It's a great rise for someone that got in at the bottom but the problem for long term holders like me is that 90% of their value was wiped over a fortnight at the end of December when they held a announced a placing at 10% of the price. Whoever took that up has made a killing so far. I have about 12K in them but my break even point is about 6GBX. Based on the recent good news it should rise more but who knows what can crop up. I've learned the hard way that AIM is a casino full of sharks.

Been burned by an AIM stock before so I feel your pain. It's like the wild west.

Sold about 6% of my Supermicro shares yesterday eve. Got in at $36 per share and sold at $650 per share so happy enough to take some profit, bought (added to) my Crocs stocks with the proceeds. Might do the same again today with another 6%.

Surprised at how far NIO shares have dropped. I was sure they would come good.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,307 ✭✭✭p to the e

The big boys (Tesla and BYD) are dropping prices to grow sales in China and there's a lot more competition now from smaller players. Add to that, China is in a bit of an economic downturn. It may pan out for NIO in the long term but investors are very nervous of the EV market in China at the moment.

Does anyone know why the SMH ETF is not available to trade on Degiro?

That's the US domiciled version of it, as far as I know Irish residents can't trade in it. The Irish domiciled version of it is available if you run a search for VanEck Semiconductor, 6 versions on different exchanges and currency.

I've been burned by NIO big time, considering the sheer growth in other Chinese EV firms it's been extremely disappointing. The rise of BYD especially has crushed companies like NIO. BYD sold 51700 in October in China vs NIO who sold just 4400. A massive gulf.

I guess I made the over simplistic assumption that the EV trend would raise all boats. I'm trying not to make the same mistake when picking AI companies.

I see Buffett sold over 10 million of Apple shares in Q4 2023. Reported price of $192. A small reduction for him, but still worth noting.

Holiday coming up so I'll be cashing in on NVDA today, looks like a strong pre market. Tasty profit but crazy that it has reached such highs.

    Hi Folks,

Any share picks for remainder of Feb?

    Anyone following 3M (MMM)?

    Regards,

I bought some 3m(MMM) recently. Currently at 10x cash flow and a ROIC of 20%, The compensation pay-out (hearing loss) will cost €6billion, which is about a years cash flow. A long term play for me, but with a solid company and a dividend of 6.5% it looks good to me.

    Hood.

Crypto pump in session (we're past the early part now) with the lowest cost of entry for US customers, pivoted to attracting an older crowd (with money and gold) and setting up in the UK (will be interesting to see how they do as Order Flow model is illegal iirc). Rising cost of living means people will gamble more to escape the rat race and Hood is like owning the race track and not a race horse. It's not as good as Coinbase for crypto or IBKR for stonks but its app is easy to use and has Citadel as its evil sugar daddy looking out for it.

Look at that base. The bigger the base the higher in space. I will add on weakness down to 12.5. Will bail if it stays below 12 for too long. See the gap below for areas to add. Green lines are areas to stop adding/sell.

Can see some shakiness in the market after such a big run up the last while.

A big company having poor earnings will rock it for a while.

Valuations looking very high at the moment.

BRK.B is up 35% in the last year.

    MSFT up 60%

    AMZN up 76%

    AMD up 114%

Would AMD be comparable with Nvidia? Don't amd do most of the computer chips in computers now?

What's driving Nvidia currently is the AI chips; if you feel AMD will be able to catch up there then yes but there's a world of difference in types of computer chips and honestly if your understanding is that basic on the drivers I'd not suggest investing in either.

  • Registered Users Posts: 118 ✭✭FaaF

I continuously think I've missed the boat on NVDA and have been repeatedly proven wrong.

In the chips sector, I did sell a cash secured put on ASML on Tuesday at a €780 strike for expiry on March 15th. I took in €780 in premium for that trade (less the negligible €1.10 commission).

It's now looking like I should have just bought the stock instead of selling the options but that doesn't fit in with the strategy of my account outside of my pension.

As I understand it, Nvidia make the fastest performance in AI chips, but AMD also have a an offering that is pretty efficient. Those chips are more cost effective with similar performance and when you consider the amount that will be put into data centers AMD might not be a bad move.

Silly market. Up another 1.5% today.

BRK.B is having a great year. Up 14.5% in just over a month.

It looks so toppy. I'm putting my portfolio into cash tomorrow. Up over 30% in 2 months - If I'd been offered that over three years when I invested back in December I'd have taken their arm off.

Took it 2 weeks to get to the $800, not too bad

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,737 ✭✭✭crushproof

Had a sell order at 800, didnt think it would get there after the drop below 700. Absolutely ridiculous and way over priced IMO.

Pays for my trip to Iceland so I'll take it and cross my fingers it doesn't reach $1000!

There's been a great run in the AI space..... Now it's seems to be a case of squeezing the last few percent out of it before the music stops...... and try not to be the sucker holding the bag

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,737 ✭✭✭crushproof

Anyone on here still invested in Viking Therapeutics? I think they were tipped on here a few years ago. Looks like they've finally come good so well done to those who held! Unfortunately I am one of many who didn't have patience and got out a long time ago. Up 883% in a year.
