    Hun
    hʌn/
    noun
    noun: Hun; plural noun: Huns
    1.
a member of a warlike Asiatic nomadic people who invaded and ravaged Europe in the 4th–5th centuries.
    2.
    informalderogatory
a German (especially during the First and Second World Wars).
    Germans collectively.
    noun: the Hun
"millions of boys were eager to go and fight the Hun"

    Fenian
    ˈfiːnɪən/
    noun
    noun: Fenian; plural noun: Fenians
    1.
a member of the Irish Republican Brotherhood, a 19th-century revolutionary nationalist organization among the Irish in the US and Ireland. The Fenians staged an unsuccessful revolt in Ireland in 1867 and were responsible for isolated revolutionary acts against the British until the early 20th century, when they were gradually eclipsed by the IRA.
    2.
    offensive
(chiefly in Northern Ireland) a derogatory term for a Catholic or Irish nationalist.

Only one of the two terms is secterian in nature.

Although I agree that at this stage as Hun is now perceived to be secterian it should be dropped but it's worth pointing out that the origin of the term Hun was a reference to the lads destroying all around them in Europe.

    hun
derogatory word for german or protestant, esp in Northern ireland.

Yet Thd Foggy Dew refers to Britaniac Huns so it is defenitately seen as sectarian in nature nowadays no matter what excuses are made. Many words have had their meaning changed over the years this is one. And as I said it still doesn't excuse the KAH banned or the sectarian chants of DOB
Simply it's time both sets of supporters got their acts together

Hold on here a second, The Foggy Dew is not a sectarian song. The line; "While Brittania's huns with their great big guns
Sailed in through the foggy dew."
is a reference to the marauding huns coming to attack the rebels and the use of the word hun is to rhyme with guns.

Is The Foggy Dew going to end up on the "prescribed" list because it has that line? Ridiculous.

I just took the first definitions Google spots out, wouldn't have known the term Hun had any historical connection with religion.
Where did you find that definition?

Hun is against the charter here regardless of its etymology. Giving out about posters in other threads is not acceptable regardless, if you see anyone using it report the posts and they'll be carded/banned don't post in here as it only serves to derail the thread and encourage the kind of car crash it has become the last few days by the looks of it. The same goes for any abusive term used to wind up or annoy supporters of any team on this forum.

As for the state of this thread, the thread is for discussing soccer not etymology, sectarianism or posters in other threads. That line of conversation ends now. The thread is alos not a place for fans of rival teams to come in and have a good laugh at this team's expense, this rule goes for literally every team's superthread on the forum before anyone gets their knickers in a twist about their "bants" being curtailed", if you don't like that rule find another forum. This is not the first time this has been stated on here.

Joey Barton has been on Talksport this morning.

Apparently he's going to have talks with Warburton on Monday.

Is this the end of Barton?

He'd be a big loss, good player.

Rangers were overrun Saturday and don't think it's fair to pin it all on him. He had little support in midfield and calamitous defending behind him.

I'll be delighted if he's frozen out.

He said in his statement that he said something inappropriate in the heat of the moment.
Rumours are, and I stress only rumour is that what he said was "My son is older than this club"
I have my doubts, but would be hilarious if true. And it is Barton so I wouldn't be surprised. :pac:

    Doubt so.

It seems now that it was nothing more than some verbals right after the loss, pretty understandable given what happened. They'll probably talk it out and he'll be back soon enough.

That said, he shouldn't be put in the squad right away, not because of this but because his performances have been sub par.

Nothing would surprise me with him, he has a sharp tongue and knows how to get under people's skin.

If he had said that he would be put the door. Of course he can get under people's skin.

And he's currently out the door but he'd have a field day if they tried to cancel his contract over that. We'll never get the full story though.

What do the rangers fans here think of Barton generally? I only saw him in the Celtic game and on that evidence i dont see what he offers to the team. Would ye be bothered if he was to leave?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,553 ✭✭✭✭Dempsey

Seems the Rangers dressing room is sanitized when it comes to drubbings by Celtic. Players would be f ing and blinding at a loss like that when the old club was in the SPL etc.

Id like to hear what is considered a send home for rest of the week offence after a humiliating defeat

Honestly at the moment no. I realise there is a player in there somewhere and if he starts showing it great

Again you are being presumptuous you have no clue what was said or what happened

It's been widely reported that he he had a huge row with Halliday, Warburton tried to step in and Barton had a go at him (verbally).

Reminiscent of Sandaza not being as good as the club thought he would be and being forced out early.

Although it seems Joey has gotten ahead of things by apologising etc.

Agree. It appears to have been a spat about the performance and result last weekend between Barton and Hally from what I have read. Warburton was a peacemaker and nothing more. Arguments like this happen all the time at football clubs but they tend to be kept in-house. They'll sit down next Monday, talk things through and he'll be back for the next game, I suspect.

Can't wait for the game tomorrow. We can put the game and the issues from last weekend to one side and get back to talking about football!

Try reading my post properly. I said id like to hear what was said to get a suspension like that when you've just been thumped 5-1.

Going on Warburtons comments after the game about the media being depressing, id be leaning towards the idea that some key people at Rangers dont understand the importance of the fixture or they dont have the stomach for it.

Remember that Barton was playing at a higher level than Rangers has for the last 4-5 years and one of the best playerd in the championship last season. I find it hard to believe he has declined that severely in 4 months. I imagine his frustration is born out of the sheer number of sub standard players around him during training and matches.

I don't like Barton... He's up there with Terry, Suarez, Barry and Duncan Ferguson and Di Canio as being players I verge on hating.
But anyone who seen him play last year surely can't doubt his ability to play football. Going by last years form, he has the ability to be a boss in this league... But he's surrounded by muck.

Now we are getting somewhere. I believe he has declined badly for two reasons he was unfit when he arrived at us after spending all his time after the season ended at the Euros junket. It's been plain to see since he arrived. Secondly he underestimated what would happen here and Scottish football in general. If you have read thx "stories" then you will also see some accused him of bullying youth players if he has then he is a dick. Imo no one will no what happened for a while if ever.

I'd agree there, he looks like one of the long list of players that came to Scotland thinking it would be easy. He is a good player but has never played for a team where every game was must win and some players don't see to have the mentality for that.

It's early days for him but getting into trouble like this isn't a great start

It's only speculation alright but chill!

I dont think he's in physical decline yet. Poor preseason is not the same thing. I think we can agree that he came upto Scotland expecting to sail through games but Rangers have been found wanting aswell. I think everyone expected him to be more dominant in midfield but I think he's been scapegoated for poor performances by other players and tactics by the manager aswell as his poor form

I imagine there is alot of stories that follow him around that are a rehash of previous incidents.

Id be very surprised if he doesnt show last seasons form if he gets a run of games together tbh

Do Rangers fans in general want him out of the first team squad already?

I can only speak for thosecIvinow and partly for what I am reading on forums. The majority don't some do but then again some never wanted him in the first place. A lot are angry he is mouthing off on Twitter and feel it should have been kept in house.

More than that, Barton himself said that he had a go at Warburton. But Head in the Sand FC is going swimmingly, no problems there at all. It's all Timmy speculation 😂😂😂

Again you are talking pish you say reminiscent of Sandaza so were you privy to what Barton said to Warburton or vice versa. I guess the answer would be a big no sostopwith the head in the sand 2012 stuff. You are nothing but a trouble maker it has been made clear this is a football thread. Have you actually ever posted about a game in here
