Couple of things about Ryan’s column this morning.

    1. he confirms he was here last weekend - not confirmation he was here on Friday of course but it could mean he was
    2. The column is entirely about last weekend - he recently mentioned he wax writing the following weekend’s column on a Monday.

There’s no mention of Joe Duffy for example which is a little strange. He could have written some generic waffle that covered Joe’s departure even if he wrote the column on Monday. Maybe there’s a larger puff piece coming next weekend?

Ryan appeared to be in high spirits at the show retirement afterparty, grinning maniacally and showing off the ring to reporters. I guess it’s the first time he’s had such attention since he used to bring the city centre’s streets to a standstill with children shouting and screaming “look! It’s the Toyman!”…..to think he actually said those things aloud/committed them to print.

Even as a fan of the show I do find these behaviours and the constant need for attention a little gauche.

Mod - warned for breach of forum charter

Will next week's London Diary be about meeting his old friends (work colleagues) in the Duke for his great friend's retirement? Complete with dropping a loads of names.

Who knows? One thing I can see with almost absolute certainty however is everything will be brilliant, he will have been surrounded by beautiful, kind, and gorgeous people, and needless to say, he had the last word.

I see Gareth O’Callaghan is campaigning for RTÉ to take Ryan back, I didn’t know he had a new agent.

Has Gareth forgotten what he has said about Mr. Tubridy?

    https://archive.is/HCgLY#selection-1447.0-1447.360

Tubridy’s radio show is 53 minutes long. He has a dedicated team of six. This week he betrayed his team, his work colleagues, and his listeners and viewers who welcomed him into their homes. You can't have secret financial deals for your own personal gain, and then try to pawn off the blame for not being able to account publicly for them when you get caught.

He allowed greed, and a shocking lack of maturity for someone with his experience and responsibility, to replace sensibility. Should he resume his morning radio show? No, he should not. As Gay Byrne might have said, do that once and you’re history.

MOD: RTs weekly newspaper column, Joe Duffy and Gareth O’Callaghan have nothing whatsoever to do with the radio show Ryan hosts. Keep on topic please. Gossip elsewhere if you like.

Hi, when the new rules came in many posters asked - and had it confirmed by the moderation team - that both the weekly column and his social media postings were in scope for this thread.

If you read back you can see this. I’m currently searching for said posts but here’s one re. social media from the Feedback/New Rules Thread:

    IMG_5522.jpeg

Discussion of Ryan’s Weekend Musings is an established feature of the thread and is discussed every Sunday - more often than not garnering more commentary than any individually day’s posts on his show.

Has this now changed and these are now out of scope?

The Brits will be devastated to lose him after he's become so prominent in their background static.

Anyhow with RTE axing shows he'll need Paddy Power to sponsor a return, although I believe gambling awareness is gaining traction so Ryan might have to find a private station for a slot.

    Can't belive he said this.… 🤦

“I presume you want a picture of the ring?!”.

MOD: Whike discussion of RTs social media posts and paper column is allowed, it should be clarified that using these to launch personalised attacks on him is not allowed. You’ll get a warning for this.

Thank you for confirming it is still in scope.

If your post was aimed at me I feel I must offer a defence. The only thing I can see in my post that could be construed as a personalised attack however would be that I said he was “grinning maniacally”. It is a well established term and not one I have meant in a negative manner. It is in reference to many of the pictures published both in print and online this past weekend. It is not a literal term, I’m not for example suggesting he is a maniac. An online definition:

in a very excited or anxious way, that causes you to be very physically active

It is hardly a stretch to say his facial expression is very excited here:

    image.jpeg

The photo is from the Sunday World. There are many other examples, like this from The Irish Sun:

    image.jpeg

Again, Ryan appears to be quite excited. And why shouldn’t he be?

    Re. the following passage:

I guess it’s the first time he’s had such attention since he used to bring the city centre’s streets to a standstill with children shouting and screaming “look! It’s the Toyman!”…..to think he actually said those things aloud/committed them to print.

The first part is factual - he did say that on his radio show. It’s documented in the old thread. I don’t think my comment that “to think he actually said those things aloud/committed them to print.” could be considered a personalised attack by any rational person. Many posters have commented on Ryan’s apparent lack of self-awareness over the years.

The final sentence is simply a commentary on his behaviour: Even as a fan of the show I do find these behaviours and the constant need for attention a little gauche.

It would be quite the stretch to label this as a personalised attack.

When the new rules came in I and many others asked for clarification on these matters to avoid exactly this type of incident. As I have said more than once - I like the show; that is not to say however either it or the host are perfect and/or immune from criticism.

I’m happy to discuss the above in PM if that’s a preferred avenue?

Ryan complaining he did not do (home) economics at school, so does not know how to wrap presents and pay bills.

Does Rock offer Home Economics as a subject?

All to the sounds of Radio Ga Ga!

No, He was guilting Virgin production staff in to rewrapping a book he bought as a present for Clare. He only mentioned lack of bill payment knowledge in passing.

Emma B on Virgin again. Gone are the days of Vogue Williams it would appear. Virgin have had another round of cost cutting - Leigh Francis gone and replaced by a music jock

So caught a bit of the show this morning and yesterday.

Today he seemed to have slowed his speech down. All about Superman and new v old.

For someone how dislikes criticism he is able to give it, he also mentioned how at an Oasis concert the area for the disabled was invaded by able bodied people. He was quite critical of that, interesting how morals work. Though he did mention the one disabled person in the section didn't take it to seriously.

Just one more thing .... when did they return that car
