Thinking of getting one of these with enigma 2 built in, are they any good compared to a dreambox or zgemma?

Sure where's the fun in getting one already set up? I knew nothing before I got this box seven months ago and while it's a great hobby box for learning it won't give the functionality of a Sky box for example and it's prone to be a bit buggy. Personally, I like it because of the learning curve, but it can be a frustration at times. The spec on the other boxes you mention would be far better but they're also more expensive. I wouldn't recommend this box if you want something that's going to be easily set up and needs little maintenance. If you enjoy tinkering around a bit, it's great.

I've have no problem setting up myself, have flashed enigma 2 boxes made channel list etc on them. Was just wondering how these compared, would be buying more so for the android side of it. Have a mxq box at the moment but find it very slow.

Can anyone know what the addon is called to enable you to use the up/down buttons to scroll the channels on pbnigma.

Found the plugin, it's called virtual zap. Works well apart from when scrolling though the channels the channels info stays on the channel you are viewing. Chabs has contacted the developer really this so hopefully updated soon. Link below:

Anyone have any problems with getting Tommys guide, |I can't login to the wetek, keeps telling me the password is wrong, tried powerboard and power board?

Use username as root and password as powerboard, leave port blank.

Honest question for anyone who has this set up, has anyone used either enigma or openlec consistently without issues for tv etc?

For me pbnigma works flawlessly for watching TV. Openelec used to alway freeze, not sure if this is still the case. The only issue with pbnigma is that recording will not work if watching kodi. There is a kodi direct plugin but it's not ideal.

My kids use it for kids channels and it may glitch the odd time but they dont seem to notice!

I would use Kodi often on it and dont notice much difference in playback compared to my Minix.

The worst thing about it is the record and playback in Enigma anyways it is bruttle!! To me this is the main reason it couldnt replace a Sky box.

The below is a quote from the pbnigma thread on how to get 16.1 working on the 5.3 image

Tommy have you tried this out. Need to downgrade from kodi 17 and don't fancy starting from scratch if it can be avoided.

Afraid not, I never bother with kodi on this box as have a separate Rpi setup for that.
Take a backup img of your mSD card and then if anything goes wrong then just restore the backup and your back to exact same setup as before your went tinkering with it :)

    Hi,

Recently had pbnigma (5.1) image freeze during load screen. Nothing could be done so I had to rebuild. Rebuilt with 5.3, and looks lovely. However its using Kodi 16.1 and I am having trouble with playing HD movies through Kodi. Never had this trouble before, but I get a black screen and perfect audio from my home server. My hardware acceleration options is just amlogic and no others in expert mode. Any ideas ? It worked perfect before with the older pbnigma image. I would like to try and fix it before I re build with an old image.

Hmm, nuked Kodis settings and in Acceleration in Render a grayed out auto appeared and black screen is no more.

Render previously was blank and I couldn't change anything

Yeah I always try to keep a backup image of the msd.

Used the backup option in powerboard centre also this time. During the setup wizard on the new image(downgrade to kodi 16.1) it recognised there was a backup on the hdd and asked if I wanted to restore it. Worked quite well. No need to do a channel scan. All I needed to ftp was the sky q skin and autobotiques . When I installed autobouquet all setting were as before. All other plugins installed from the backup. Saved a good bit of time.

I think it would be a good idea for the OP to post the link to TommyChairs guide in the original post.

It would answer 90% of peoples questions and people wouldnt have to search through 80-90 pages to find a setup guide

I am following Tommychairs guide, however I'm having trouble FTPing to the box.

    In the guide it says:

"The default FTP username is admin and default password is powerboard from v5.3 the new default password is power board"

I have tried both of these, but it says "Login Incorrect"

    Any ideas?

I tried root, openelec and got the following response on Filezilla:

    Status: Connecting to 192.168.1.155:21...
Status: Connection established, waiting for welcome message...
Status: Insecure server, it does not support FTP over TLS.
    Command: USER root
Response: 331 Please specify the password.
    Command: PASS ********
    Response: 500 OOPS: priv_sock_get_result
Error: Critical error: Could not connect to server

What version of PB are you using? I had hassle with crashes with 5.1 but now on 5.3 and it is fine.

    I was on 5.1.
Checked the site and there is a nand version and a sdcard version. Does anyone now if there is much of a difference between the two versions, is there any benefit to installing on nand
