Hear hear, I second that motion. Gaffney's do a lovely pint, the guiness is like sipping velvet :)

I've never had the pleasure of Gaffneys and all the time I lived on Distillery Road (and going to the PLAYERS!)

Nice little pup with a decent smoking area out back with screens. Bit of a hidden gem.

But it's not even hidden. It's pretty blatant on the Strand.

Just had words with one of the lads. I think this injustice might be rectified tomorrow.

Gaffneys a bit of a hidden gem? It's right across the road from Fairview Park FFS ! ;)

Not a fan of gaffney's at all, I have boycotted the place because years ago a barman with bushy eyebrows stopped serving me in a near empty pub just for leaning on a ledge!!! To my surprise I was told I was barred all of a sudden!

I was watching a bit of a soccer match there was literally one man and his dog there. The dog was asleep and showed no interest in the match but was allowed to stay.....
The real annoying bit that got me was that Ian Dempsey happened to pop in and the barman was practically begging him to stay, free pint offered and all! (He didn't.... stay) :D

I think it was Gemany v Ireland Steve Staunton was manager at the time.

Anyway, I have maintained my mini protest ever since and every time I pass there after a Dubs match it reminds me of my stance.

I would rather go to the players lounge to have a pint then Gaffney's, and that's burnt down!

    :D:D:D

Is that fella with the massive bushy eyebrows still there, or did he trim them or what?

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Can someone give a few good pub recommendations near to Croke Park? It's looking like I'm going to be in Dublin with some time to spare on Saturday, so I might get a pint or two in before the match!

Meagher's has a decent pint and an auld fella section as well.

Smyth's is nicer pub though and you can see the plague that mentions mayo's all-ireland wins, with big lumps of tipex adding in recent u21 all-ireland wins...

there should be some sort of ccc appeals process for unfair barrings.
get off on an eyebrow technicality or something.

No idea. I've only ever been in there once, on a non match day, when I was waiting on my car to be repaired at the Ford rip off merchants garage down on East Wall Rd. Brian Mullins was sitting in the corner, reading the paper. One death glare from him, was all it took to make me think twice, about engaging in any "Ah, howaya Brian, is it yerself" banter. Haven't been back since. :(

    He is, you're still barred.
A pub is no place for sledging.

Just after 9 I'd say .. if yer waiting on the team to start I'd wait til 5.55pm tamarra

I concur with the good doctor. I'll be paying much more attention to the dulcet tones of Jerry Grogan at 5.55pm tomorrow, than I will to the Twitter machine tonight.

Excellent, I might even venture in myself for a swift 3/4 before the game.

Smyth's is closed at the moment. It was bought out by that Brú brewery and they're renovating it.

    Team named for tomorrow

Still not convinced James McCarthy is gonna start.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,370 ✭✭✭GAAman

I say it'll be a case of seeing how the warm up goes and how confident he feels.

Be good to see a phased return anyway so be primed for (hopefully) later matches

Yep. Am fully expecting at least 2 changes by throw in.

Just checked the Sky telly listings for tomorrow. The Mayo/Tyrone game is on SS3 from 15.30 to 17.45. Then there is Dublin v Donegal from 17.45 to 18.30. Then there is Preseason With The Hurricanes (rugby) listed from 6.30 'till 20.00. I'm presuming it's just a cock up with the Guide listings, (I'm with Eir,) but be careful if yiz are setting your telly boxes to record the game.

Well I reckon I could be in there for about 130. I'll be wearing my 1995 jersey surrounded by Tyrone lads. :)

This is a potential banana skin tomorrow. I'm not looking forward to it. Jersey ironed and ready to go.:D

Yeah it's not sitting right with me either - I'm thinking that Lowndes will start in place of McCarthy, Bastic for MDM (detailed on Murphy) and Paddy A in for Kev Mc. I honestly think that playing positions are irrelevant against a packed defence and it boils down to a numbers game in our half when we're defending, there'll be very few 1v1 matchups

I have two Hill16 tickets that I am looking to swap for either a pair of hogan or cusack stand tickets. Send me a pm if interested!

It's a game for Andrews alright. He's turned into a proper big game player and more defensive than any forward we have .

    Kevin Mc from the bench.

Might give this place a go so. I have a few hours on my hands though tomorrow, so I might end up in all the places suggested, even the place with the ****ty basement!

Ah, it's hard to go wrong with Meaghers, if only because it has both a chipper & an off license next door. I've fond memories from 2011, when a batter burger & a bottle of Moet champagne magically appeared in my hands, with zero effort on my part. We headed there after the game, as we (stupidly) thought Sam might show up. It was (is?) Tony Hanahoe's local & it was usually where Sam made his first public appearance after an AI win. Or so I was told.

Ah....dem were de days....when we poor eegit Dubs didn't have a bulls notion of what to with ourselves after an AI win. May those dark days never return !

    Yes, I've had a few. Shurrup... ;)

Frequented it many times back in the dark days. Drinking cans out in the back carpark with the sun blaring down. Was always great craic in fairness.
