"We have to be able to criticize bad ideas. Islam, at this moment, is the mother lode of bad ideas" - Sam Harris at 2:11 of his debate with Ben Affleck below.

Shamed into appearing and now referring to 'radical Islamists '

Only on now because she was called out by O'Reilly, she's talking about Iraq now despite the fact that if you look those attacks on French soil 90% plus were carried out by those born in France.

Found myself watching one of the videos of people laying in the street. The carnage isn't what got me, it was the loved ones laying beside the victims, howling. I'm not a religious man, but god help those poor people.

I think its time for Russia and America to bury the differences they have and take out Isis for good. This can't be allowed to continue.

US ended a war by dropping an atomic bomb on innocent people of Japan, kids, women, men didn't matter to US back then. They done it and ended a war.
the problem is that these scumbags go into civilian areas to stop thwart drone strikes etc... If it was as simple as then having Isisland with a flag, dropping a Nuke on them mightn't be a bad idea...

The conspiracy brain in my head asks why didn't they do similar attacks during the Euros?

Jeez that is frightening. Many times I have walked that promenade. Nice is such a lovely town.

If Mr Trump doesn't get the gig in the U.S. he would get a lot of support for the next French president.

Like I said earlier in this thread, Putins power and standing increased tonight

When he slaps the Turks down in the next few weeks what will Germany do? Nothing

    He's not afraid of NATO

    The EU will crumble

Security may have eased off a little after the Euro's passed off without incident. Also I think they specifically targeted Bastille Day for symbolic reasons. It would be like hitting the States on the 4th of July.

I think there's a lot more to people being on the scratch (what's French equivalent?) with zero prospects of ever getting employment than saying it's 100% religion based. Ghettos of young men with feck all to do listening to other elders waffling about beliefs and ideals is more to do with it. If you look at the 6 counties when jobs and prosperity came it did more for peace than any talks or government crackdowns.

True, angry young men with poor prospects and religion is not a good mix. And both apply here and in the North during the troubles.
But this seems to be far more virulent. On a different scale and nature altogether.

I thought they were all just the same video, didn't realise he was making all comments through various youtube videos. A little better but not by much.

A truck of that size would go through most if not all road blocks even with police shooting at it, if it was general media coverage they wanted sending a truck through an area with French or whatever fans were top of their "#Dislike" list would have made massive coverage.

I'm trying to bring balance. There's no getting away from it; the guy is absolutely spot on, because then he says this:

"There are hundreds of millions of Muslims who are nominal Muslims, who don't take the faith seriously, who don't want to kill apostates, who are horrified by ISIS, and we need to defend these people, prop them up, and let them reform their lives."

That's the answer, in my opinion.

Gonna be honest, I took a shot. Didn't watch the videos, have seen the Maher/Affleck one before and assumed the others were basically the same, but different times. Maybe they are all the exact same, which would make it even worse!

Europe, Africa & the middle east actually got off lightly during the historical Islamic conquests compared to the Muslim invasions of India.

Usually traffic would be closed to roads with people on them. Like on St Patricks day. You should not be able to get close, should be stopped streets away.

That thought occurred to me too.

The picture of a little girl lying dead on the street with her toy next to her is something I don't think I will be able to get out of my mind for quite some time now.

Absolutely dreadful stuff, RIP to those whom died.

I actually happen to come down more on the Maher/Harris side of things, but I just find posting videos without adding your own perspective lazy.

I have already mentioned how crucial I think nominal, and moderate to progressive Muslims will be to stopping the Global Jihad of the extremists.

There is a lot of hate, mistrust and darkness on both sides (extremism cuts both ways), as there is with all conflict. Finding a way to reconcile is not going to be easy.

The world is in the ****ter and the signs are not good, I don't have all the answers obviously, I do know that perpetuating the same **** over and over again is not working.

People are killing people because of religion. Come on now! and nothing extreme about me. I just find all these belief systems totally absurd considering Santa Clause is more plausible than any God... and there's many Gods people believe in.

Don't know the layout of the situation as in road closures but if you are driving a big arctic lorry a few barriers are not going to prove much of a deterrent lets be honest.
