The PS4 generation also happened more than 12 years ago, before skyrocketing semiconductor prices / shortages, the weak yen, ever-extending development cycles, major inflation etc… Just because the performance might be similiar doesn't mean that's the only factor that should be taken into account, or that development costs have stayed static even in a well-managed company such as Nintendo. Also games tend to be more costly at console launch as that's when there's a smaller user base and therefore a lower ceiling for initail revenue - though at least Nintendo games have proven to have a much longer tail.

Of course we'd all much rather games be cheaper, and of course Nintendo will continue to make a profit (that is why they exist as a going concern, as much as I'd love them to be a non-profit dedicated to creating joyful video games). But games will inevitably cost more as time goes on - it's not realistic to expect base prices to stay at the same level eternally. Though I do continue to wish digital prices reflected the decreased overhead, and I hope that smaller-scale games at a lower price point continue to exist even on first party release slates.

BOTW and TOTK are getting Switch 2 enhanced versions. It will have improved frame rates, resolution and use HDR.

Metroid Prime 4 will have a Switch 2 version. It will run in either Quality Mode(60FPS HDR 4K) or Performance Mode(1080P 120FPS HDR).

Switch 2 is getting Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition in 2025.

NSO Expansion Pack will be getting GameCube games. Wind Waker, Soul Calibur II, F-Zero GX are some of the titles.

Launches the same day as Switch 2. New wireless GameCube controller launches the same day, 5th June.

Last 3rd party game was Duskbloods by From Software. Coming in 2026.

A new Kirby game. Some sort of racer? No. Kirby: Air Riders. Remake of the GameCube game, Kirby Air Ride.

Well look at this. A new Donkey Kong game, and it looks great.

You can see why Nintendo have waited so long to roll this out - build up the software library and hit it out of the park.

Truly a spectacular console announcement.
