Most, Switch 1 games will just work - no upgrades needed.

Fair play to Nintendo - they get the need for big tent pole exclusives on launch.

The whole thing leaves me slightly cold though. We’re (like many) a multi console household. Series X and Switch original.

Maybe 2026 changes my mind but at those prices I’ve no urge to get in early.

Charging for next gen versions of games Ive already paid €60 plus quid for just doesn’t do it for me.

I mean I'd pay for more Kirby but the Zelda games look like marginal upgrades.

The Switch was a massive success but I think you might be right that the switch 2 gets off to a slow start. I expected the 3DS to be a shoe-in but the launch was a disaster which Nintendo eventually recovered from but it wasn't assured either.

More good news is Joy-cons and Pro Controler from Switch 1 are compatible with Switch 2, so no need to rush out to buy second or third controllers unless you really want that 'C' button on everything :P

I can't see any deal for this in the first 18 months. Looking at the requirements to preorder on Nintendo direct I'd guess that supply will be extremely limited.

Could have swore I heard (paraphrasing) "We will keep new Switch price reasonable compared to competitors as per Nintendo policy" somewhere in a direct presentation in the last 12 months.

Anyway it costs what it costs and it looks excellent. I'll wait to hear how others review it here and take it from there.

Looking at the price again I don't think Nintendo are actually pricing the Switch against PlayStation or Xbox but rather the Steam Deck and other PC type handhelds.

Generally, but they've announced some games are getting a free patch for Switch 2 presumably to boost performance since a lot of these had framerate issues.

Pretty sure I meet all the pre-sale invitation criteria but nothing yet. Did you have to register your interest or is it just you get the email if the magical Nintendo algorithm likes your stats?

I've no idea really. I didn't think I would meet the criteria because my play time has been tiny on the switch over the last year.

That doesn't mean I haven't bought digital games though, they've all just gone to the backlog. Maybe my kids racked up the hours for me.

I have had NSO since it launched though, maybe that got me through.
