I'm sure his new better half has done the prenuptial agreement so as to avoid hard landing.

Was it mentioned on his radio show whether they are planning to live in the same country after the wedding?

MOD NOTE: There are plenty of other places where you can gossip or comment on RTs personal life. This forum is for discussion of radio and in particular his radio show. Any more of this personalised commentary on his private life will result in a warning and a ban. You have been warned.

Ryan sounds in great form this morning. He detailed a busy day yesterday including writing his London Diary - strange that he’d write it yesterday when it’s for this coming Sunday’s paper. Also strange he’s allowed plug this on Virgin Radio but Ryan marches to the beat of his own drum it seems.

RDS as usual all over the place, we just had the Manic Street Preachers and the RDS is showing Westlife. INXS playing now and the RDS is showing Amy Winehouse. 🤷‍♂️

Ryan went to a beautiful and swish hotel in Mayfair for a prestigious event last night for book aficionados. He’s dropped more names in the first few minutes of this show than even professional name droppers could manage in a week, incredible stuff. More book talk later - I for one cannot wait.

Some guffawing for no apparent reason there as Ryan does some of his English accent now.

Macca talk now - it was Paul McCartney’s birthday yesterday and Ryan is playing a touching tribute to his hero in which everything was “beautiful”.

Beatles (well, Ringo’s son) v The Who row now. Guess which side Ryan is on? Wrong audio clip played - the production team really do Ryan no favours. Ryan promised to play the correct clip later and runs for a break.

RDS - last track played was by Pete Doherty, Adele showing. 🤷‍♂️

Now a prolonged period of digital warbling on the feed, followed by a complete breakdown of same.

Ryan was invited to a preview of an unnamed film today but that has been cancelled so he’s going to 28 Years Later instead. I’m not sure that will be his cup of tea tbh but he read a gushing review so I think he’s tee’ed up to like it - if only he was capable of having his own opinions……a couple of things he won’t be able to say about this movie is it’s beautiful or gorgeous. Given the subject matter he might say it’s delicious though.

RDS way off again. And I’m off to a meeting now. Might report back later in the show if I get a chance to listen,.

Genuine question: why are you wasting your time documenting each and every utterance that he makes on his shows? It seems utterly pointless.

This is the Virgin Radio playlist for today (19.06) from 10am to 1pm. Certainty pushing his traditional audience.

The same website says that Q102 we’re playing Westlife at 10.03am. It looks like the standard playlist goes to the RDS while the Virgin playlist actually goes out on air

Now Q102 goes from Build Me Up Buttercup to Weezer at 10am

If that’s aimed at me, I’m not doing what you’ve described.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,432 ✭✭✭Peter Dragon

I have been detailing this for quite some time. It’s not Ryan’s fault of course, but it really doesn’t reflect well on the show/station that they can’t get this (what I assume is a very basic thing) right. Some posters suggested Ryan reads this thread recently (which I doubt btw), but if he is reading it Ryan could you have a word with whoever is responsible for this and ask them to fix it? Thank you.

as Ireland’s greatest living broadcaster, he shouldn’t be working for such as Mickey Mouse outfit

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,432 ✭✭✭Peter Dragon

I wouldn’t say he’s our greatest living broadcaster but I do feel he’s somewhat of a square peg in a round hole in his current home.

you have alot of time on your hands Peter?

    did you retire or something?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,432 ✭✭✭RoTelly

It doesn't take much to comment on a radio show, if you have it on in the background, I wouldn't think.

How are you finding the new show a year and a half on? Do you think they've got the best out of Tubridy on this show?

Retirement is quite some time away yet, but thanks for asking what I’m confident was a sincere question.

I’ve explained more than once (i.e. every time this question pops up - with alarming frequency curiously - hmmm) that I usually start my mornings with meetings from 9-10ish (which is why I can rarely if ever listen to Oliver Callan), then retreat to my office where I listen to Ryan in the background whilst catching up on emails etc. I generally only catch the first 30mins or so of the show as the timing of most of my comments would indicate.

It takes seconds, sometimes a minute or two to compose a post. It’s not a lot of time at all.

This used to happen with alarming frequency on the RTE Tubridy thread. If someone posted about e.g. 50 posts from the same person in an hour, they would get a barrage of "What do You think about him, have you any comment on how good or bad he is." I don't listen to his programme, but I take an interest in this thread and others on the Forum. I think that is normal.

Mod - @rightmove, other posters are not the topic so please stop making it about them.

Everyone else - why anyone listens to the show or comments here is their business.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,432 ✭✭✭RoTelly

Why question why someone else is posting? I listen on occasion just to see if anything has changed.

From listening this morning not much has changed.

Interview with the creator of Horrible Histories, and his new book, Ireland and Ireland and Ireland features, do Scottish presenters do this.

Shane and his brother are in London for the Weekend, Irish one living in London the other visiting.

He is so clippy and all over the place, and then into a song. Someone in Ireland is going to Nashville, you have to do this and wasn't it great Rob Rinder interview (his podcas)….picked up the book.

I don't really know how UK audience would keep up with this. Is he trying to cram in as much as possible?

But I'd like to hear a positive review from anyone, particularly I'd be interested in the UK based listeners and their views (positive or negative).

”50 posts from the same person in an hour”?

I doubt I’m alone in saying that never happened - but I am open to correction if you have evidence to the contrary?

Considering your stance on the factual presentation of numerical frequency on guests on the BO’C show it is quite a bizarre statement to make.

I be surprised if there were many weeks when the old or this Tubridy Thread had 50 posts in a week, let alone an hour by the same poster as you suggest.

Mod - please see the mod note a few posts up, if anyone continues this they'll get a holiday from the forum.

Does anyone know if today’s show was pre-recorded? I was just speaking to a colleague who swears she saw Ryan this morning (in Ireland) when the show was on air.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,975 ✭✭✭GSF

well they left the usual technical errors in the show to make sure people didn’t suss that it was pre recorded
