If only he'd done better in the fencing he'd have had a medal nearly. Cracking effort though, especially with the shooting!

Am I right to say we finished higher than Britain for Natalya and Arthur? Did Britain have anyone? Don't recall seeing any. BBC didn't seem to even mention the event.

Next to no black athletes in this event. Can't recall seeing many in any Olympic pentathlon.

For some reason there are very few black swimmers at the Olympics and next to black people on Equestrian events.

That combined race is fun to watch.

Didn't they win the combined event (as in Natalya and Arthur) in the past few years? If only that was in the Olympics.

An interesting 4 years ahead for the Modern Pentathlon.

8th overall compared to 25th in London.

    Great achievement.

11 seconds off a medal for Arthur! Tokyo!!

This is weird, the graphic on RTE just showed him at 8th with 1457(?) points, but the rio site has him on 1446 points.

Apparently GB has huge funding and tonight would be considered a disaster for them.

Looks like we should be doing everything to support pentathlon for the next four years.

    What age is Natalya btw?

Choong was in second at the start wasn't he, seemed to collapse at the first shooting.

I was going off the rio 2016 site which has him at 11th https://www.rio2016.com/en/modern-pentathlon-mens-combined-running-shooting I would imagine it'd be the official site but I'm not really sure..

No think that was Natalya and the Eanna chap who was commenting.

Great to see the passion the two specialist commentators have for their sport.

It doesn't add up. The events in Pentathlon you would think would produce real British talent. Fantastic that Ireland are up and above that standard.

    she's 25, he's 24. Google is great!

So young enough to have another good go at this?

Definitely, Arthur was a junior in London!

I hope they get the increased funding they're looking for now. Seems an event you have to give up practically your whole life for, probably the hardest working athletes of them all I'd wager.

The pentathlon lad on RTE saying 'we need more people in this sport' - that's grand, where do i join? Is it in that booth beside the synchronised diving, or down the street between the artistic gymnastics and Olympic handball?

Definitely! You'd think they'd be even better at 29 and 28 than they are now, no reason for them to slow down at all :)

This event is probably best suited to late 20s. The two of them may have their best years ahead of them. Men's winner a few years older than Arthur.

Yes, a Team GB athlete with big funding not even going top 10 is something of an embarrassment.

Hopefully we start pumping some money into this sport and increase the grants : Natalya and Arthur were close to medalling there.

and this time in 4 years, we'll all have forgotten about how fantastic Modern Penthatlon is and we'll also have forgotten all the rules of all the games :D

I know you're not being serious, but for anyone that is, go to www.pentathlon.ie ;)
