (Thurles Sarsfields or Kiladangan) on Sunday 30th Oct and then possibly a week later 6th Nov against the Clare champions (Clonlara or Ballyea) in the Munster semi final.

If Mount sion or Ballygunner win the county then they would be after playing 8 weeks in a row (after the munster semi final if they get too that) but cant see any Waterford side beat Thurles Sars in the own back yard

Clubs never ever play any round of the league / championship without their county players. Its run around the kilkenny intercounty calendar.

The 1st round is normally always 2nd/3rd week of April
2nd and 3rd round is the 2nd and 3rd week in May
Then there is a break until the 4th round which goes ahead the 2nd week in July (always the week after the Leinster final)

Then another break where the 5th round gets played the week after the All-Ireland Senior semi final, normally 3rd week in August.

Then the league finals and championship 1st round goes ahead a week or 2 after the All Ireland final and then QTR-final, semi and final every 2 weeks after that.

Clubs never play without their county players. If Kilkenny get knocked out and go the qualifier route there will be a forced change to the club programme but that has rarely happened thus far.

Cats make a mockery of nonsense that afflicts Dublin and other counties. We have league and under 21 finals at Christmas!

Dublin used to be the same. I remember seeing Keaveny and Driscoll and Mullins playing for Vinnies week before Dublin were in Leinster final. More chance of being injured in training ffs!

The incident which occurred at the Western semi final last night frankly has no place in the GAA and hopefully the relevant authorities will see it as such. It still didn't take from a great game in testing conditions and Modeligo will be a huge threat in this very competitive championship yet.
Looking forward to today's senior semi finals,on paper Ballygunner will start as favourites but the first game could be too close to call.

Cracking finish to the first semi final . Fair play to Passage back in a final again. They will be hard to beat.

yeah sounded like a cracker. is it true if the semi ended in a draw than it would be a replay and not extra time ??

going to be a cracker of a final anyway either a local derby Ballygunner vs Passage or an Eoin Kelly grudge match Mount Sion vs Passage. Pity there will be a limited buildup to it with the tight schedule

Wind not helping but exciting to watch from a neutral point of view. Yes would have been a replay next weekend and delayed the county final by a week. Can see this second game having an edge to it . Plenty of cards no doubt

    Ballygunner win 1-18-0-11

going to be a good final against passage next sunday with Ballygunner out for revenge against them for the late 2013 final defeat

That ends Aussie Gleesons fantastic year and no doubt he will be back in Jan better than ever

Modeligo manager hit a brickeys player with a bottle while play was in progress near him. Was immediately sent to the stand having first being levelled by a brickey's player. A meeting has been called for tonight to deal with the incident.

Exciting stuff to be fair it was anyone's to win in the last 5 mins.Dungarvan should have had at least 3 goals in the first half and I can't say about the disputed Paddy Curran effort that was hotly debated whether in fact it was a goal as I couldn't see from where I was seated. Noel Connors did a marvellous man marking job on Curran,in fact I thought it was a thing of beauty to witness it up close how he put the shackles on Dungarvan's danger man. Passage were dogged, their never say die attitude even when down to 14 players for 3/4 of the game has to be commended. In fact for a moment in the second half it looked like they were going to be reduced to 13 after the ref consulted his linesman for an off the ball on Darragh Lyons but then seemed to change his mind. Can I see them beating Ballygunner? I doubt it but it won't be as one sided as people thought coming from the ground afterwards.

Same , I have no idea if it was a goal or not but I thought passage deserved the win overall. It wouldn't be the first time they turned over the gunners . Patrick Curran must have been sick of the sight of connors, he was glued to him all day.
Second game wasn't much of a contest at all. Mount Sion done well to get to a semi final with that team . Lots of whispers today about players being asked up to training with the county panel for next year and existing squad players leaving but probably just the usual rumours

From where i was sitting I was certain it was a goal but appearances can be deceptive..thought Passage were deserving winners overall and their greater spirit won through in the end, they played over half the game with 14 men so Dungarvan can have no complaints really. 2nd match was over at half time gunners much too good

Definitely a goal from Patrick Curran today. Dunno how umpires missed it

Who is Modeliho manager. If true a big ban should follow

It was an absolute disgrace to throw a water bottle at an opposition player as he was about to strike a ball on the run. The individual is the trainer from Cork. He may go back to his own county with that sort of carry on as there is no place for it in this county. He was rightly levelled by a brickie player afterwards as another poster alluded to

I thought the same but the video showed that it came back off the bar. Passage free at the end was about a foot over the line though!

Have heard Modeligo were disgusted by it aswell and the club committee had a meeting after the game about it. Wouldn't be surprised if he was asked to step aside. But he brought them to a county final last year and back into the west final this year, so big call.
Unfair to point out the Cork aspect of it, some of the east cork coaches that have taken on West Waterford club sides over the past few years raised the bar in terms of coaching and winning mentality. Our club sides are a lot stronger and more competitive in the club championships. This guy just seems to be a bit of a head-banger

Why not play the county junior A hurling final as the curtain raiser to the Senior on the Sunday instead of an eastern junior B semi final ???

County finals are due to be played in Fraher this year. Senior only in Walsh Park as no Western team in it.

Its a joke that there is such delays in the championship. Too much hold ups for senior training weekends

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,230 ✭✭✭seananigans

Theres an article today a lad in Monaghnan is forming a club players assocaition as the GPA is not looking after them.

Can only see this happening and the 2 amalgamating later, but would be no harm to redo the championship more evenly.

I'd like to see fewer replays, and more weekends with matches on multiple days fri - sun to allow for more guaranteed weekends for club action ,can only be a good thing

Are there no other pitches in the county? The surface at Fraher Field is not fit for purpose. The fixture pile up and the tendency to play most games at the Fraher Field can mean only one thing. The Boards have lost their way.

Next years championships must not be compressed into a few weeks. It is time to stand up to county team managers. It is time to play more matches outside of Fraher Field also.
