Please also keep in mind that children in SPHE were told to not tell their parents anything about what goes on in that class as their parents are old fuddy duddy's and *phobes.

i missed this the first time around. i have a bridge i would like to sell to you.

A feck up??? If so who fecked up, who commissioned it, and why are they still employed by the dept of Education???

Secondly the SPHE curriculum still contains anti-male bias training, basically another misandsrist tome under the misnomer of "gender based violence". We are teaching kids that boys&men=bad and girls are always victims and so far there is no pushback on this. I suppose thats just another feck up?

The rise in transgenderism - are you serious. Its all we've been hearing about for the last 10 years. It literally is mainstream, but it was a fringe element before. "Trannies in Thailand" was about the only thing most people knew of it pre the crash of 2008. Almost as if it was artificially created and pushed…

but if you want stats all you have to do is use google trends

    https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?date=all&q=transgender&hl=en

Oh and I never said post op children, I meant post op any age, which is very low since complications with the "surgery" leave patients with permanent damage and they often kill themseles because of this.

So you you have no stats to back up your claims? And fyi, transgender people have been around for far far longer than the past 10 years.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,115 ✭✭✭purifol0

The claim that transgerder people commit suicide at an extremely high rate is a meme at this stage, and while its true that there were transexuals long before there were transgenders, they werent in the public eye every single day in every MSM outlet. For the last ten years they have been, kinda weird huh…

"In 2022, around 80 percent of transgender people in the United States had considered suicide, while around 40 percent had attempted suicide" - USA DoH

The 40% memes are grossly offensive and I wont link it, but 4chan et al have spread it for years.

Your whole post demanding proof of common knowledge is a sad indictment that you absolutely do not want to have an honest conversation about this topic.

Well, we have three pre teens and questioning at home started ages ago...😵‍💫.

There's a higher suicide rate in general for LGBT people. It's general due to things like being heavily discriminated against, being targeted for abuse and being rejected by friends or family. It's well studied. Also forcing somebody to closet part of their identity would do it.

    That does sound unlikely indeed.

That said though - as a parent I have instilled in my children from a very early age that if an adult tells them not to tell anybody else what that adult is saying/doing then they should leave the situation immediately and come right home and tell us. Especially if it's the parents they want to keep the information from.

And if that involves a teacher in school they should feel entirely ok with getting up out of their desk, leaving the school, coming home, and telling me what was said or done. I have made it clear to them I will protect them from any repercussions from that behaviour.

While there might be some few "false positives" with this approach I think it is generally safe to assume that any adult doing or saying anything to my child with the caveat of "Do not tell your parents about this" - is up to entirely no good. And I have instilled in my child that this is a "Danger Signal" and they need to leave.

On top of all that though I reckon my approach to sexual education with my children means that my kids knew as much as - if not more - about sex topics by age 6 and younger than most kids learn from any school curriculum by age 12.

Have to say, I cannot understand the concept of critical thinking and how it might differ from normal thinking. Maybe because I grew up in a housing estate, I learned early not to smell someone's bum just because they told me to. In case anyone doesn't know this was a classic trick where someone farted on the sniffer 😅

Adults talking about critical thinking baffles me, it's like someone bragging about looking left and right before crossing the road or driving with their eyes open.

    Just on this..

No-one denies that they were "limited" as you call it and are now out and free to live their lives, and good on them!

However, equally others have the right NOT to have this freedom constantly pushed in their face, or made feel obliged to actively advocate for and support it through work/school-sponsored events or iniatives etc.

If true equality is the goal then everyone (regardless of sexuality) should just get on with living their lives without fanfare or attention-seeking. Personally I've always been of the belief that someone's sex life is no-one's business except their own and the person(s) they're involved with. It would be great if this "look at me" attitude died off with the previous stigmas too.

Yet we have countless examples on a daily basis on this site of people failing to think critically. E.g. the poster who seemingly believed the tale they were told that kids doing SPHE were told not to discuss the content with their parents.

'I know how to think critically therefore critical thinking is not something that should be taught' shows an amusing lack of critical thinking.

Society will not attain harmony in this area until bedroom preferences are seen for what they are in truth: irrelevant to all but the people involved directly.

Various influential movements exist to keep this tiresome, unnecessary war alive; and most of them march under a rainbow flag.

No one cares, keep it to yourself, you will be fine.

I find it irksome that time is wasted on this highly politicised, Hitler Youthesque nonsense at a time when kids are turning up at third level with woeful literacy skills.

Timely reminder that someone's gender identity is seperate from their sexual orientation and/or biological sex.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,280 ✭✭✭TaurenDruid

Yeah, but as they say, common sense isn't all that common. The number of people who will believe anything they're told or read is incredible. Case in point, hundreds of people standing on O'Connell Street a couple of weeks ago waiting for a non-existent Hallowe'en parade. Or the thousands of people just in Ireland who refused covid vaccines, because 5G.

Fwiw, I did a section on critical thinking in university. It was was about as useful as stating that water is wet. You would have to be incredibly sheltered to not have someone tease you etc. that no critical thinking developed as a child.

For old fogies like me, I find it hard to call a biological man a woman. I expect it'd be a lot easier for old timers if there was a new pronoun. One of the kids friends was self identifying as a girl for a while and that seemed to be fine so maybe it'll be easier for the next generation.

For me it's like being told a cat is a dog because it would be hurtful to say otherwise.

I doubt that is the intent and for parents with trans curious/ genuinely trans children, I guess all we can do is support with patience and love.

    Indeed.

I clearly remember my own daughter starting to ask me lots of questions about the differences between boys and girls and specifically, what "a homosexual" was, when she was eight.

No it wouldn't. They'd just scoff at it, or refuse to use it, like what happens now.

Speaking of cats. I heard today that a local school has a girl who identifies as a cat , collar and bell included and is catered to in her beliefs . Meanwhile a girl with 2 ear studs was told to remove 1 of them.

Since when are we teaching animals in our schools?

Such complete nonsense. Why do people feel compelled to pass on something they know is absolutely false

How do you know it's false?

I've friends whose children are in the school. It's exactly as described

Of course it's false. I don't believe a bit of it. And if your friends did tell you that story, it was purely for your reaction! Taking the P

Hilarious that you accuse me of not wanting an honest conversation about the topic when you spout meme trends as facts!

There is a massive leap between “40% of transgender people have attempted suicide” to “Children are being actively encouraged to be anything but straight, and thanks to blanket social shaming, adults are now afraid to tell their kids that they are making a mistake by buying into it, sometimes with tragic results (suicide) usually from irreversible surgery.” Sticking in your own narrative onto stats does not make what you are saying even remotely accurate.

    False you say ?

Ridiculous yes - but it is sadly far from false.
