'Film buff' and 'foodie' also make me want to remove my ears with a cheese grater.

    Yep, that one gets me.

In fairness, I'm a foodie. I eat at least 2-3 times a day and not all the same type of food.

    Oh crud.

Think I may be going a bit mad.

After 21 years since I refused a college place in the sciences I'm now going for it as a mature student.

    White coat here I come

There was this great piece on Vice Gaming a while back, which is just the perfect, definitive demolishing of GG's grotesque hypocrisies and idiocy.

I don't mind those. TBF, don't know anyone who calls themselves a foodie and the only person I call a movie buff is my dad, but I can totally understand them annoying you or any other terms. Pass the grater this way when people use girl gamer or otaku.
It reminds me of if you ever say you like to draw "oh you're an artist? Draw me a picture". Ah sure, each to their own.

No way! That's great news! I often meet people in work that say it's too late so I'll be saying that to them, maybe they might get inspired :).
I hope it all goes well for you, keep me updated.

Well, I've described myself as a gamer for decades now.
It's certainly better than some of the more derogatory terms I've been called, working in a place where most of the staff were into sports and drink, back when I was more interested in Sega and Nintendo.
Film buff, when did that become a bad thing?
A person who enjoys film and knows a lot about it...
Foodie, a food buff, same thing.
It's not an attempt to pigeon hole or stereotype anybody, it's just a way, for me at least, to be describe what one of my primary interests is and how important it is to me.
I paint, but I find it difficult to call myself a painter or, heaven forbid, an artist. If asked, I say I like to paint, but I do love it as a past time and it plays an important part in who I am now. I think my reluctance to call myself either is from my lack of training and the frankly amateur nature of my work, so in that regard I am more comfortable just saying "I paint".
I won't do similar with games, saying "I play videogames", rather it means more than just that, I collect, I've an interest in the history, the interesting (to me at least) tales of travelling to pick something up and so on.

I'm surprised to read that, wouldn't say your pieces are amateur at all. I don't think you need any training, even with it there's always a learning curve as you're making things. I'd hope to be half as good as you some day (and I probably would of I kept at it, I got disheartened a few times over the years).
To me someone that expresses themselves through art is enough to say you're an artist. Although I wouldn't be jumping to call myself one either even though I feel it's such a part of myself but wouldn't refuse it if I was called one.
Once I'm not called too early in the morning I don't mind what I'm called tbf jkjk.

You're not real gamer unless you dress like a gamer.

Great stuff, I'll try get you something for your study, like a nice pen or something if I see it, my bestie is just starting a course too, looking for something nice for them.
I'm starting a short course in October myself and doing SAFE talk on Wednesday. (It's free if anyone was thinking about it, it's 1 day, about 4 hours)
If it ever gets a bit much and you need a pep talk lemme know, I wish someone had done it for me instead of the "just get on with it" attitude.

Although I'm not overly amazed at Sonic Mania so far, the Collector's Edition for North America looks pretty cool.

I had it up on the Sonic Mania thread, raging it's not coming the EU. sniper_samurai said there was a discount with prime I think. I'm far too lazy to find it though but it's in Gaming General.

It's $90 (Canadian dollars) on Amazon.ca if anyone wants me to ship over a copy. Postage from Canada is slow and expensive though.

I was trying to order a takeaway the other night and my credit card was declined. Thought this was odd, so tried to buy something on ebay, declined again.

Freaking out at this stage (and really bloody hungry!) I rang the bank to ask wtf was going on and it turns out my card was frozen due to apparent 'fraudulent activity'

So we went through every transaction and got to the fraudulent one, for the almighty sum of a dollar.

    Humble Bundle.

I had to confirm that I was going to take responsibility for this $1 transaction and that they wouldn't be held responsible if it did actually turn out to be fraud.

So yep folks, be careful when ordering Humble Bundle offers, especially if you're hungry and about to order a takeaway :D

I bought a Surface Pro 4 using my card the other week, no probs. Bought a 10 euro thing on eBay, card locked and had to ring to get it sorted :0/

Had to do the exact same thing a week or 2 ago.

One thing it may have been though is my old card expired recently, i wonder of it was the same for you guys?

Please send me all your credit card details so I can confirm! :p :pac:

Common enough, $1 transaction was/is often used to test the viability of stolen cards so banks are slowly wising up to this...
