It's a psychological gene, a self perpetuating element but instead of being made of physical matter, a chemical key that is replicated according to the rules of inheritance and hence the engine of the evolutionary process, along with resource exploitation (just like No Man's Sky), the meme (sounds like gene) does exactly the same thing but it's a concept, not something concrete, owing it's existence entirely to the processes of our psyche, and our interpretation of the world around us.
When a meme successfully exploits a feature of the world we live in, as social creatures, it survives by being replicated and repeated, same evolution as it gains a foothold in the minds of those exposed to it and stays there as long as it is not out-competed by another, more successful one.

    Or something like that

Case and point I think when a meme, a frog on a unicycle with a thug life quote, gets more "thanks" than my explanation of a meme.

How have you not seen that already?
Was on UKvac and Jammaplus a few weeks ago. Sad story about the owner though.
Least the cabs will see new life.

What's the story with Amazon UK Lightning Deals, & their start times? I'm looking at something here that's only available to "watch", with a start time of 5.14pm (90 mins ago). I thought the listed deals were only for a given day, & don't extend to the next day?

It's listed on the 'Upcoming' tab on the app though, and is showing in stock outside of the flash deals page so don't think it's a stock issue. There's a few other items listed that have start times from hours ago

Look about half way down the page, the likes of Lego City Undercover etc have times from hours ago, but haven't actually started yet - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/deals/ref=gbps_ftr_s-3_8647_page_2?gb_f_GB-SUPPLE=page:2,sortOrder:BY_SCORE,enforcedCategories:300703,dealsPerPage:32&pf_rd_p=981978647&pf_rd_s=slot-3&pf_rd_t=701&pf_rd_i=gb_main&pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_r=T5TJ6A0CX6P72BMXV19E

Are they only listed there to generate interest in, & will go live at those times tomorrow?

Dont see that deal there. Not sure about how they work as the only time i used them was during the Prime day sales.

    **** high level coding languages.

I've spent ages debugging polygon collision code before I realised gamemaker's stupid scripting language treats a false Boolean as 0.

So when you have code looking for false meaning no collision can occur or the distance before a collsion (0 meaning a collision is already happening) you have lots of wasted time :(

Classic shmups are coming to PS4 (hopefully PC as well). First up is Battle Garegga and Dangun Feveron.

    And the porting company... M2

Excuse me while I blow my load over this:

Ooh that is good news! Hopefully there'll be more games released and they'll be decent ports (including options to turn off those side panels!). Will be interesting to see pricing on them also.

Will have to go research what arcade sticks (if any) are compatible with the PS4.

What's the fuss, Battle Garegga is already on Saturn and in tate mode :)

It's M2 so I'm sure there's a wealth of options and you can turn those side bars off.

So, remember a week ago when I complained over no one trying to do something to make light gun games work on modern TV's? Well...

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 53,356 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

Hmm... It's still using a sensor bar arrangement which just isn't accurate enough unless you calibrate it properly. They can go out of calibration just by moving a bit.

I guess there's preservation first and then accuracy.

It's kind of annoying to see so many efforts to preserve scan line and correct line aspect ratio in games but what seems like zero for light guns.

As we stand now, once CRTs all die we won't be able to play Time Crisis, Duck Hunt, Point Blank and everything else. Which makes me sad!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,729 ✭✭✭The Last Bandit

We'll still be able to play 'Rise of the robots'. Which makes everyone sad !

    No more Virtua Cop 2?!?
That's not a world I want to live in :(
One would hope that emulation will save the day, with the lightgun function replaced with a gun replica that's little more than a mouse pointer.
Another reason to own a metric ton of CRTs!

I would say that CRT tech is ridiculously robust, with most televisions being recycled and dumped being perfectly serviceable, with only the non-issue of missing remotes and cracked plastic fascia arising.
A replacement remote and a bit of Sugru and those problems just melt away.

Doesn't look too bad at all retr0. Looking at the video description I must read up on vector collision. Sounds interesting. :)

Also, have you seen there's a Humble GameMaker Bundle on offer at the minute? https://www.humblebundle.com/gamemaker-bundle

Looks good value compared to the Pro's current price on Steam.

Nothing on iOS looks right to me. :pac:
But it's probably no harm Nintendo getting their IP into the mobile market in some shape.
