^^ Great game, totally worth it.

FYI Google Allo is now officially available in Ireland.

(Edward Snowden says don't use it, but it seems very cool) :)

    Google Allo

The word "Selfie" appeared on the screen, asking me to make a profile picture.

I pressed the home button and uninstalled the thing immediately :pac: :D

Or you could have pressed the "Skip" button.

    *shrug*

I didn't have time to notice a skip button.
Seeing my pre 9am face appear in front of me, gave me the shock of my life :D

Ah, I'm just kidding dude, I'll boot it up later on and check it out :)

Is Allo not just another Whatsapp style app?

My problem with this is having all these apps installed on the phone simultaneously, I have a OnePlus 3 and Hangouts & Messenger(Google) are pre-installed with only the option to disable them so unless i root my phone I'm stuck with them.
I know most people might not care but it annoys me having 2 or 3 apps that basically do the same thing, I would prefer to just have Allo and use that for SMS & IM/Video calls.
Also agree that it should support tablets & web but I think they're keeping that for Hangouts atm since they're switching that to a business focused app.

Google Trips has just launched. Looks like a brilliant app for travelers.

Looks good alright but its a pity you can't manually add reservation details. I've a trip coming up in a few weeks but since I booked through a travel agent I don't have any of the original booking confirmation emails for it to process.

You can't manually add a reservation to Google Trips which renders it useless IMO.

I've a trip in December which it picked up from hotel bookings in Gmail but missed the flight details. I can't add them.

I was able to get it to find my flights by sending myself an email with the following template (I've put in dummy details below - use your real flight numbers, times, destination & airport codes etc.):
    Flight EI000 - Fri 23 Sept 2016
    Departs: Cork (ORK) 13:00
    Arrives: London/Heathrow (LHR) 13:10
    Status: A/Economy Class CONFIRMED
    Operated By: Aer Lingus

    Flight EI999 - Fri 30 Sept 2016
    Departs: London/Heathrow (LHR) 15:30
    Arrives: Cork (ORK) 15:40
    Status: A/Economy Class CONFIRMED
    Operated By: Aer Lingus

I also had a subject of "Booking Confirmation" in case thats relevant and it took a few hours for it to show up in the app. A bit ridiculous that we'd have to do this but as a one off it seems to work.

Agenda Widget http://www.androidagendawidget.com/ from the Play Store is superb. Uses Google Calendar & Tasks. It's very customisable & the widget can be made full page.

Might take a while to get it exactly as you want but then it works really well.

I found Month to be a great little calendar app.

The Assistant, doodle on picture and send location are pretty cool features but why couldn't Google just have rolled these and the new Duo video stuff into hangouts? Hangouts worked perfectly on phone, tablet and desktop and handled both my web and SMS messages. Now, 3 separate apps are needed and none work from a desktop :(

Edward Snowden has chimed in on Allo and its not in any way positive.

    http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/gadgets-and-tech/news/google-allo-should-be-deleted-and-never-used-says-edward-snowden-a7320861.html

I really don't like the idea of everything I type being linked to my phone number and kept by Google to help "Google assistant".

I have actual booking emails from the airlines with "Booking Confirmation" in the subject line. I'll keep using Tripit.

On closer inspection Google Trips is a joke, bordering on the kind of spamware you get if you search for the name of a city in the Play Store.

Even if it could find my flights and accommodation in my Gmail (it cant) I still wouldn't trust it and would end up checking the email myself, really shoddy. I clicked on "Places to Eat" in my Paris trip and it gives me some copy and pasted crap about French cuisine with spelling and grammar errors, no recommendations, nothing. Feels like something an IT student rushed out as a class project tbh.

Same. Put in where you want to go, allow location permission and browse nearby restaurants and things to do. It works really well.

I imagine if you have tickets, flights and reservations stored in email, it will be even more useful.

And you can't add them. If Tripit misses a booking you can manually add it by forwarding the email.

Why doesn't it just let you tap in the flight numbers?

    Hi all
I'm looking for a simple reminder app that has an alarm or a popup notification for events
    Thanks

Just use the Google calendar, there are many apps and widgets that integrate with it. Myself I use acalendar+ as it comes with acal+ tasks and had a decent widget

I set a reminder on Google now using my voice. One of the commands that normally works very well.

It's built into Google. Say "OK Google" to launch Google Search/Now or whatever it's currently called. Then: "remind me to xxx at 2.30 on whenever". Save and you're done.

You'll have to train it to recognise your voice first which takes about 10 seconds.

Or if you don't like talking to your phone you can type it into Google now.

I've been using any.do for 2 years and it works great.

Don't worry about the subscription - the free version works perfectly.

I've been playing Final Fantasy Brave Exvius (This is impossible to spell off-hand) and was pleasantly surprised to find it fun!
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.square_enix.android_googleplay.FFBEWW

I'm assuming that it is going to get pretty pay-2-win eventually, but I'm happy enough with it for now.
    • Randomly summoning heroes from all the other FF games and making a team.
    • Typical mobile rpg affair with "Auto" button for grinding through fights that are easy.
    • Can fine tune for a harder fight, with repeat to mimic actions from previous turn.
    • Item forging, item synthesis, ability creation to get that material grinder within you going.
    • Loads of hidden goodies in exploration zones. Touchscreen makes exploration slightly finicky but it works well enough.
    • Decent story so far.
    • Animated Espers (traditional summons from the games).

Lots going on, way more than I have listed. Probably too much. Worth a shot anyway if you are into FF games.
