    Great clear round for Natalya.

Any idea how that affects her standing?

Did people actually openly criticise it though? I recall reading a few articles in the papers saying it was a "surprise" decision, but I don't remember them having a go at Robert Splaine for it or that there was "controversy" over it. It's not as if Splaine was pulling a rabbit out the hat here, as Broderick had made his case with recent form. Not saying there wasn't criticism, I may have missed it, but wouldn't be out of character here for people to start jumping out of the woodwork after the event. Thankless task that Ireland manager's job I reckon.

I remember reading a few articles questioning it and I wouldn't follow the sport closely

There was, quite a lot. I feel sorry for Greg Broderick having to deal with it now, it wasn't his selection - but I feel worse for O'Connor & especially Allen for not getting to compete. We should have been watching them in the final today

Depends how last 6 or 7 do, it's in descending order so in the lead currently. I've no idea what it means for her though, is she strong in the last event?

Yes and in the show jumping

Just read that article - not sure the part about not qualifying a team makes sense. We would more than likely have had a team there if it were not for that ridiculous incident in Aachen with the steward running across O'Connor's path

Has Coyle jumped? Nothing coming up in results and RTE player just showing a netball or volleyball match

There were definitely articles at the time talking of unease and disquiet in Ireland over the decision and the fact that Allen was passed over in favour of a much lower ranked rider. It didn't help of course that Broderick was virtually out of the competition in Rio after his very first round, that was disappointing stuff.

Top 2 seem to have a good lead, 3rd up for grabs.

She will start the run/shooting 44 secs behind the leader and 15 secs behind 3rd

Watching rythematic (sp?) gymnastics. Is this really a sport?

Also, one of a few women-only events at the games. Are there any men only events?

A google trawl reveals nothing much anyway. Interesting that the Facebook website mentioned had a piece in early June saying a decision was imminent and then when the decision was made, it made no acknowledgement of it, it's not even mentioned on their Facebook timeline. I find that really odd.

Obviously it was a brave decision, at the least, from Splaine and maybe a foolhardy one. I just didn't see any showjumping pieces, from John Tynan or anyone else, opening questioning or criticising it at the time, but if others saw them, then I acknowledge they were there.

There's a thread in the equestrian forum with a few links iirc

Usually a competitor will cover it in 12-14 mins. Say 20 mins all told

Ah yeah, I did search the Irish Field archive and found just one article that just quoted some stuff off social media, otherwise their coverage seems to have been entirely neutral or reasonably positive. Anyway, it's no biggie at all, just something I was a little curious about!
