That could very well be pileus cloud.

    Well captured.

    From google AI :

A pileus cloud, also known as a scarf cloud or cap cloud, is a smooth, horizontal, lens-shaped cloud that appears above a cumulus or cumulonimbus cloud, often forming a "cap" on the larger cloud. These short-lived clouds are a sign that the underlying cloud is experiencing strong updrafts and rapidly growing.

Lots going on both to my North and south… The mountains of North Connemara are doing their best to act as a storm shield for my location though! Constant rumbling from all directions but as yet no rainfall.

What a superb picture, really well done. I was in west Laois just an hour ago, some very impressive formations in all westerly directions on the horizon. Serious activity in Galway/Mayo now, sadly i doubt any of it will form in the midlands

Driving back from Ballina to Galway just now, ran into the middle of a major downpour, had to pull in as zero visibility. Intense hail and the odd flash. Don't understand how other folks kept driving. Ballina agricultural show in full swing, storm might just miss them as it's heading NW.

They're some thunderstorms in the West my God! A pity those areas are so unpopulated, we'd be hearing a lot more if they hit Galway City or God forbid Dublin.

My house (near lecarrow, Roscommon) is where the production line starts, feeding the storms into West Roscommon and mayo. The clouds are absolutely exploding in height and we're getting the odd faint rumble as they move on their way

It’ll be another waste of heat if nothing fires off elsewhere later! As is usually the case.

We just never seem to get a hot day followed by an explosion of CB clouds after darkness anymore. Been years since I’ve seen that up here in NI. I moved to this house 8 years ago and haven’t seen a single nighttime storm.

This is producing thunder now, just out Castlerea, coming from roscommon direction

I am sitting in the garden close to Kilmovee and I can hear a lot of rumbling south west of me now. Very distant. It’s a constant growl. I feel like I am in Kansas with the hot breeze blowing, sun splitting the rocks and big black storm clouds on the horizon. Regarding photo attached can someone explain the two layers of cloud? Looks epic anyway.

Thunder is constant but not that loud. Would the lightning be very high up?

Great pic , that is some storm. Looks like a storm to the SE of you heading towards your direction, producing very heavy rain, maybe hail.

I would think in the pic you are seeing a line of lower Cumulus and the large Cumulonimbus ( storm ) and above it is a layer of cirrus stratus and the Cb is just breaking through the Cs .

Left Lisdoonvarna at 1.30pm, sun shining.

Arrived In Carraroe Connemara to grey skies and cooler temperatures.

Just Passed Ma'am Cross and this is the sky - see photo

Haven't hit rain or thunder yet!

Heading to Westport so hopefully will meet some action!

Could be or just that bit far away from you. On the lightning charts a lot of it showing up as cloud to cloud lightning but a good few cloud to ground strikes also.

Impressive returns from Mayo and West Roscommon. The cold front is well defined through Limerick and Cork.
