Here at Dunshaughlin we've had drizzle/mist during the 'dry' interludes, back to heavy rain now again after a night of deluges.

After a wet night and murky morning it’s turned into a sunny and breezy day

The one thing no prolonged hard weather or cold winds this winter in Kerry so very little burnt grass about, lots of rain overnight, standing water in fields this morning and locks of water on the roads which have become very cut up over the winter and especially last couple of weeks, dodging potholes again lately.

Feels very mild and that bit humid this morning, heavy rain on the way to work.

It's been brutal. We did have a few good days in February but overall it's been an awful Spring. All we can hope is that April is a much better month

We've had an awful autumn, an awful winter and an awful spring in Cork. I know of Spanish students seriously considering moving back to Spain because they just can't hack these conditions. Its endless.

That said, MEs orange warning was out of all proportion in Cork - although when they announced it, the model runs looks dreadful, but subsequent ones were not so bad.

At the moment one or two sunny days would be nice, but even those just aren't materialising.

Clearly they had high tides and Midleton in mind. Terrified of getting that wrong. But you then get a needless orange (even yellow seemed unnecessary looking out the window - figures may have justified it though) which plays into warning fatigue in the long term. I'd say they are sorry they ever brought in a colour coded warning system....

Big differences in the monthly rainfall data up to and including March 13th. The northwest is fairing best so far.

    Valentia, Kerry (99.1mm)

    Phoenix Park, Dublin (76.8mm)

    Mullingar, Westmeath (51.4mm)

    Belmullet, Mayo (25.4mm)

    Malin Head, Donegal (16.1mm)

Wow we have sun shining in Dublin. A respite from the relentless grey skies these last few months.

Another awful day in wexford. It seems like we can't go for more than a few hours without rain these days.

We were 17mm a couple of days ago but 40mm now.

By the way as I ask almost every month. What's the highest IMT for a March ever? 9c ?? This month approaching 7c currently and with a week a mild weather coming it will be over 8c then around 21st could even be warm so what does that do. A dramatic cool down could happen at the end though so may not get record.

    Very interesting

Is that to do with the wind direction?

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,892 ✭✭✭pauldry

Ya we won't beat that. But top 5 warmest Marches entirely possible as the majority of months are in the top 5 ever warmest we barely bat an eyelid though I had to be impressed by the CET in February being 4c ABOVE normal.

A bit of spring in it today :)

1st dry day in a long time. Ground still soaking wet of course but great to finally see the sun make an appearance in what seems like the first time this March.

Turned into a nice day. Back to rubbish for tomorrow.

I checked the models a couple of days ago and it had high pressure parked on top of us. That’s gone now but still influence from the Azores high pushing up at times but nothing great.

GFS has a dusting in the south for March 24th. Just 9 days away ha

Do you know what time is the rubbish due on the east coast tomorrow?

Everything so wet but hallelujah for this day. Great breeze for drying and enjoying the brighter conditions.

During the morning looks like, then remaining wet for the rest of the day. The joys.

Deluded in thinking I could get the grass cut today, the back garden is like a swamp. It will be ages before it dries out.

I also haven't managed to cut the grass yet. No chance this afternoon would be enough to dry out the swamp and even the 4 nice days we had a week or so ago weren't enough.

It's lovely to have a dry bright afternoon, though, but feeling very chilly.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 16,733 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gonzo

We need a prolonged spell of dry weather to have any sort of big impact on the highly saturated and waterlogged grounds. We need a week without any rain at the very minimum.

I'm hoping that during the summer we get at least a month of dry weather with barely a drop of rain, that would do it.

Getting back to the present the models are looking slightly dryer over the next 2 weeks but we've been here before recently only for the deluges to break through instead with high pressure very flimsy.

Red sky in the morning, Shepherd's warning at Portmarnock this morning.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 11,839 Mod ✭✭✭✭Meteorite58

Fabulous sryanbruen, nice picture to wake up to, It's like a Turner painting . No such sky here in Kerry, grey overcast and light rain atm, hopefully clear some bit for a while in the afternoon .

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,102 ✭✭✭Kutebride

Definitely rings true @sryanbruen Spilling rain here at Parkrun. Everyone in their green for the weekend, now hidden with rain jackets.

Most GAA pitches closed; so kids GAA training off since last night from all the rain, not to mention this morning lol

Yesterday evening was lovely and such a taste of what could be.

Best day of the year yesterday. Blue sky and some Sun. Everyone I met was in great form. Unfortunately back to rain this morning.

  • Registered Users Posts: 905 ✭✭✭KanyeSouthEast

And even at that it was only an ok day in the sense that it was bright and dry and not raining but not exactly a beautiful spring day. Meanwhile it’s raining again now.

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,070 ✭✭✭✭Oscar Bravo
