It's dirty and nasty and sums the rossies up to a tee.

The CCCC have issued a one-match ban to Cathal Heneghan for this incident involving Jason Foley. Heneghan was not cited for a stamp. They deemed the contact to be "a lesser offence". That's an absolute joke. What's going on?

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,103 ✭✭✭✭bucketybuck

GAA really is a nasty little organisation. Its players are trained to be as snide and underhand as they can, and even when something extreme happens it just gets swept under the carpet.

That was beyond a stamp, coming down on the ankle like he did was pure scum and could have done real, serious damage. But of course the GAA just want to effectively ignore it.

Roscommon relegated from Div 1 it seems.

Typical yoyo team. Not good enough to stay in Div 1, but will most likely come back up after a season on Div 2.

  • Registered Users Posts: 28 SYMETAL

They are pretty much safe in Div 1. Which is what they wanted from this league campaign.

Roscommon and Monaghan will go down.

It has caused serious damage, unless the ankle injury is not related to the alleged stamp. He played on for five minutes before being taken off.

Kerry star to miss Munster Championship through injury following alleged stamp incident

    Mark Donlon

    20/03/2024

Kerry have been dealt a blow with the news that defender Jason Foley is likely to miss the Munster Championship with an ankle injury. The Ballydonoghue clubman hobbled off in the second half of the Kingdom’s six-point win over Roscommon in last weekend’s National League Division 1 clash at Dr Hyde Park.

It's on the same time as Kerry v Galway (potentially relevant for final qualification &/or relegation, depending on other results at the time) in Division 1.

Don't remember if any Division 3 games got coverage at all last year. Was actually surprised (& delighted) to see this one was being covered.

  • Registered Users Posts: 20,498 ✭✭✭✭dxhound2005

The Division One games are starting at 13:45, 15 minutes ahead of Division 3. So it would make no sense to not cover a game at 13:45 live. Clare are live in the hurling v Tipp, before the deferred coverage of the Down game. The times for all games were fixed last December.

The Division 2 games are at 19:00 on Saturday. TG4 is showing Kildare v Louth. RTE 2 is wall to wall rugby on Saturday.

Round 7 according to RTE. Like every year, a lot of permutations to be resolved.

    League Finals:

If it is like last year when Cavan v Fermanagh started at 7.15 pm, it will be a late Saturday night for whoever emerges at the top of Division 3. But they already had the extra hour of daylight in 2023, so this year might be earlier?

Armagh and Donegal from Division 2 are the only pairing confirmed for Sunday. The GAA will be hoping for Dublin to be in the Division 1 final. And it could be the same pairing as the Division 2 final in 2023, Dublin v Derry. I wonder how often that has happened.

    Saturday 30th March

Allianz National League Finals Division 3 & 4

    Sunday 31st March

Allianz National League Finals Division 1 & 2

Compared to previous years there doesn't appear to be much drama in store for the last day of the league.

The Div 1 final looks to be straight forward with Dublin to play Derry in the final next Sunday. (Could we get a repeat of that game in the AI final this summer?)

Hard to see anything but a defeat for Roscommon away to Derry even if Derry rest a few players, so that means they'll join Monaghan in Div 2 next year.

Donegal,Armagh already into the Div 2 final. Kildare down and looks like Fermanagh will join them.

Clare has outside chance of gaining promotion to Div 2 but it should be Down,Westmeath.

A lot of teams on 8 points in Div 4 but a win for Longford and they get promotion with Laois.

  • Registered Users Posts: 20,498 ✭✭✭✭dxhound2005

If it works out like that, Westmeath will have a League Final Saturday 30th against Down. On Sunday 7th April, they play Wicklow in Leinster. Win that, and they play Kildare on the 14th. That would see them playing five weekends in a row. But of course they can't sacrifice promotion just for a better chance at Leinster.

Same for Longford and Wexford if either have a League Final against Laois. Longford play Meath on the 7th, with the winners playing Dublin on the 14th. Wexford play Carlow on the 7th, with the winners playing Louth on the 14th. If Leitrim are in the Final, they have Sligo on the 7th in Connacht, but the winners have a two week break after that. Mayo have cleverly avoided the Division 1 Final, to give full concentration to their clash with New York on the 7th.

Is there any other sporting organization more against actually playing games as ours?

Constant bwllyaching about tight schedules, short turnaround times, too many games etc.... We've managed to turn the best competition in intercounty into an inconvenience because teams may have to play on successive Sundays. It's a cod, toning isn't ideal granted, but play the fvckin games and enjoy them.

Seems all we want to do, media anyway, is talk about Kerry, Dublin and Mayo and

Louth retain Div 2 status. Result Kildare 0-12 Louth 1-12

    Other results

Cavan 1-13 Fermanagh 2-14 (Cavan finish 3rd in the table)

    Donegal 1-18 Meath 1-10 (Meath 5th place)

Cork 2-16 Armagh 2-16 (4th place finish for Cork)

0/7 for Kildare, you'd wonder what the problem is there

  • Registered Users Posts: 538 ✭✭✭BaywatchHQ

Kildare will have to give Rory Gallagher a call.

Must be the first time in a few years with so little to decide going into the last round of matches .

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,723 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

i really like peter canavan , hes a top class judge of the game and rte did well to pick him up before bbc got him , but his argument last week i don't agree of the top team wins and no final , for most of the division 1 teams these are the most competitive games these teams will get until the group stage or even the 1/4 final stage of the championship

i would argue that the we should have a semi final and final in division 1 , the integrity of the competition if fine its the provincials that are in question , even the ulster is top heavy this year with donegal ,derry, tyrone, cavan and monaghan on the one side of the draw

i would actually like to see the top 4 teams play a semi final and then a league final in division 1 as its the best football competition bar the all ireland series ,

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,221 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

Definitely something wrong, having seen a lot of them over the years it is not that they don't have the players. If you put a lot of them into a Dublin set up they would really blossom IMO. I think it is mentality and mindset is Kildare's issue. They have zero expectations for anything in that county.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,723 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

they dont have the players , we threw it away against them in a league game in ennis last year and they stayed up on head to head as a result , by right they should have gone down last year , deckchairs on the titanic at the moment

  • Registered Users Posts: 20,498 ✭✭✭✭dxhound2005

There is a lot to be decided. I would not trust anyone who claims to remember all the permutations from previous years.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,320 ✭✭✭robbiezero

    Decent performance from Kerry here.

They have fairly obliterated Galway from 15 mins into the game. Impressive press on their kickout and winning most of the long ball.

Joe O Connor and Killian Spillane very good which will please them.

As I speak a mistake from Gavin White gifts Galway a goal.

  • Registered Users Posts: 20,498 ✭✭✭✭dxhound2005

That's how it worked out, the head to head gives Leitrim promotion. The League Table on the RTE site is showing Wexford in second, but that would be based on scoring difference.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,018 ✭✭✭✭castletownman

    Fecking scandalous.

It's 100% the turning point of the campaign too- Wexford responded with four picture-perfect wins, three in succession by double-scores which I don't recall us ever doing (even if the standard of the opposition wouldn't have been fantastic).

I mean, we should be in good fettle ahead of the derby vs. Carlow in a fortnight, but there is definitely an under-current of frustration that one of our main goals for the year was denied by a phantom decision.

  • Registered Users Posts: 20,498 ✭✭✭✭dxhound2005

It wouldn't have mattered if Laois had drawn with or beaten Leitrim in Portlaoise. Letrim won with an injury time point. That was a big shock, and Laois hit the post from a scoreable free which was the last kick of the game. The commentator on Shannonside Radio appealed on air to St Patrick to do something for Leitrim, using his snake banishing powers. And it worked.

Div 1 as expected it's a Dublin v Derry final. Tyrone allowing themselves to get beat in than manner isn't good and weren't overly convincing in this league. Bad way for Roscommon to end their league campaign and not good for championship confidence. Was listening to the radio coverage while watching Kerry v Galway. it 1-8 to 1-8 on 42 mins all to play all to play for and Roscommon having missed a lot of goal chances doesn't make any sense why Derry went on to outscore Roscommon for the rest of the contest 1-11 to 0-1.

The draw for Galway in Hyde Park has proved to be very important and has basically kept them up.

Leitrim earning promotion a surprise, that win away to Laois was a big win and indeed the win against Wexford with a debatable penalty.
